Two figures crept down a narrow underground passageway, shoes slipping across shallow puddles lining the curved concrete floor. Their coats, one jet black and the other a lighter brown, flickered in the weak light offered only by a white crystal held forward by the taller and much darker-skinned man.

“They didn’t provide a map, Callas. I told you the same instructions they told me, and your memory is as perfect as mine. If you think we’ve misapplied the sequence, you should’ve spoken up.”

This isn’t like the parts we passed through The Fringes, no this is Freaktown this is packed, really packed and my god.

If the humans above had any real idea, there’d likely be so much a panic it’d lead to war. I hear such a mix of languages here too.

And I spot members of the big three alien races down here too which isn’t surprising as they have made it clear they’re watching this whole thing unfold. More to think about really.

We’re heading into one of these tower buildings one of the largest within eyesight and its castle like a big square keep and there’s another square and another until just about ten feet from the ceiling. But the place is built from black spray painted riveted metal and has something familiar to it…box cars; it’s made out of box cars.

“This is?” I’m looking it over.

Shepherd walks beside me. “Welcome to Grand Central Station, home of The Underground Railroad.”

“It can’t be fine, honey. Not when you have to live here instead of at home.”

“This is my home, Aunt Lina.” The girl sighed; the love she received was healing in so many ways, but Lina’s love could only compensate so much for the betrayal by her father.

“I know, but I’m really a poor substitute for your real family. I’m at least glad that Carlo and Danny haven’t turned their backs on you.”

“They’ve given up so much themselves. Danny would probably be in ministry right now if the church hadn’t shoved him out the door…. It’s all my fault.” Susan put her head down on her arms on the table and began to cry.

“Now, none of that. That’s your father talking! Danny is his own man even if he just turned eighteen. And who’s to say what’s right for him? He’s very happy where he landed, and since he’s an adult now, he’ll be able to plot his own course. The church he attends understands what all of you kids have gone through. I wish you could find a place where you feel like you belong.”

And there’s all these people together either dating or married and stuff and I’m kind of feeling left out seeing how happy everyone is and everything together.

“Not that I’d have an idea of how to really be with anyone or anything even if I met someone.”

Yes…yes I’m talking to myself because you do that when you’re alone so much.

Alone, in a new life and way different body and things it’s still the same…hurt and lonely and that makes me feel all fat and ugly and what’s the point and that’s when it hits me.

I get my car and drive around after using my debit card to pay for the stuff at the beach and tip the valet guy five dollars. I’m driving and really trying to not go into a drive thru and just…It’s like this hurt that kind of sinks into that craving rush you get when you ear something good.

That something you like’s rush is what you use to replace the empty spot inside that I’m trying to fill.

I know all of this and yet.

Archetypes chapter 1

Now we get to why chapter 6 of my other tale was a bit late. I debated over how to do this, and finally decided this was the best way. Surprise!

Now to the serious part. I've no idea how it works for other writers (though I have my suspicions) but for me...I hear voices; my muse brings them to me, and they yell in my ear. Min's voice was the most insistent to start with, finally leading me to actually post/publish a story for the first time in years...but min isn't the only voice my muse brings to me. Now that Min has quieted down a little, I can hear the other voices my muse is tormenting me with.

The next most insistent voices are, another Whateley academy story, and this; what I call the ballad of Fu. The other Whateley story I hesitate to even start, as it's dark. Way too dark. So dark it makes a black hole look as bright as the sun dark. I might eventually write it but...dark. Yeah.

So that brings us to this. I thought to myself, if every other writer here has their own universe(it seems), why can't I? So sit back, relax, drink a beer, and enjoy. (note, I am not much for front side exposition in a story, so if you ask what's different about this universe compared to ours, you'll get your answers, just not immediately.)
