Conversations with men

Well, over the last two days I've had two very different conversations with two very different men, and I thought I would share them with you.

First, I had a conversation with one of my neighbors, that started with him asking me how I was doing, and when I said I was hanging in there, he said "not for much longer, right?"

Turns out he was talking about my SRS.

So we had a laugh, and a good conversation on the whole subject and I felt very relieved, because I didnt know how he'd react.

No wonder there has been a deafening silence recently.

Southern Comfort Conference - SCC

I was just curious about how many people are going to the Southern Comfort Conference this year in September and was wondering if we should have a get together there of all the people from this site who are attending it. This has been done in previous years and it is good way to finally meet some of the people who contribute to and read stories on this site.

It felt good to write again

Yesterday, thanks to a challenge that Dorothy Colleen put up, I was able to actually sit down and write. While it was a short 1000plus word story, it really felt good to do so.

Last weekend was the first days off I had taken since before Memorial Day, other then a day to take my son to Vermont to visit a potential college. He will be a senior in high school come September. So writing has been difficult both from a motivation and energy or time.

The Jekyll Legacy - Slight Delay

I appear to have disrupted my connectivity for a bit, until I can put things back together at least.

I apologise for the delay. I stepped on a tack, you see, and spun around, fell flat on my backside, and collapsed my little Internet accessories table.

Nothing serious, aside from embarrassment, but I have to suss out how to work a screwdriver to put the table back together.

Sent, as one says pretentiously, from my handy iPhone.

(and it is awfully handy sometimes, but I can't quite bring myself to post an entire chapter using my thumbs)

Bike?

As there have been no episodes of ‘Bike’ for the last few days, I spoke to Angharad yesterday. This is just to let you know, she is well.

While we talked on many subjects, Bike was not one of them.

As one of the fans of this story all I can say is I hope she will continue. Like Tinker Bell, I believe.

So the obvious question is, Do You Believe?

Sleepy

Got back to the hotel, ate some chips and salsa and worked on the site for an hour or so and fell asleep. I probably would have slept straight through except some guy outside my window about 11:30 couldn't get his car alarm to shut off. Either that or he was stealing a car. I got up to look out the window, my car is still there but by that time, I was awake and hungry so I made a trip down to the snack machines and here I am.

Had a nice day at the waterpark today

well, today I went to a waterpark and had a very nice day. I'm still getting used to being in these types of situations as myself, but like always, no one paid me any mind at all. To make things extra nice, I got called Ma'am on my way home when I stopped at the grocery store - despite the fact that the only really fem thing I had was no socks in my mary-janes, and a purse.

One day, I'll just expect that kind of treatment, but it hasnt happened yet.

Same, yet different?

I was somewhat pleasantly amused by Dorothy's recent post "To any non-trans guy brave enough to answer" which opened a discussion about erections, and the having of them. My interest was further piqued by her post "Here is a challenge for you all" about breasts. Not wanting to thread jack, I thought I might post my own thoughts on both topics from the other side of the fence.

Groo en Español

Had another good day at the con, bought some comics collections, including one of Groo off of Sergio Aragonés in Spanish. I asked him if he wrote the dialog himself but he said no, that he wrote the stories and drew them but as usual Mark Evanier wrote the dialog and then Sergio had some other person translate Mark's dialog into Spanish. Seems roundabout. :) I know that there are comics out there that Sergio has done in Spanish that he wrote himself but he didn't have any at the con. It sort of tickled him that I bought the one I did.

Two different milestones, two differnt feelings

Well, today I two moments that felt like feminine milestones, but I reacted quite differently to each of them. First, when I was eating supper, I brushed my arm against my breasts and suddenly felt all sorts of confusing feelings as my body reacted to the contact. I liked it, I was scared of it, and it took my friend Jaci several minutes of talking to me on the phone to restore some semblance of balance.

Collaborating

As some of you know, I am the compiler of the DarkRealms Gazetteer. What none of you are aware of is that the DRU Gazetteer is the second list that I compiled. The first list that I came up with is for Penny Lane's "Somewhere Else Entirely" epic story. I did this mainly for my own enjoyment. I have recently sent her the most up-to-date list I have asking for permission to post like I did for the DRU. She came back with an even better idea so that the list would be tied directly to her story page for that series.

I have a serious question. Do you LIKE getting erections? Is it supposed to feel good?

Well, I dont. I hate mine with a passion. They hurt. They make it harder to wear the kind of clothes I like. And they are a reminder I am not the person I want to be, need to be, or am inside, depending on your point of view.

Ah, well.

My mom found out last night that our little group of rental houses (condos?, not sure, they are connected one to the other, is that a condo?) are going to be sold off. Nobody know for sure what that means, but its possible they want to turn these from rental properties to ownership ones, in which case we wouldnt be able to stay here. My poor mom is panicking, and between that and the big storm we had last night that hailed out her flowers, she's having a rough day.

I was talking to my ex last week when we were walking back from the American Museum in Bath, about that fact that Saturday 14th July, is twenty six years since I transitioned, and went to work as a female for the first time.

She had no recollection of our dash to Cardiff to enhance my wardrobe, though in all fairness, I suppose I had more to remember about it. Looking back, I consider I was very fortunate to working for a then District Health Authority, who were sympathetic. It could have gone much worse.

Well, I had my last session at the rape center. We reminisced about the first time I went to her office in female clothes, and how far I've come since then. She also told me to try not to worry about times like I had the other day, its actually a good sign that I was able to get some of that stuff out of me, but maybe I should switch to adult mode when they happen to access the skills I've learned in my sessions.

One day at a time, that's all I can do, right?

Dead Reckoning by Mercedes Lackey

I've just finished reading Dead Reckoning by Mercedes Lackey. It is a very good book, and the main character is a FtM TV. The book is about zombies in the Wild West (1867). For those familiar with the Deadlands RPG setting, it is much like that without the Ghostrock(?) and physical changes, but with the Magic/Weird Science. For others think Wild Wild West with Magic, that isn't entirely accurate but a decent idea for the setting.

I highly recommend this story along with most of Mercedes Lackey's novels.

I have been reading some excellent stories that will appeal to some of the folks here.

http://www.chakatsden.com/chakat/FT-index.html

If you don't like furries or science fiction, don't bother.

The Chakat universe involves Earth and the surrounding star systems a few hundred years from now. There are aliens, Earth-developed anthropomorphic beings, humans, star ships, and all the stuff that goes along with that.

The title species, the Chakat, are a race of felitaurs (think of a centaur, but with a cat body for the lower half, and an anthropomorphic cat for the upper half.

The most amusing part occurred about 2/3 of the way along the marching route. An organized group of bible bashers were bitching through their sound systems and holding banners and generally preaching fire and brimstone on us LGBTers. Most of us glanced at them briefly as we passed, but no-one paid them any further heed. Talk about a gloriously futile gesture. :D

I've been on holiday this week, though because of two furry things, I don't go away, except the odd day trip. I did two this week, one to Portsmouth and the other to Bath.

All in all the weather has been the worst I can remember for a summer. June was the wettest on record, and July seems intent on beating it. Parts of Devon, the next county over from me, had a month's rain in 24 hours, I think we must have been close behind because it tipped down all day. I did go out because I wanted my Guardian for the weekend and I got some more furry food, although they'd just as soon eat mine.

that he is the worst and he doesn’t love me ...
they say I'm blind of love that I can’t see
I don’t care if he has no money, no job or if he is strange
They say he is playing badly and that I’m his game

I must confess that when he kisses me
the world is spinning inside my head,
I close my eyes and I feel his breath,
my blood burning any negative thoughts.

and I trust, I trust, I trust him ..
I believe him when he says he loves me
I think his love will be eternal

Shutter/Shudder A pet peeve.

Okay look. I am by NO means perfect when it comes to word usage, but there are some common mis-usages that occur on a regular basis in a lot of stories.

Lose-Loose

Heel-Heal

Waist-Waste

and on and on.

One that just makes me SHUDDER, is using shutter, or vice versa. One may shudder, but one CANNOT shutter unless it involves a window one is shuttering. Fear can make one shuDDer, not shuTTer. One can shuTTer a window, but cannot shuDDer it.

When I run across one of these mis-used words, it jars me out of the story sometimes.

Living up to my name

My online name, Ragtime Rachel, is perhaps a bit grandiose considering I play the piano rather poorly, but there is one piece I play rather well, and that's Scott Joplin's "Maple Leaf Rag." It was the song I heard Eubie Blake playing one day when I was twelve--he did it, as I recall, as part of a PBS special--and from then on, I was hooked, hopelessly, on ragtime. I had never heard anything quite like it, and endeavored to learn to play, simply to play that kind of music.
