I spent a fair while about two weeks ago looking through websites to see if there were any fairs taking place in the US around Christmas time.

There were none, the latest I could find all ended around mid-November, so this story and the people and some places in it are pure fiction.

I suppose it must be Christmas - my Facebook feed was filled with trees, Santas and such trappings, masses of frosted cookies, reindeer with red noses and Donald Trump in various compromising yuletide positions. As if we didn't get enough pictures of him all the rest of the year… (Could he really do that with eight not-so-tiny reindeer?)

I had been able to be Kai this evening. I did it to show off what Helen had done with my wig. And it had been fun being Kai again. My dad had started an interesting discussion, which at first had me worried as to his acceptance of my feminine spirit, but it showed me how he thinks and that he has accepted it. But for some reason in being Kai, I had felt a little uncomfortable. A little out of place.

Deborah is an anxious workaholic with social issues and an apparent softer side, a responsible up-and-coming professional who has just had surgery. A serendipitous encounter on the subway system brings these two women briefly into each other's orbit, where they leave powerful impressions on each other and reveal vulnerable aspects of themselves through their differences, without fully realizing all that they have in common.

“No. I’m a special constable. Just on my way to work.”

It was the bottom of the last inning, the score was tied, and Bill was up to bat with the bases loaded and two outs. The pitcher watched him dig in at the plate. I eyed the sandwich, my mouth watering. I hadn’t eaten for nearly twenty hours and I was really hungry. Scare the shit out of me, then give me food? Well… “Even if I don’t tell you anything, can I still have the sandwich?” A stupid question. A really, really stupid question.
