HRC Corporate Equality Index (CEI) for 2012 (Trans Benefits)

HRC Corporate Equality Index (CEI) for 2012 (Trans Benefits)
by Annette MacGregor

HRC's published the 2012 edition of the CEI, and I'm happy to see that my employer is finally rated at 100%! :-) It's been 95% for the last several years (the hold up was trans benefits... They had them, but they were provided on a case-by-case basis despite the exclusion in insurance. The exclusion is no longer in the insurance policies and benefits are awesome!).

being stealth vs. being out

I know most trans-people try to be as stealth as possible - some going as far as changing towns to escape from their past as the opposite gender. But for me, because of my circumstances, this simply isnt an option for me. I have no choice but to be up front about who I am and what I'm doing. There are many times when I wonder what it would be like to be treated as a woman, full stop, but I doubt that will happen. Ah well.

Kindle Update

Thanks to everyone who left help and support here.

I finally bit the bullet and went through Amazon's copyright process and was able (without using more than my nom-de-plume) demonstrate that it was my story, or at least, that it was not the purported author's story, and they removed it.

Although I did provide the same data for Karen Elizabeth L.'s story, evidently since I did not claim it, they did not remove it.

a better day at work, with a funny moment at the end

Well, last night went much more smoothly, despite my being in some physical pain. But the topper was when I had to tell a co-worker (who is always rather silent around me) that he had to take a pile of pallets outside. He dropped them in the freezer section of the store instead, and then shook his head, Once I got out of range of him, I started giggling, because it occurred to me to wonder if he was being sexist - he just didnt want to take an order from a girl. Wouldn't that be a hoot?

I Went To My Uncle's Visitation

I went to my uncle's visitation tonight. Most of my family already knew about me and it wasn't as big an issue as I thought. Of course, there were some who avoided me, but that was no surprise. My aunt Susan paid me the greatest compliment I have ever had. She told me that she loved me even more because I am living the truth in my life and not shying away from telling the truth no matter what. Those words meant so much to me and I vowed to myself and to others that I will always live my truth, because for so many years, I couldn't out of fear for what others would think! Never again!

Coming out.

So there I was, Sunday morning club rides and I'm turned up in the normal Welsh drizzle expecting a nice 28 mile amble with the group fours; only to find no other group fours or even group threes had turned up. I'm debating taking off on my own and enjoying a nice pleasurable ride at my own pace all nice and regular like but oooooh nooo!

"No Bev", says Les the club secretary, "come on out with the group twos, we'll take it easy for you."

"Yeah!!!!!" Says I as I look pointedly up into the rain sodden clouds and the 'unsolvable porcine equasions of flight' refuse to leave my head.

A cousin has cancer

We got a phone call from my aunt Pat last night, saying that her eldest son has cancer. Apparently, he had some before, and was cured, but the new one isnt the same as the old. I guess he is estranged from his dad, and Pat is angry that the boy's father cant put aside their differences because he's sick. It reminded me of the rest of my family, who have taken the ability to hold a grudge and perfected it into an art form. One of these days I should find a way to come out to them, but as they are not part of my life much, if they reject me, I dont lose much. Ah, well.

Identical Twins, sorta, one is transsexual

This is a good article on a family in Maine that are dealing with a transgender kid who is part of a set of identical twins. One is a son, the other a daughter, but biologically/genetically should be about the same.

It would be interesting to see the results of a genetic study and fMRI scan on the two of them. I think it is studies of identical twoins that would be most useful to learn about the sources of being TS, eh?

About My Hair

For those who said that I should let my hair grow out and straighten it, I can do that. I have tried to straighten it out and nothing keeps it straight at all. It just keeps curling up on me after dries out. Since I grew up in the military family, I have gotten use to having my hair short. I have a wig that is red and long, so I can wear that if I want to go out. I was thinking along that line right now.

Please Understand

Doing the administration here is not easy, keeping things friendly and focussed on stories, storytelling, reading and commenting on stories. Maybe I should do away with the blogs.

Twice today I have had to remove comments for being unfriendly, both times because some reported news event and someone's fairly innocuous comment sparked replies that got political and maybe a bit unfriendly. Whenever this happens, it has nothing to do with my own politics, sometimes I have to remove posts that I agree with because not doing so eventually leads to flames, in my experience.

Disassociation

Of all the aspects of myself that give me trouble, (which are many, and profound) the one that is on my mind at the moment is my ongoing internal narration. I seem to have an author within, recording and commenting on my thoughts and actions from a third person perspective.

I believe the medical term for this is disassociation.

I more than understand that the things that I write are not for everyone. I tend to deal with harsh subject matter in a pretty straight-forward way that not everyone is comfortable. I get that. wanting to live the life of the characters I write about...

This is in general to other authors who write. Have you ever wanted to live the life of the characters that you write about? I often feel this way, especially when the character is like Christine in my 'Christine's Love' story. She personifies everything that I find fascinating in a female. On a side note, often when I write, I find that I place myself into the story and strangely enough, I seem to sense how they would respond...I find it strange but possibly it really isn't, as I am sure that other authors do this themselves. I'm sorry, I'm rambling...I really need to get to writing.

Story voice

I often worry that as I write almost entirely in the first person, my characters would end up becoming, to be honest, 'me' and all the same. It is a difficult one to judge, because in writing said lead role I tend to be doing it by the 'method'. Annie is me, Gillian is me, Steph shared more than a name while I brought her to life. What surprised me, however, was a remark at work.

Two of my colleagues are reading the dead-tree version of 'Uniforms'and one of them passed a comment after Chapter 2.

The girls of my life growing up

I was sitting here at the computer getting some things done for work, and while I was pondering things, some old memories hit me. Flashes from late toddlerhood, preschool, elementary, middle school, and I realized something I had not noticed before. I always had a girl my age that was a friend and role model for me. I had boys that I was friends with. At times I hung out with them a lot more, but growing up I always had that one girl that I looked to when I was unsure about how to act, or that I looked to when the boys I played with confused me or just got too rough.

I wrote a story this week which is in the "let it stew" stage. As I should, I used spell check and discovered some alleged mistakes in my writing. One of the sentences I wrote said, "So, I watched him and her together wishing I was her." Spell check said, "...wishing I was she." The disputed word is an object of the sentence fragment, not the subject ("I" is the subject of the fragment). therefore "her" is correct.

Moral: use "Spell Check" but also use your brain. "Spell Check" is only a computer program.

He discovers that he has Power, and he learns that the Power is transforming him into ...well, sort of a female ...

It combines magic and history; BCTS readers were very favorable to my stories "Breath of Life" and the most recent "The Story of My First Lives". I hope you enjoy it!

I wonder if any of the males on "Strictly Come Dancing" or "Dancing with the Stars" would be brave enough to follow in the footsteps of Zac Hammer here... :)

The perils of women drivers...

Apparently allowing women to drive would increase prostitution, pornography, homosexuality and divorce.

Yes, we're talking Saudi Arabia, and one particularly loopy academic (Kamal Subhi) who's submitted that description as part of a report to the country's legislative assembly, the Shura, in an attempt to get it to drop plans to reconsider the ban on women drivers.

You can read more about this rather strange report over at BBC News. Further evidence it's a mad world out there.

Mixed day at work

Well, last night was kind of a mixed day. First, just before we started, I said to one of the other girls, "Shoot. I forgot to bring my boobs" By which I mean the little inserts that I use to give me some shape. She started laughing, and said, "Sorry, Dorothy. I just thought there are days when I wish I could forget mine at home."

My rules to writing. updated

There are no rules

I forget where I either read or watched that. Its a memorably quote though.

Do I have a plot...eeeehhh kinda I know what the ending is sorta. Usually very vaguely.

Where do I get my ideas from. The spark for a story comes from anything. Another story, stubbing a toe, cussing at the stupid cat. I do say spark because thats just what it is *What if...* is pretty much the spark. From there I have a picture in my head then it starts moving with a life all its own.

The writer me just uses words to try to describe what I see think and feel in my head.

Not another bloody birthday!

Where has the past year gone? I don't feel any older - can I demand a recount?

Had my hair cut, bought myself a birthday cake - an apple and custard turnover, which I shall have for elevenses. Watch the rugby between Wales and Australia this afternoon and go and see my daughter and my ex tomorrow.

Could be worse, it was last year, it snowed.

Angharad.

Did you know Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer was a girl?

It is said:

In the Northern Hemisphere in winter, generally the male reindeer will shed their antlers, the female reindeer (being one of two female breeds who have antlers) will maintain their antlers to allow for clearing of snow for foraging so as to support their young.

Merry Christmas everyone at BC, thanks for all your great stories in 2011.

thought I would point it out

I was looking over my latest post, Through the years: Two against the world part 4 and found a clickable link in the post. I didn't put it there, but it was there, i removed it though. Now I found one in Pink angel as well. Not sure what's going on, but it's like ads have gotten into the posts.

YAY... but huh?

I got my passport and it is all official and everything! I finally have the correct gender marker and everything! Woot!!

The only confusing thing is that it seems to only be valid for two years. This is irritating and I am not pleased with this. So I am going to call them on Monday and ask for clarification. So that is a touch irritating.

But YAY!!
