Well, my weekend has been pretty full so far. First, on Saturday morning at work, I pulled my knee and spent the last hour or so basically doing my job on one leg. Its not hurting now, but its a reminder that one day, and probably sooner than I would like, I'll be either disabled or looking for another job, or both ....

Then Saturday evening I had the dinner for my mom and ex in celebration of Mother's day. Went okay, except having my mom use the male pronoun stung ....

Then I worked last night, and I think it went well. Worked in both the Health and Beauty and Fashion, both interesting departments. and I managed to help out without damaging myself which is always good ...

Well, that's my weekend so far. Happy Mother's day, everybody.

Mom's Pronouns.

What pronouns does mom use if it's just you and her alone? Is it different when the ex and your daughter are around? If so, she has the same concerns that you had about how to dress for the occassion. If so give her a break and ask her why she used the male and not the female.

Wellll... There is this moment...

...when you understand that you're a bit old to do some things that were so easy some 30 years ago :-)
I was kissing in my car couple of weeks ago and we strained our necks at almost the same moment :-) And I said "we are a bit too old to do this in the car" :-) So try to leave physical stuff to younger people and don't strain yourself. You don't need to prove your physical dominance anymore.

Regarding moms and things they say... My mom still can't comprehend that her "baby" is old enough to be a grandparent and understand simple things about life without her guidance :-) So pronouns is quite a minor thing compared to "Do you know that eating fast food is bad for you?" With two hour lecture on benefits of healthy diets following. And when there is absolutely no way to explain that I don't eat in fast food places when there is any way to avoid it.
So don't worry too much. I would be glad to have my mom to treat me like an adult at least once. Then for me there will be a chance to discuss pronouns :-)

Moms and change...

My parents have had a VCR for 20 years, and my mom only learned how to work it (record a show off tv, rewind it, play it, all herself) this last year. Before that she was always calling me to do it. She's very proud of that. Now I just have to teach her how to set up the timer to record a show at a specific time.

She's not a dumb woman. She was a school teacher. But neither of my parents are all that tech-savvy.

I know I'm often a smartass on here, but I'm so not kidding.

And yet with a single word or a look, she can make ME feel five years old again. Go figure.

And I get all those lectures too, and I just sigh and do a lot of "Yes, Mum", "No, Mum."
