Mary Travers, of Peter, Paul and Mary, passed away on Wednesday after a long battle with leukemia. Bob Dylan wrote 'Blowin' in the Wind', but it was Mary's powerful voice accompanied by the harmonies of Peter and Paul that made it an anthem for a generation. She will be missed.

Aural Images

An incredible voice singing incredible songs that painted unforgetable images in your mind. Like others in that time and space, we will not see their like again. New generations will spur new voices, new images. But what has passed before is gone.

I went outside once. The graphics weren' that great.

All is not lost.

Every genre has its icons and Peter, Paul and Mary certainly defined theirs. Their music spoke of hard things, but included the gentle too. it had a wisdom of ages-old truth, but often it also spoke of the gentleness in life too. The beauty of their art was such that a child could understand it at face value, but a mature individual could almost always find a greater depth behind the words.

I do remember one notable exception, Peter and Paul were being interviewed on NPR one morning and the subject of the lyrics to "Puff the Magic Dragon" came up. They both laughed over the fact that they had just written a simple song of growing up and childhood innocence lost, and it had been co-opted somehow into a promotion for marijuana smoking. I think it was Paul that laughingly suggested that maybe they should have named the dragon Jeff instead of Puff.

Thanks to modern technology their music and voices may just live forever. I hope so.

Leukemia

can be very scary. For many people, it starts with an elevation in white blood count - that is passed off as (oh you had a cold recently). For MOST, it is silent for many years. For some, it is very aggressive. For some, a bone marrow transplant gives them more time... But, finding a match for that procedure is far from easy... And, the procedure itself is far from safe.

Yes, Mary will be missed. By her family and friends, I'm sure, even more than by us, her many fans.

I'll miss her

I dug out a couple of old LPs... I'll miss her, just knowing she's gone.

R.I.P. Sweet voice of my youth.

I always had a kind of crush on Mary, for her sweet, sweet voice, and her great personality. I had the chance to meet the three troubadours at one of their live concerts and Mary and the guys were as gracious and pleasant as they come across in interviews.

Mary will be missed, by her friends family, and fans, but her voice will live on to inspire all who hear their harmonies and understand their messages.

God has gained yet another angel for the heavenly choir, and we have lost an icon.

Rest in peace, Mary. You will never be forgotten.

in sorrow, yet rejoicing in her life,

As a T-woman, I do have a Y chromosome... it's just in cursive, pink script. Y_0.jpg

Mary Travers will definitely be missed.

But her voice will live on in all the recordings she did with Peter and Paul.

"I'm leaving on a pair of wings, don't know when I'll be back again." Is what she is singing now.

I will be listening to their songs as they are some of my most favorites. She will be missed.

"With confidence and forbearance, we will have the strength to move forward."
