Since I mentioned it yesterday, I might as well tell the story of how I came to run for president of the student council in high school.

See, by the time I reached grade 11, things had seemed to have turned around for me. I wasn't being bullied anymore, I belonged to clubs, I had people I hung around, in short I had made some inroads into having a connection to the world around me.

So it was that when I realized that the person running for president of our student council was going to be unopposed, I felt a need to throw my hat into the ring, if only on the principal that there should always be a choice in an election.

To my great surprise, people took a liking to the fact an "outsider" would run for office, and pitched in to help my campaign, making posters and doing everything else they could think of to get the word out.

I lost by less than 20 votes.

I would have not been at all prepared to actually be in charge of anything, so its probably a good thing that I lost, or boy would the next year been an interesting one....

The end result of my impulsive act was that I got the loudest cheer of anyone at my graduation, louder even than the valedictorian.

It was the high point of my life as a guy, and after high school things fell apart quickly, but that, as they say, is another story ...

Student Council...

Dang.

20 votes...

Good job on trying, though. Love your reason for doing so, too.
