Part 42

When Jenny finds out her younger brother's son is suddenly an orphan, with no one to help him, she knows she's going to have to help out. The problem is that the boy needs a LOT more help than Jenny can provide.

Note: This is an updated version to correct a continuity issue with this story, The Sub, and Dear Jenny. The updates are minor, reflecting Melinda's presence in Jenny's life (although she is absent at the moment on a fellowship in Europe).

CHAPTER 6

I turned to see Marshal Slago standing about 5 meters down the alley holding a smoking gun. I looked at him a few seconds and then smiled.

“Well, hello marshal. Can I help you?”

He got a shocked then horrified look on his face.

“Who are you?”

Looking at myself I wanted to shout every expletive I knew. I tried to remember sentences and fragments of old English, but I couldn’t, only reinforcing my unfortunate predicament. It literally was all foreign to me. I’m guessing that anything I’ve learned from a later life can’t be remembered in this one. As in fact, the only thing I could remember was that I was a man.
