In my world the roles are blurred.
Here in America, and probably elsewhere, the gender roles are very blurred in certain parts of society. I live with the 20-40 year old children of the 60's hippies. Many of these folk live in a shared housing situation, and within certain limitations men and women share in the various duties. However, nothing has made women any safer on the street alone at night, and men, by their very natures, poor dears, still have to learn to cope with the poisonous drug called Testosterone.
It is hard for me at times because I am a very 50's woman and love to have doors opened for me and to have a man to change the oil.

I too, was raised in the late 60's, in a traditional male dominant role. I also had a strong mother, and I always believed in the equality of the sexes. I did not really like this video when I first saw it, maybe because I was still trying to deny my gender issues and accept being a man. Last night, was the first time in almost 30 years, that I watched the video again and I could relate to the message of the song, which to me is that if we tried to understand the other sex we would find a lot of similarities between them as well as the differences.
I agree about the dangers of the street at night, but I think that really applies to how vulnerable you appear. I think women need to show that they will put a fight and a good way to do that is to learn the art of self-defence.
