Vaginal Fantasy

This Sunday, October 4th, Felicia Day and friends will be discussing 'Rosemary and Rue', the first book in Seanan McGuire's October Daye urban fantasy series. Vaginal Fantasy is a 'romance book club', which meets once a month to discuss a book. Strictly speaking, 'Rosemary and Rue' and the series as a whole doesn't fall into the romance genre, but there is romance involved, sandwiched between the bloodshed. It should be a good time, though be warned, there may be spoilers.

For your entertainment

In my never-ending quest to find things cool and awesome, I have discovered an amazing artist. If you're already familiar with her, yay! If not...

Her name is SJ Tucker, and her style is ... difficult to describe. Mythpunk, folk-rock, neopagan blues might be a good start, but she really defies category. The important thing is this: she is amazingly talented.

It's been a bad day

To start with, my back hurts, and it's been this way for two weeks now, ever since I pulled a muscle during a not particularly violent sneeze. I've been applying a heating pad to it and that's been helping a lot, but it's still limiting how much I can do, and how long I can sit at the computer to write.

Just playing around

I got my DAZ Studio stuff loaded onto my new computer and decided to give it a spin. The scene is from an upcoming series, Shadows of Eden. The protagonist, Lilith Alexander, is an adult, but here she has been regressed to the age of nine by the Queen of the Pixies, so she can experience being a little girl. Get ready for a Little Chill

Researchers at Great Britain's Northumbria University believe they have discovered some information about the sun, which allows them to predict solar activity with 97% accuracy. According to their research, competing forces in the sun will cancel each other out, resulting in lower solar activity that will cause a mini ice age starting in 2030. You folks up north better start stocking up on firewood and canned goods!

Incredibly amazing news!

For several years I have been limping along with a desktop computer that is now 13 years old. That will soon no longer be true. Thanks to the incredible generosity of a fan of my writing, a two year old laptop is on its way to me! I am simply blown away by this act of kindness. It's the kind of thing that makes you realize that, even with all the bad out there, the human race isn't a lost cause. We have a truly amazing family here, and I'm going to try my best, each and every day, to be worthy of it.

Hugs and love to all!

It's been a while...

It's been a while, but I have just posted a story. Journey to Eden isn't new, it was posted on Stardust eight years ago as part of a contest, but I never got around to putting it here. That omission has been rectified, and hopefully there are some out there who haven't read it.

Enjoy!

My dear Big Closet family

It is my happy duty to inform you that the author known as Scott Ramsey is no more. He has been replaced, by me!

As I've been telling everyone who will listen tonight, this online community is the only place I will ever be me, so it's just plain silly to not have MY name on my stories. I hope you all are as happy for me as I am. I feel ... reborn. Maybe it's silly, but hey, I'll take it!

A plea to all for JulieO

I have just exchanged emails with my friend, Itinerant, and we are both very concerned. As many of you are probably aware, it has been over a year since Julie O last posted a story. I can't claim that Julie and I are friends, but we did share an editor in AmeliaR, we have exchanged numerous emails, and she graciously gave me permission to set a story within the Julieverse. She has always responded to my emails promptly in the past, but that hasn't been the case for almost a year. Itinerant informed me that their last contact was May of last year, when Julie sent a new story for editing.

And I'm back

And I'm back. I've been away a VERY long time, and I apologize for that. All I can say is that it is due to computer problems (as in the lack of internet for a LOOONG time) and a need to deal with personal issues. For those who may have tried to contact me, my email is the same, [email protected] (thank God they kept it active.)

Chat happens...

... and it's happening tonight from 8 to midnight EST! Okay, it happens at other times too, but that's the target time for this effort to raise awareness of the chatrooms, so come on in and chat with us! You can use the link in the banner up top to connect through your browser, or copy the information there to your favorite irc client. If you have any questions or problems, send me a PM and I'll do my best to help.

Let's chat ... again!

We had a very good, active turnout for chat last night, so let's do it again! No topic is off limits, just remember Rule #1 -- be nice. Use the chatrooms link in the top banner; from there you can connect directly through your browser, or use the information provided to configure your choice of IRC client. #MainRoom and #GabyZone are where most of the people hang out; if it's quiet when you come in just say 'Hey, Breanna!' to get the attention of the hostess. If you have any questions, please PM me and I'll do my best to answer them.

Let's Chat

I'm launching an effort to get the chat rooms active once more for the new year. If you're interested in chatting, just use the link at the top of the main page and come in to #MainRoom, #GabyZone, or both if you like, and say hello to my chat alter ego, Breanna. I'll be there for certain between 8PM and Midnight EST, now through the end of January, and probably at other times as well. Just be certain to say my name, Breanna, when you come in so I'll get an alert that you're talking to me, and I'll be happy to talk about anything you like.

The dragons are keening

I just saw this on FM, and felt it should be passed along. Anne McCaffrey, author of the Dragonriders of Pern novels, as well as many, many more, has gone between. She passed away at her home, Dragonhold, in County Wicklow, Ireland, on November 21st, after suffering a stroke. That's pretty much all I can say right now, I'm having trouble seeing through the tears.

Battered, but back

Back in April I had the chance to spend a week at my friends' condo at the beach. They had planned on going for Spring Break as usual, but something came up and they had to change their plans, so they told me to go and enjoy myself, which I did. Then the Monday after I got back I went out for a jog, and woke up the next day in the hospital.

Waxing Metaphorical

I have a friend who is an English teacher, and she gets these little gems from time to time. This one is from a few years back but I recently found it and thought I post it here for giggles. This is a collection of analogies and metaphors submitted by high school English teachers from around the US and taken from essays turned in by actual students.

1. Her face was a perfect oval, like a circle that had its two sides gently compressed by a Thigh Master.

2. His thoughts tumbled in his head, making and breaking alliances like underpants in a dryer without Cling Free.

The Prodigal - What came before

Thanks to the recent refreshing of The Prodigal, the story received many new hits and comments, and that has caused me to consider writing a prequel. Keeping in mind that this is likely to be a rather dark and violent tale, would anyone be interested in such a thing? I will probably go through with it anyway, but I'm interested in knowing the interest level.

Also, look for something featuring Bree in the next few hours. I've just finished a short piece for the Transgender Day of Remembrance and I'll be posting it soon.

Day of Remembrance

As I'm sure everyone is aware, Friday, November 20th is the Transgender Day of Remembrance. The TSSD Chat room is open and if you want to drop by between the hours of 6PM and Midnight Eastern Time, I can promise you there will be someone there. There's no format planned, but please if you can drop in and say hello. The link to the chat room can be found at the top of the front page here and at Stardust.

With enemies like these

Last year I was very proud when the city of Gainesville approved an ordinance that allows transgender persons to use the public restroom of the gender they identify with. Of course this measure was immediately and quite vehemently attacked, and a petition drive was launched to amend it, ostensibly to prevent men from entering a ladies room and then claim they were transgender if they got caught, despite the fact that the law already has a provision to deal with this.

Obsessive ... Me?

Sometimes I do get carried away; I get involved in something and I focus on it and just zone everything else out. It can be a good thing, especially when you have something that needs to get done.

So I've been writing, a lot, and as I sit here at 6:30 AM on Wednesday I realize I have been up since about 4:00 PM ...

Where Have All the Flowers Gone?

Mary Travers, of Peter, Paul and Mary, passed away on Wednesday after a long battle with leukemia. Bob Dylan wrote 'Blowin' in the Wind', but it was Mary's powerful voice accompanied by the harmonies of Peter and Paul that made it an anthem for a generation. She will be missed.

and Christmas Special!

It's Christmas time, and the holiday season is bittersweet for Paul and Debbie Noland. Seven years ago their son disappeared without a trace, and they found their faith shaken to its very core. Christmas is the Season of Miracles, however, and when a young woman named Breegan comes into their lives they find joy, celebration and a miracle of their very own.

Good night, sweet Angel

It seems a day for sad news. Farrah Fawcett has died of cancer at the age of 62. How I loved her in my teen years; of course I didn't want to be with her, I wanted to be her -- but I'm sure there are others here who can sympathize with that. I think Charlie might say something like this; "Spread your wings and fly, Angel, fly! You soar in the heavens now, forever young and beautiful."

Snippet

I've posted a snippet of my latest project, Forged In Fire, at my TGLibrary site. This is a military sci fi story very heavily influenced by the works of David Weber, so if you like that kind of thing please give it a peek. Be aware that this genre includes violence, explosions and even harsh language!

Oh, and this is a totally raw draft, so please, there is no need to point out the typos. I will get to the proofing in time, but right now I'm primarily interested in overall impressions. On my site you can also find some background material about the story setting.

Luna by Julie Anne Peters

Well, all the hoopla about Amazon has accomplished something positive for me, at least. I found a great book that I'd like to recommend (I didn't buy it from Amazon - I downloaded it as an ebook from Fictionwise). It's entitled Luna, by Julie Anne Peters, and it was simply outstanding.

A Hearfelt Thank You

Thank you so much to everyone who came out for the Day of Remembrance gathering at the Nova Party Line. I can only speak for myself, but I found the evening very poignant; there was sadness to be sure, but there was also inspiration and hope. We had a good turnout and some very good discussions, and even though we were 'preaching to the choir', I think we all gained something from it.

As I said to everyone as the night drew to a close, here's hoping for the day when no one will come out for an event like this, because we won't have any names to add to the list.

Hugs to all
