The Family Girl #098: Rambling About Dad

The Family Girl #098: Rambling About Dad
      - Bobbie Cabot

I've taken a few days to get back. Things are not yet right for me after my dad died. I think I will never be right. This is my first time to lose family. I don't know if things will ever be like it was again, but Mo said something: why did I expect it to, because it can't - the key is to learn to accept it, and move on. That's not easy, of course. But, nevertheless, one has to. I'm afraid I'm not as strong as others who are able to do that, but, as Mo said, I don't have to do it alone.

For now, it's about putting some distance, and living with it. And also taking joy from our time with our dad. That may take doing since all I can feel at the moment is the loss.

Anyway. This blog is about my dad, and the people I love.

COVID 00 splashpage.png

Hi, everyone. Here's a short primer on the COVID-19 virus, which I hope is helpful. Know that all of the information here is backstopped, and is sourced from factual sources. If you have more information to share, please do share in your own post.

The Family Girl #096: Anniversary Day!

Blog #96: Anniversary Day!
And It Hardly Even Feels Like Ten Years

Exactly, and I do mean exactly, ten years ago, on a Tuesday afternoon, at 2:33PM, I posted my very first story here in the BigCloset (or what I've taken to calling "BCTS"): I posted the first part of a little story I called "Danny." And it is exactly ten years from that time.

Yes, indeed - it's my tenth-year anniversary here in BCTS.

Yayyyy!

Just posted a new chapter

I just posted a new chapter for one of my stories - a relatively long one this time. And though I know it's past 11PM out there, I hope it's not too late.

I've been in the office since 8am, and have been waiting to meet with some contractors. I've been waiting for three hours now, and they're still not here. Anyway, while I waited, I started writing instead of sitting here and stewing. If they don't get here in 20 minutes, I'm gonna be calling their boss. This doesn't bode well for them being hired for the project.

Seeya later!

Hey, guys.

So we're leaving for our trip tonight. In about an hour actually (7am Thursday Eastern over there). But I'll be seeing all of you again Monday evening (or about 9am Monday Eastern over there). Therefore no stories until Monday.

I'll still be logging on from time to time within that period, so I won't be completely out of contact with you guys here in the Bigcloset. Feel free to comment or PM or whatever, and I'll respond as soon as I see 'em.

So. The %^#%$!@#$@%$#^$ higher ups in my company have been quite demanding lately, so we have been doing double-time, even triple-time, trying to finish a *%#$$%%$^^%#@$ status report for them, which is due in 13 hours...

Anywhoo...

Because of this, I didn't have time to finish the latest chapter of Shepherd Moon, and will not be posted tonight. Soweee!

BUT!

The Real Score about Fanfiction and Fair Use

The Real Score about Fanfiction and Fair Use

Hi.

I was reading a blog here in the Big Closet, titled "Fan Fiction." (see https://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/blog-entry/79528/fan-fiction )

I was interested in the topic because I knew something about it because it's part of the work that I do, and I thought I could pick up something that may be useful at work next time I have to deal with the same thing again. And, besides, I have several fanfiction stories here.

Anyway, though I am not a lawyer, I've been fielding questions and issues relating DCMA, derivative works and Fair Use for a while now. So I have a fairly substantial knowledge about it, IMHO.

So I thought I'd share what I know about fanfiction and Fair Use (I know my facts are backstopped, but feel free to verify the things I say here if you want - I won't mind, though I ask that, if you disagree, that we not fight or argue, okay? Let's be civil).
