More thoughts on depicting characters in illustrating stories.

When I painted that, I was thinking YA or PG stories with an emphasis on realistic portrayals of the characters. In 'End of the World' and, I suppose 'Dystopian Novels' I had figured that that female characters (and also the male characters fighting in the resistance) would be wearing cast-off clothing and gear salvaged from the enemy. I thought that clothing them in revealing clothing would not be in their nature.

Great news for Anime lovers today....Right Stuf bought by Crunchyroll(Sony). sarcasm

Obviously you can tell by the title I am NOT happy about this and for multiple reasons. As someone who prefers buying physical for the superior presentation of the product and the fact that Funimation(owned by Sony) is severely OVERCHARGING to draw people to buy the digital product especially when they cut deep sales on Xbox Live(and likely other places). A product that is questionable that you have ANY right to ownership now given how Sony will be removing Studio Canal digital titles from people's purchased library.

Blast from the past...an old painting of mine.

I was just sitting around looking at some photos of some of my old artwork and came across this one. It was done back in May 2005, when I could still hold a paintbrush. It's oil on canvas (25" x 20) and (as far as I know) is residing in a home in eastern Colorado. I titled it, The Meaning of Life, and the "secret" of the painting is the lettering highlighted in yellow inside the equation.

I did not succeed.

An attempt at a review of "The Prince & the Dressmaker"

A few months ago, an item of interest to our community came across my twitter, which is unusual, as my twitter is almost totally devoid of gender related content.

It was the graphic novel, "The Prince & The Dressmaker" by Jen Wang. Published in 2018, it has come up again recently.

This will be a "how it made me feel" review to avoid (most) spoilers.

Set in what I suspect is a fantasy of Paris and Europe in the 1800s,

Rairy Contrary Cover

Hello out there,

I ended up playing around in Canva a little bit and created a couple covers!

The first one is your standard book cover.

The next one is pretty much the same thing but smaller for instagram.

I like how they turned out. I just wanted to share that with you.

Superpowers

Anyone else constantly coming across those poll questions on social media that ask "What would you pick if you could have one superpower?" and finding themselves answering "Shapeshifting"?

And sometimes people will ask why not flight, or super strength, or lightning speed, or telepathy? Like those are the powers you SHOULD want to have.

But to have the ability to change yourself? Everything about yourself physically? That's a dream come true.

Then again, maybe I've just been re-reading too many comics lately.

Images question

I've been working on some artwork for old and new stories, and was wondering if the size/file size restrictions were still in place from the old FAQ post? That's all I could find digging around, so I was curious if anything had been updated on that front. Or if there's a new way to post images. It's not a problem trying to meet those sizes on my end. Again, simply wondering.

Stan Lee has passed away

I'm so sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings again, and I don't know his views on gender issues, but Stan Lee was a great influence on my life and my characters. It so sad to see another of my heroes pass away. I'm sure some of you, like me, lost yourself in comic books with their larger than life heroes that were a little more human than those that came before.
Just thought some of you might like to know the news. He was 95.

I apologise in advance if this is inappropriate. I have no connection to Baen Books except as a long-time satisfied customer.

As somebody mentioned a few weeks ago, a 'Magical Girl' story, previously seen as pre-publication, is in fact now on sale from them:

Price is $8.99. I shall be buying a copy just as soon as I can find my wallet...

Planetary Brigade by Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis

Planetary Brigade by Keith Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis, and various artists is a superhero comic, published in two miniseries in the mid-2000s. It's about a superhero team, mostly a Justice League analogue (there are obvious analogues to Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and Green Arrow, while other characters are not such obvious analogues of DC or Marvel characters). It's mostly funny, with some serious bits. (Giffen and DeMatteis are best known for their comedic run on Justice League International in the 1980s-90s.)

11th Sun Book Cover

Taking a break from the comic book to work on the book cover. It's the scene on Logan's Fun where 11 is getting off the elevator and seeing the inside of the station for the fist time. From the worm eye you can see her in her dress, as she looks at the atrium in the station for the first time.

I'm going for a juxtaposition between the mundane (girl in sun dress) and the fantastic (space station). Should look pretty fucking cool.

R.I.P June Foray.

June Foray, the voice of many cartoon characters including The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show, has passed away at the age of 99, just two months short of her 100th Birthday.

She brought a lot of laughs and fun to a lot of people, adults and kids alike and will truly be missed.

God Bless and keep you, June Foray. You will be missed and thank you for all you gave us.

"An Artist and Her ‘Beautiful Boy’"

"In their intimate portraits, the photographer Lissa Rivera and her partner, BJ Lillis, are building their own fantasy world.

On a long subway ride three years ago, BJ Lillis decided to share something with his friend and co-worker, Lissa Rivera. Mr. Lillis, who describes himself as genderqueer, told her that he had spent most of his college years dressing, full-time, in women’s clothing.

But in the professional world, he’d lost his confidence. To help him regain it, she offered to take his photograph."

The Decision

Imagine you have a case of terminal cancer, and your only hope for survival is an experimental new therapy which will rewrite your genetic code at the molecular level. I'm looking for a few interested tech-heads, game geeks, and dungeon masters! You! Yes, and you too!

For a venture I'd like to try: an LGBT friendly (though, to be clear, by no means strictly LGBT FOCUSED) gaming site.

NEW ANIME SERIES!!

A new anime series start airing today!

Busou Shoujo Machiavellianism

The Private Aichi Symbiosis Academy was originally a high school for high-class girls. When it became co-ed, the girls, out of fear, asked to be permitted to bring weapons to school. When that was enforced, a five-member vigilante corps-like organization called the "Supreme Five Swords" was also formed.

After many generations, the five swords eventually became a group which corrected problematic students, and the academy started proactively accepting such students in order to correct them.
