a productive day

Well, despite still fighting the flu, I had a productive day. I got my laundry done, and took my bottles to be recycled. I took the money I got from that and spent some on getting my hair done, which was a nice experience for me since I asked them to do a more feminine style, and they had no issue with it. Again, the amazing tolerance of Canadians comes through.

Amazing amounts of progress

Had a peek at some of my old entries, and I find it almost impossible to believe how far I've come in such a short time. If I was writing my life as a fiction story, everyone would say "oh, come on now! That's just not realistic!" But its actually happening, and its been almost .... easy? Like all I really had to do was just .... decide to live, to be the real me, and everything would start falling into place? I'd pinch myself, but if this is a dream, I dont want to wake up....

A short while ago I placed a post here about a story idea that I was mulling around in my head of a single father and his child who is in a m2f transition. I wanted the story to focus more on the father's turmoil of dealing with a 'transitioning' child than with the child itself. I had a pretty good idea of how I wanted to start the story and where I wanted it to end...just no real idea of how to get from 'A' to 'B' so I 'put it out there' and people responded.

The Long Journey

Since I began to seriously began to address my different-ness in 2001 the good folks at this site have carried me through crisis after crisis; 5 hospitalizations for mental breakdown, a SRS operation, the loss of my family and everything I cared about in life. I was three days from living on the street before things slowly began to turn around. It took years, 10 of them to finally feel like I really wanted to live again, and that did not begin to happen until early last March.

Signs of progress

Last night, I was thinking, and I realized how much progress I'm making in areas not directly related to my gender issue. For example, I'm getting better at doing the day-to-day routine, taking care of the things that need to be taken as routine. I've got some ways to go, but I'm doing better at this.

The other big thing is dealing with my flashbacks. Like the other night, I was starting to have one, and suddenly, I "heard" a voice telling me "Dorothy, you dont need to go there. Dont you understand? You beat him. He's gone, and you're still standing. You won!"

There is a management tool called the 'Praise Sandwich' in which the first paragraph is something positive or praise-worthy; the second and third (if necessary) can be something negative or critical, and the final paragraph again something positive.

A thought I had several decades ago, and has been reiterated more than once here is the idea of wearing a mask. Come so far, but so far to go

I've kinda reached a place where I'm being forced to choose between moving forward and risking what I've already accomplished. See, the next steps are kinda tricky - I have to somehow navigate the ex, change my name, and then I'll be as close as I think I can come as surgery is not likely. But the risks are high too, I flop it with the ex and I worry I'll be tempted to just go back into the closet until I die. I think that's why I've been delaying putting my name change in high gear, much less confront the ex. But standing still isnt much of a option, at least not for long. Ah, well.

Golf Season Has started

I know there are some sports fans and golf fans out there. If you are relatively new to this site, you might want to read Bobbie and the Glass Ceiling. The story belongs to the Cynthia Chronicles series and has many of the characters that were recently featured in Charli and the Girl Cave. The story takes place in a famous golf venue. In spite of what many may think, golf is not a good walk ruined.

I can't believe that I can't get my butt in gear to write anymore...

I hate to do this, but I think I will post what I have, then post scenes as I get them in my head. I think it would likely make people happier than me not posting anything for such long periods of time.

Stand by for short posts Chapter 28.1, ETA... a few minutes from now.

Towards the end of the movie “The Graduate”, Benjamin (played by Dustin Hoffman) frantically rushes to save Elaine (Katherine Ross) from marrying. He drives to San Francisco and across the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge to Berkeley, where the wedding ceremony is taking place. Simon & Garfunkel merrily sing in the background as there’s a spectacular shot of Benjamin’s car driving in the sunlight over the bridge crossing the sparkling waters of San Francisco Bay–

Except you can’t do that ...

I noticed the hit count for visitors is over 19,793,000. Wasn't just yesterday that we (I think I'm allowed to say 'we') hit 10,000,000. What a great job done by Erin and the others who know how to make this refuge so nice.

Making a comeback

After a year of deep intense therapy, psychotrophic drug adjustments I am finally beginning to settle in. I had two stories I wrote under an assumed alias now under my name and a friend who is searching their archives for a story we penned together.
I am not out of the woods yet, I've learned that people who have any sort of vascular surgery tend to get depressed often.
I am awaiting vascular surgery on my left leg some time this year and if it was like the surgery on my right leg I am going to have three to four months where my memory is going to be vaguee.
