A classic drag documentary film just re-released will be of interest to many of us. Running in 'art' theaters. - “Every one of these contestants before they come out here is a winner,” which “The Queen” makes absolutely clear.

Here's history that effects many... learn and appreciate that which has came before. It will put many things in perspective.

This documentary is the blueprint for the representation of drag we know today , including “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and its behind-the-scenes companion show, “Untucked.” We witness these shy young men in sweaters drop their guard to become giggling comrades and, ultimately, preening divas over the course of pageant prep. In between rehearsals, they discuss their lives, from facing the draft board, to their small hometowns, with a fascinating frankness.

“Every one of these contestants before they come out here is a winner,” which “The Queen” makes absolutely clear.

Having read some your stories I can see why you like this film, Donna

Because of the era, the styles and the New York setting
THE QUEEN reminds me of books I've read and documentaries I've seen
about Andy Warhol's Factory + the lives of Paul Morrisey, Edie Sedgewick, Ultraviolet
and those TG superstars Holly Woodlawn and Candy Darling- the people Lou Reed
was singing about in Take a Walk on the Wild Side. I'm 15 minutes
into THE QUEEN, and for all their drama these queens seem a lot more
together than the self-destructive lost souls in that drugged-out
circus Warhol surrounded himself with (I could never get all
the way through CHELSEA GIRLS, it's 3+1/4 hours long!
