Enlightened Speech on Equality

This video has gone viral; so, many of you may have seen it already, but if you haven't, it's something to see. This is Washington State (Republican) Representative Maureen Walsh's heartfelt remarks on ESSB 6239 (same sex marriage in Washington State) during the recent pre-vote debate.

For those of you who don't know, in a previous male only life I was a world class wrestler (not that crap on television but Greco-Roman). In fact I won nationals in college twice (wasn't a Div I school so I don't know if you count that as an accomplishment but I do.) I also wrestled overseas in Central America representing our country. Internationally I am undefeated in Greco Roman Wrestling and hold a 12-1 in Freestyle (I lost to the bronze medalist of the 92 Olympics, he tore me apart).

Klaatu

I was thinking the other day about the band Klaatu. I grew up on their music, and I find I miss it even now. I'm not really sure why it spoke to me the way it did, but somehow, it reached me in a way that few other bands have ever managed. Its too bad they didnt have a bigger following, but maybe that was part of the appeal.

Now there are heaps of you you out there that love serials. Ang's Bike serial is getting to be more like The Archers than simply a long story and I'm sure there are others too.

starting to think about spring

I was thinking about spring yesterday. Right now, with a sweater and a coat on every time I go out, I dont have to worry about the wrong person (ie: my ex) noticing the fact that I'm in ladies clothes. Wont be able to do that once it gets warm, so I'm not sure what I'll do.

Ah, well.

A New Universe?

I'm thinking of starting a new universe which will deal with an alien superintelligence appearing to the people of earth with a doomsday prediction. To combat/stop this event, a team of heroes will be established by him. The powers/abilities he grants each member of the team will be limited to about half what Superman is capable of. This will be a co-operative series of tales and, by that I mean, we will meet regularly to discuss what the heroes do. each writer will have complete autonomy of their hero character, and will determine their actions etc.

Meeting others

I reside in Delaware and am wondering howI can meet others like me with out having to join an online porno site (my idea of what the sites are). I am not looking for a one night stand, I am looking for people to talk to to be able to discuss how I really feel somedays.
I went online and the sites for Delaware are listed but the meeting places no longer exist.
Driving any length of distance outside of Delaware is almost a day trip.
Any one with any ideas?

Last night, I was talking to a co-worker about where I am, and where I hope to be, and it occurred to me that once I have my name change, I'll be as done as I expect to be, since SRS is not a realistic goal. So in one way, I'll never be a full woman.

I've Got It!

There was a recent blog about significant people in ones life having dementia.

My dad died of Alzheimer's at age 72 in '96. There are family stories of men dieing from doing crazy things, in old age, in my dad's family. I think the family might be a hereditary propensity toward Alzheimer's. My mom has Alz now at age 87; she's almost completely gone mentally. There is no evidence that hers has a genetic component.

I made a critical girl mistake that any rational woman would scoff at me for: I refused to buy my actual dress size. Yes, I'm one of those types. Sure I could have got that red A line in a 16 (XL) and probably had room to spare, but no, I went for 12 (L). My ego will not allow me to be a 16. So on go the spanx and in I will wedge myself and hope that the industry is also playing to my ego by having a size 12 actually be a 16. I know, I know it's shallow. I should just be comfortable, and not worry about numbers but man... no! I will not kowtow to my overindulgence.

In some areas of my life I am unapologetically weird. Pantyhose make me feel claustrophobic, so I always wore gartered stockings, which I gave up on when I was Muslim, because with floor length skirts, who needs anything but cotton anklets? So, now that I have rejoined a wider community, I can wear skirts up to my knees, so in more formal situations, I need to wear stockings again.

Then, I got to work, and my supervisor passed on a compliment from the day staff in the fashion department . He said they had said, "Can we keep her?" So that made me feel pretty good.

Life Update- still no stories

I finalized on the house on Monday, so I am now an owner of property. I've had the plumber come out and got those little odds and ends taken care of. I also had the outside pressure washed and the yard work done. On this coming Monday, I have the exterminator coming out to deal with the termites and the spiders (ICK!!!) and all the little carpenter ants. I've had the bed and the living room delivered, so technically I can sleep there. But I still have no wires. Actually, that's a lie, I have two hundred feet of wire, it's sitting in a coil on the counter.

Getting stronger

I think I'm getting stronger, and I dont mean physical strength. One way I'm getting stronger is the ability to stop beating myself up over mistakes. For example, yesterday I started to regret getting my hair done. I realized it was not the best use of the money I had gotten for my bottles, that I had other things I should have done first. But rather than spend hours calling myself names, which would have been my response before, I simply filed the whole thing in a mental box called "stuff to learn from", and let it go.

'I slept with 1000 men'

Apparently, this self confessed 'sex-addict' confessed on national day time television that she'd had over a thousand male lovers, then revealed she'd had a sex change.

She apparently wanted to do a photoshoot with the Sun. Attention seeking or what? Voice was quite good though.

Sadder than any character I could dream up in my stories.

Had a peek at some of my old entries, and I find it almost impossible to believe how far I've come in such a short time. If I was writing my life as a fiction story, everyone would say "oh, come on now! That's just not realistic!" But its actually happening, and its been almost .... easy? Like all I really had to do was just .... decide to live, to be the real me, and everything would start falling into place? I'd pinch myself, but if this is a dream, I dont want to wake up....

'A Quiet Strength' - Coming Soon!

A short while ago I placed a post here about a story idea that I was mulling around in my head of a single father and his child who is in a m2f transition. I wanted the story to focus more on the father's turmoil of dealing with a 'transitioning' child than with the child itself. I had a pretty good idea of how I wanted to start the story and where I wanted it to end...just no real idea of how to get from 'A' to 'B' so I 'put it out there' and people responded.

Since I began to seriously began to address my different-ness in 2001 the good folks at this site have carried me through crisis after crisis; 5 hospitalizations for mental breakdown, a SRS operation, the loss of my family and everything I cared about in life. I was three days from living on the street before things slowly began to turn around. Last night, I was thinking, and I realized how much progress I'm making in areas not directly related to my gender issue. For example, I'm getting better at doing the day-to-day routine, taking care of the things that need to be taken as routine. I've got some ways to go, but I'm doing better at this.

The other big thing is dealing with my flashbacks. Like the other night, I was starting to have one, and suddenly, I "heard" a voice telling me "Dorothy, you dont need to go there. Dont you understand? You beat him. He's gone, and you're still standing. You won!"

Woo Hoo! :D

I have been here at BC|TC for slightly longer than 12 weeks and have over 2000 'Kudos' for my stories...to me that's a really big deal and I appreciate them! I only hope to continue to produce stories that people here want to read.

Thanks!

I am a new member here, but have been a reader for some time. I recently wrote PRIVATELY to an author here. She alerted me to the number of negative comments she had received for one particular story and we discussed the pain such negativity can cause in the mind of the writer. Can I make a suggestion? There is a management tool called the 'Praise Sandwich' in which the first paragraph is something positive or praise-worthy; the second and third (if necessary) can be something negative or critical, and the final paragraph again something positive.
