2012 April Fools and Other Wise Contest

It's another contest! The 2012 April Fools and Other Wise Contest will be open for submissions from 1 April, 2012, 12:01 A.M. until 5 May, 2012, 11:59 P.M. PDT.

Submissions should be original stories or stand alone chapters in a series or serial, not posted elsewhere before or during the contest and voting, and should have some transgender content. Length is arbitrary but should probably not be much over 10,000 words because we want people to have enough time to read all the entries if they want to.

the god of work

We had a lottery pool at work, to take a crack at the half-billion-dollar prize last night,
but oh well! We didn't win. Not even one of the lower-tier prizes.

Work has been a bit absorbing lately, but even so, I've been managing to put some time in each day
at writing. I decided to go back through everything I've written, to tweak it and fix places
that don't work as well as they should. I've gotten through most of my fairy tales, and have spent
many hours on "The Kinglet" -- which still seems to need a lot of help.

Computer problems and Wild Magic

I have two primary computers, both desaktops, a fairly new E-machine and a custom built unit. For some reason they both simply shut down, and will not restart. I'm no computer expert, but fortunately I recently bought an older Gateway laptop on e-bay.

It's no super machine, but at least I'm online. Unfortunately, all my story notes are on my desktop. I'm still working on it-Luckily I was working on an outline for the next chapter while I waited for my kids, so that's on paper. I'll have a chapter up soon.

Today? Uhhhh...maybe?

"Pretty Face"

A friend at work has shown me this Japanese manga called "pretty face", which about a young boy who after getting badly burned in an accident wakes up to find they have repaired his face to resemble the picture in his pocket - only the picture was that of the girl he has a crush on. As the story progresses, he cant get his own family to believe he's really him, but the girl's family believe he is the girl's long-lost twin sister, and take him to their home. Its really interesting, if you like manga, that is.

Dad

I transitioned when I was in college, nine years ago. At that time, as is traditional in the culture of my country, I still lived with my parents in a big, extended family. My father did not like my transition, to the point that when we argued he would lose his temper and kick or punch me. My mother defended me and asked me not to runaway, so I didn't, despite my depression and anger. I had to tone done the way I dressed, wear a jacket or sneak out and not let him see me.

Reader Tags Revisited

Not a lot of enthusiasm for this here at BC, so the consensus among our admins is also no. At least, not for BC. We have two other sites we are attempting to bring up within the next six months that reader tags might be just the thing.

However, this discussion gave us some parameters for this:

1. It would be opt-in for authors whether they allowed any of their stories to use user tags. Default, no user tags. And a switch where authors could turn off user tags for one or all of their stories.

Hoop Jumping an compliance for the letter"F"

Wednesday the 28th of March, I went to the Privacy Officer at the VA hospital where I am treated. I went in to ask about the directive I mentioned in another blog.
I was handed a form written by the VA that requires a Doctor who has treated a transgender individual.
I took the form to the endocrinologist who has been treating me today to ask him to fill out the form.
He did so after reading the directive 2011-024 and the new policy for changing gender on the electronic medical record.

Reader Tags?

What do you all think of allowing readers to write tags to stories? This would be an opt-in for authors to allow or not and readers would have to spend buttons to be able to write tags, maybe. I'm just thinking out loud sort of but I found a neat module someone has already written. We'd also need a couple of three "tagerators" to keep the new tags coherent and appropriate. Perhaps authors could moderate tags on their own stories?

There are times when I question this strange thing I am, because in all honesty, it doesnt seem to make a lot of sense to me. I mean, intersex people, that kinda makes sense, and you can get tests done and know you belong to that category. But me, my fem side is literally only in my head, and short of an autopsy when I die, there isnt any way to be 100 % sure I 'm not just crazy.,

Hoping to post Chapter 8 of Reckoning

by Saturday, Sunday at the latest. I've had a computer failure of my MacBook which required taking it to the repair place for surgery. Apparently we experienced a power surge which attacked the inverter, which is in the hinge where it opens, and also burned out the LCD, which lights the screen.

Approximately 200 dollars or so later, I might have it back by Friday. I've been using my old desktop, which I fortunately never got around to taking down and storing away. ALL the relevant info I need to post the story is, of course, on the Mac.

040) Was that a guy?

I know, it's been a while since I blogged last... Honestly, my life's gotten pretty boring of late. It's the same story day after day, I go to work, eat, play some games, read some stuff on BCTS, occasionally try to write my stories that I'm really horrible about updating... And I'm getting absolutely no where with my transition goals. I'm not getting any closer to being able to afford health insurance (that covers transition), and my family and close associates still insist this is just some "phase" at best. At worst, they're like my mom and are refusing to believe it's happening at all.

A tough day with my daughter

Well, today was a tough day with my daughter. We took her and her two friends to West Edmonton Mall, played glow-in-the-dark mini-golf, and went skating at the ice rink. Sounds like fun, right? Well, not really, because the boys noticed I was wearing a woman's shirt, and so that became an awkward topic for conversation. Plus, I'm worried like heck about a friend of mine who is really struggling and has even talked about suicide.

Sigh.

It gets better, right?

It's almost the end of March and we've had a bit more expenses this month than usual, including me personally who has just spent close to $500 bucks on unexpected private expense (including $225 for plumbing repairs). So if you haven't joined the Hatbox yet, now would be a good time. There will be some new content for the Hatbox going up soon, too.

Computer issues, BCTS, and viruses

We all have them. Lately I've been getting lag. I usually do a scan about once a month, more if I need it.

Having had a sex starved teen I have had the chance to get lots of experience fixing various problems. After a while I made him fix his various problems, and kept him off my machine. Anyone who has a kid knows how well that works, they usually do what they want to, and deal with the consequences later.

Mine learned quite early I could access the cache through the house network. It saved me a lot of issues, though I don't think he was impressed.

Hi all, I've decided upon dropping the entire sci-fi and magical transformation in my latest series of stories I've been writing. I've re-worked several characters and, of course, the plot into a new story. This new story, still untitled as of yet, will be a real world transgender and coming of age story in the style of Becoming Robin and Sarah Carerra (two of my favorite series' on this site), yet this story will be told from a third person perspective (unlike Robin and Sarah).

The Grief list

I've been thinking about what the counselor said to me about having some kind of mourning ritual for the things of my past. Obviously, I couldnt do all of them in one go, so the first thing I would need to do is try and separate them out so I can tackle them one at at time. With that in mind, I've created a little grief list, and here it is, in chronological order:

1: my father's death. How do I say goodbye to someone I knew more by their absence than their presence ?

Hi everyone.
In Berlin a transphobic court has admited the transgendered girl Alex into a mental institute. Apparently there was a custody battle between father and mother and the father used the youth office to seperate the transgendered kid from her mother, since the mother "induced" transsexuality. A youth worker decided that the transsexuality had been "induced", after talking to the kid for about an hour. In the process neither the child, nor her doctors nor independend experts were heard.

Reading the above article has kind of got me curious about Amazon self-publishing. Word of mouth advertising in this day and age is actually pretty huge. There's a #1 bestseller, the name of which I've completely forgotten now (It was referred to as "Twilight for Moms" in a recent news article :-P) that was huge with eReaders, IIRC. So, yeah. I'm thinking about using this to publish Book one of Becoming Robin.

At my counseling session today, my counselor suggested I find a way to process all the grief I went through as a kid by having some kind of mourning ritual. The death of my father, the loss of my innocence, the "burying" of my girl self, all need to be grieved over. I'm not sure what form this should take, but it sounds like a good idea.

A question for those who remember The San Francisco bay area

I recall as a kid (70's and 80's), when my Mom would go to Letterman Army hospital in San Francisco, we would go one of two ways to get to the city. First was to go to Livermore and stay with the people who are the inspiration for Shelly and Frank in my Through the years books, which put us on I580 to the Bay Bridge. But the other way was to get to I80 in Sacramento and take that to the Bay Bridge. What I want to know is did any of you ever go that way an recall seeing little wooden cutout sitting on sticks in the bay near Berkeley? I want to say it was near Berkeley, but it was in that area.

In the Lake States Muslims have formed bazaars and their influence help make the country into the merchant based society they are today.

At the border though, in Toledo, many Muslims have to hide the fact. While at home they practice their religion in secret, many have to go so far as to "Anglicize" their names in order to get by on the Confederate ran streets.

I'm asking this here, because I've cruised the Crystal Hall forums and found lots of contradicting recommendations from fans and don't recall ever really seeing an official response. So, here goes:

What IS the recommended reading order for the Whateley Academy stories?

I could always go strictly by posting date, but that seems inefficient and ends up with having to backtrack a lot as character's stories are started at the beginning of the year chronologically but much later as far as when they were written.

How much does your femininity (or masculinity) affect how you behave in your life.

I still have a lot to think about, but I think if it has to be sugar coated to avoid offending someone, then it is not worth the effort. It will include it all both smelly and fragrant.

Given a choice between the two, it would depend on which I'd had the most recent satisfying sex with as to which I would desire more at the moment. I'd probably like to share both more than have to pick one and only one.

Fighting fire with gowns?

http://jalopnik.com/5895012/firefighters-in-drag-hitch-up-sk...

At a recent St. Patrick's Day parade a fire broke out, fortunately the volunteer fire department was on the scene, unfortunately they weren't dressed for the fire. That didn't stop them.

Progress, but some tough moments too

I've noticed that as my body slowly feminizes, I'm getting better in terms of dealing with self-doubt. I feel so much .... lighter now I cant understand why I fought against this for so long. But it hasnt been all sunshine and roses. For example, today I was out walking our dog with my daughter, and had to introduce myself by my male name for my daughter's sake, and I actually choked saying it.

Ah, well.

Job finding frustraitions...

I am soooooo frustrated right now. On April 8th, 2011 my employer of 21 years decided to liquidate the company and me and about 30 other coworkers were basically shown the door. We knew it wouldn't be good when we got word they were 23 million in debt. I'm trying to do the right thing and have sent out countless resume's as well as fill out applications but no one...NO ONE...is calling back. I think in the entire year I have only had 2 interviews...just 2...ugh!

COMDEX COMDEX - Coming to a computer near You! COMDEX COMDEX

I know a LOT of people have been waiting for this for far, far too long. Now that I've got a timetable, and even more, my Muse (or whatever I'm calling inspiration) has decided it's time.

In two weeks I expect to send the next chapter in my Comdex series to the editors. Hopefully, that means in about three to four weeks I'll be posting it.

New Chapter, new chances to tell me things

Well, the new chapter of 300 Rains is up. It is a bit longer than usual, as there were things that had to be covered. Things are certainly moving to conclusion and plot threads are tightening up. All that pretty much remains is NatGeo and the tribe. :) Should be fun.
