Will and Harper

Will Ferrell takes a road trip with a longtime friend who has recently come out as trans.

When I first heard about this movie on Netflix, I cringed.

I visualized a combination of Ron Burgundy and Elf riding across our country with Priscilla, queen of the desert.

What I saw last night was a thoughtful discussion of our shared predicaments.

The documentary presented an elderly transwoman who had suffered greatly for absolutely no reason other than willful ignorance and bigotry.

The Casa Susanna weekends

I might just be the last person to learn about this and I know the place and people have been mentioned on here before.
This morning I found a BBC video about the wonderful past getaway place for crossdressers in the Catskills. I hope those interested can get to this:

Casa Susanna programme 93 minutes, personal stories, many pictures.

Moonstruck by Tosca and Carmen

I remember watching the movie Moonstruck starring Nicholas Cage and Cher in 1987 when it first was released, probably by streaming. It remains a very good movie. And a key part of the plot is when after an over-night fling Ronny (Nicholas Cage) promises to never bother Loretta (Cher) again if she attends a performance of La bohème at the Met with him. Loretta is deeply moved by the opera and eventually breaks up with Johnny (Danny Aiello) and accepts Ronny’s proposal.

Last Night

I watched Love Actually on Netflix. Yes I'd seen it before but it's back at No.8 in the top10 Australian shows, and my memories of it were a bit fuzzy. It is, after all, 20 years old.

What a lovely movie it is, fantastic cast, heartwarming stuff for the season, and some good songs in the soundtrack. Also some poignancy for me, like Alan Rickman, who died fairly recently, playing one of his rare nice roles.

Well worth another watch.

Transgender Actor Yasmin Finney plays a transgender character Dr. Who

I watched the latest Dr. Who. Donna Noble's daughter was called a boy's name by a group of boys on bikes as they rode by. I thought WHAT?

It is cleared up later as you realise she is trans. I watched a program later where Yasmin Finney said it brought back bad memories about being "dead named".

It was a fun episode. Much better than those crap, poorly written ones Jodie Whittaker was forced to do. Mind you, David Tennant is my favorite Dr. Who, with Tom Baker in close second.

Pattison in a skirt?

This surfaced today, there are articles everywhere:

Pattison in a skirt

You may consider my link frivolous but its only one of many that DDG threw up.

I'm not sure that I like this trend. OK it may be comfortable for men to wear but it blurs the lines over something most of us didn't want blurred: we'd rather just be on the other side!

A Purr-fect Reboot

My editor has been working on her own projects (as long as it's on her own time, I don't mind). The latest one she showed me piqued my interest. She's always trying to come up with money-making ideas, that feline.

She thinks the time is right for a radical reboot of Star Trek. When I told her that - fat chance - Paramount owns the rights, she spit up a fur ball and told me she has a distant cousin who is Chat du Maison in Bob Bakish's household (the President & CEO). They use a lot her programming tips, my editor tells me.

Just saw "Avatar: Way Of Water" a few days ago

It wasn't bad but I echo some of the critiques: it defnitely had some bloat and some of the action could have been trimmed. Honestly while the beginning connected the end of the first tailing into the other I don't think it was terrible though it could have been trimmed a bit. I don't want to get into the plot much except Jake now has a family and it really gets into that dynamic.

The Chevalier d'Eon in Dr. Who

There have been some new Dr. Who audio adventures made with David Tennant and Billy Piper.

There are 3 of them. This one features the Chevalier d'Eon. I should think most of us have heard of the Chevalier d'Eon .

Eonism

the adoption by a male of a female role, or vice versa, as in transvestism. Eonism is named for Charles Eon de Beaumont, a French political adventurer who died in 1810 after posing as a woman for many years.

I discovered her story when I first got dialup internet. There are so many versions.

Awesome Action

So, Watched Thor Love & Thunder this weekend. And I truly enjoyed it, regardless of reviews both good and bad.

But there was just One scene that as a creative person was just awesome.

It was like 'Stranger Things' was doing battle with the 'Justice League' during the middle of one of those old iPhone/iPod/Macintosh commercials (the ones where everything is shadow/silhouette except for the headphone cable). Very very well done and fun. I can't wait to try to put it to proper prose for reference for my books! (Not the exact scene. Just the style)

Saw "Nightmare Alley" yesterday.

It wasn't bad and definitely had Del Toro's dark tone but one thing I plan to make clear from the trailer. I am a fan of Del Toro and his dark, Supernatural tone; however, this movie lacks the latter so let me disabuse you of that idea. If you still want to see it even then after the trailer feel free. It remains an interesting movie despite that though I was annoyed, feeling I had been misled by the trailer.

"Please Turn Over"

If you want a laugh (and who does not need one at the moment) then it is worth having a look at an old British Comedy film called "Please Turn Over". It dates from 1959/1960 but is a good yarn. The title refers to the pages of a book that takes a town by storm.

If you can find it then give it a watch. I found it on the Talking Pictures TV channel on FreeSat (UK).

"I Just Became A Girl And I Thought It Was Great"

I've been following the news (and live video) of the new volcano in Iceland. In the course of that, I've taken the chance to poke around RUV's (Iceland's State-Run Television Channel) website for other news stories. Interesting place. I don't speak or read Icelandic, but if you open the web pages in Chrome, there's usually a translate button on the right end of the Location bar (where the URL is) that will get you a somewhat-decipherable English translation. Some words are wildly wrong, but you can't have everything. (Guess!

JDrama "Life as a Girl" (on Youtube)

So, in the course of my rambles about the Internet, I became aware of this

"Life As A Girl" (https://youtu.be/2MDctbl32UE) from 2018, 1 season (only 4 episodes) (I've only seen 2. English subtitled. Said to be on SOME Netflix, although evidently not the North American feed.)

Watching it, I find a bit of a mixed bag.

She is living and working as a female, only interested in female partners. "she wants to becomes a girl, hasn't done any thing about her body 'yet'".

New movies/shows released this year you enjoyed.

Just thought I'd ask here about new movies and shows that released this year all of you enjoyed.
I saw "Wolfwalkers" and definitely enjoyed it though the animation wasn't as polished as I like. The story and heart was there though and reminded me of what Disney use to be in Western animation. You can see it on Apple+.
Also just saw "Promising Young Woman" a smart revenge flick on sexual abuse, the main character who turns the tables on men in pick up spots. Worth a watch.

Actually Squealed Out Loud

So, I finally got around to renting The New Mutants last night. I would have liked to have seen it in the theater, but Covid put the brakes on that idea. However, I have been really looking forward to its release. (Anyone who gets my pen name would understand why.)

I didn't expect to actually squeal out loud (embarrassingly) when Illyana, played perfectly by Anya Taylor-Joy, responded to someone warning her that her opponent was magic by replying "So am I."

Yes, I'm a big, goofy dork. But I just had to share.

XOXO

Found old TG movie

Hi. Last night I signed up for HBO Max. Warner Bro's is releasing all their new movies on there now. After I signed up, I began looking through the tv and film library for items to add to my list. I was very happy to find a movie called Switch. this movie was released in 1991 and was one of my first real sources of TG content. I just thought Id share it with all of you.

Switch (1991)A sexist womanizer is killed by one of his former lovers and then reincarnated as a woman.

‘Lingua Franca’ movie - Aug. 26 Netflix debut; a unique perspective for trans movies.

This movie reflects a unique perspective... take a read.

“Movies about trans characters tend to focus on the gender transition process,” Sandoval said... “I wanted ‘Lingua Franca’ to start where these trans narratives usually end. Her transition is well behind her. That’s where I was really chronicling, in a fictional narrative, my own experiences as a trans woman living in Brooklyn.”

Barney Miller circa 1975

Those of us who are of a certain age will remember the sit com, Barney Miller. It's about the 12th Precinct detectives. I was watching it late last night and the 1975 episode, Vigilante came on. It features an arrest of a cross-dressing teamster, for an "unclassified misdemeanor." We're all used to seeing cross-dressers in comedy being the brunt of the gag. In this case the cross-dresser was treated with respect and the comedy lines were all about the "unclassified misdemeanor" and the others reaction to him.

'Girl' a film by Lukas Dhont

I have just watched a DVD of the film 'Girl' by Lukas Dhont, with a phenomenal performance by Victor Polster as Lara a transsexual teenager who wants to be a ballerina. I found it moving, heart rending and uplifting and occasionally humorous. I don't want to spoil the plot but I do recommend you watch it.

It appears that there has been some controversy about it and using a CIS actor to play the main character, I think he plays it very sympathetically and authentically.

Movies released around the time of CV to pass self-isolation. Recommendations.

As Emma released in theaters around my area a week or two before CV lockdown it hit VOD almost immediately. This was a wonderful Romantic Comedy which I enjoyed thoroughly with Anya Taylor Joy as the title character being a delight. Every other character fell into place almost perfectly, especially Mr.Knightly with a look of scruffy hansomeness which endears one to him. An incredible set design displays a melange of pastels with impeccable colonial houses that are surely aged but look brand new. The costumes present a sumptuous feast for the eyes.

Busy Busy Busy

Hello out there,

I hope you're all doing well this evening.

I haven't really been writing and kind of feel guilty about it. You see I've been working with a group near me and we're making a short film. I wrote the script, am Directing it and am doing the Cinematography.

We have two more days of prep till we start filming and we aren't even making any money for doing it. We are on such a low budget that we need to do a potluck for the cast/crew. I'm going to bring my famous chili which happens to be a vegan chili btw.

"The Queen" a new 4K restoration of the 1967 Drag film

A classic drag documentary film just re-released will be of interest to many of us. Running in 'art' theaters. - “Every one of these contestants before they come out here is a winner,” which “The Queen” makes absolutely clear.

Here's history that effects many... learn and appreciate that which has came before. It will put many things in perspective.

Have you ever felt envy for one or more of your characters? I wouldn't admit it either! It would be easy to do if a character had too good a life.
The reason I ask is I would like to suggest a movie along these likes. The movie is "Simone" (2002), starring Al Pacino. Just about anything I say about it could be a spoiler except: see it!

Well big news if you love car shows, Jeremy Clarkson is leaving "The Grand Tour" which means that show will end. Regardless of if you think he was an ass, to me the onscreen chemistry with his co-star's just worked and to me and many others was magic. I can't imagine who they could find that will be quite as obnoxious yet endearing even if he is a snob.

‘The Wild Boys’ movie - Sexually charged, gender-twisting

An unusual movie

The plot follows a group of lusty teenage boys (played by female actors). They land on a tropical island filled with sensual delights and, partaking of the island’s pleasures, the boys’ bodies start to transform, softening, developing breasts, shedding phalli, which sends them into a terror before they eventually embrace their new forms. ... a rough sea captain (Sam Louwyck) who has a special method for taming their unchecked testosterone.
