Page Could Not Be Loaded
We're very sorry, but the page could not be loaded properly. This should be fixed very soon, and we apologize for any inconvenience. Erin, Piper, Cat and Samanatha are on it (hopefully).

I hate this message that comes up too often after I try to post comments or stories.
Am I alone?

I can't tell what is happening just from the Page Not Loaded screen. When does this occur? Twice a day we reset the database server and that message goes up for about 20 seconds. We also put it up for part of the maintenance period just after 1 am Pacific time. Other than that, it sometimes goes up while we are working on the site, which really is not that often. If you get it more than that, I'd say you've got a page stuck in your cache and when your ISP is slow getting to the site, your cache puts up the old page that you may have gotten during one of the database outages.

Traffic is up right now, quite a bit, and we're drawing even more "traffic" from various survey bots. This is putting a strain on even the new servers we bought last fall. I don't know for sure what solution we can get to, but it may involve using a distributed database over more than one server. We already moved search and the search database off the main server and that allowed us to restore search as a full time feature. To really get more out of what we have, we're going to need at least two more servers. And the time to set them up.

Hugs,
Erin
