How to you top a Magnum Opus?

I'm starting to think that, no matter what I do, I'll never be able to top "Op Rescue- The New Co-Ed", at least in my mind. It may be my Magnum Opus, my best that was, is, or will be. I'm getting the muse back in action, and the work is a new Op Rescue story about a young boy who was a runaway - even though it will be multiple chapters, I can't see it even living up to my feelings about New Co-Ed.

Breaking The Block

If anyone has been wondering where the updates have been lately its because I've been suffering from a very SEVERE case of Writer's Block. Though I'm happy to report that I think I've broken the Block.

I probably won't be continuing the Misty story for a bit though....I'm a bit stumped with it. I do have another quick story in mind though...one that I think fans of the DRU will be happy to see.

Today's chapter will be a little late!

Due to Life, I'm running a little late with chapter 18. But don't worry! Everything is already written in my copious amount of notes spread across three devices! (one of which is an actual paper notepad. I'm high-tech!) It'll just take me a while to whip up the narrative mortar to hold these bricks of plot and exposition together :)

It'll definitely be posted today, though. Uh, unless Even More Things Happen. Let's hope not!

On that note, back to narrating!

Chasing my tail

All the hugs,

Amazing how life can turn around.

It's amazing how life can turn around. THis past month I've been working on moving out and getting set up for college. My Dad kicking me out pushed that plan into high gear, whether I'm ready for it or not. So I've gotten everything set up, and have my room mate selected. The kicker? The Student housing, instead of treating me as male as on my ID, they accommodate to my wishes and treat me like a woman. Even gave me a female roommate. Not something I expected. but something I'm happy for. I met my roommate at the mall earlier and just basically had fun getting to know her.

I need to apologize

If anyone commented on my stories and I did not reply I want to apologize. Without boring anyone with my problems I will only say I was in a dark place for a few weeks and slipped up on replying. Now I do not know who I have responded to and who I have not.

If I did skip thanking you for commenting please know I apologize greatly. You words of encouragement mean the world to me and I was not ignoring anyone intentionally. I beg your forgiveness.

Thank you,
Stef

Missing Aardvark

This is more for curiosity than anything else. Has anyone heard anything from Aardvark in a while? I know I haven't been doing much around the site for a while other than lurking but I haven't seen Doug in a long time or even heard from him. Just wondering if anyone has heard from him and how he's doing. Thanks.

The future of That's How the System Works

Hi all, I wanted to start off by saying I'm sorry to everyone who expected to see more That's How the System Works last year. I wanted to let everyone know what I have been up to regarding my writing. One of the problems I have encountered often as I write the story is that new ideas often pop into my head, ones I want to incorporate into the story, but may not always mesh properly with the existing cannon of the story.

Just when I thought I was out... they pull me back in.

On my birthday I quit my part time jobs with 2 separate Podiatric practices. Well, I tried anyway. I was told by each doctor that he would accept my resignation only if I would agree to come in as a consultant as needed but that I wouldn't have to work a regular schedule. One of them gave me a second job doing something I only did informally for him before.

I tried to go from 4 jobs to 2, but now it feels like 5. I guess it's nice to be wanted at my age... But, geez, guys.

Is it working?

Life the last two weeks has once again derailed my writing. I was working on a comedy fantasy piece, which seems to be coming together, but I’ve now ended up working on a story in far darker places. Anyway I’m writing blind, not sure if I’m writing something worth reading or just putting words on the page. If anyone is bored and has a few minutes to look at a hunk of a story (and can face my writing), head over to...

Aunt Holly

I just found out a few hours ago Aunt Holly died. Even though I knew her health had been getting worse, I had been hoping somehow she'd pull through. I guess, sometimes, just wishing with all your heart don't always work.

Some part of me just wants to cry, but I can't. All I can feel is numbness right now. And emptiness. The world feels emptier without Aunt Holly in it.

Into the Fires of Hell

The title of this blog is one of the thoughts I had as Holly Hart went into the crematorium yesterday. The other was the Nazi ovens in Poland. I was there at the time and the event was harder than I thought it would be.

Another note I sent all the comments and private messages that I saw to Holly's sisters. I thought they would appreciate the sentiment.

I am also thinking that there should be a writing contest to honor Holly, as she was an author and major editor.

Sore LH fingertips

I have just returned from the Shrewsbury Folk Festival, where, what with workshops and sessions, I spent about six hours each day playing. For three days, and two hours on the first evening. I was playing bodhran a little, but all the rest was mandolin, mandola and, er, ahem, nothing to see here, move along, um... banjo. I know I got photographed in the big session, but the rest of the time was music.

Being trans and a survivor of sexual abuse

During the debate of the California law allowing trans kids to choose which bathroom to use, a Christian leader talked about how all these "sexually confused" kids were more than likely victims of sexual abuse.

And ever since, I've been struggling with coming up with the proper response to this.

I want to write an essay about being trans and being a survivor of sexual abuse, but I doubt I have the needed skills to write an objective essay, especially when I seem like the perfect example of what they're talking about.

Ah, well.

"But its pink!"

I seem to have acquired a "voice" whose sole purpose is to make me as girly and feminine as possible. For example, when I am at work, and I see some item that's been painted pink, I end up having an argument like this:

"We should get that. Its pink!"

"Cant afford it."

"But its pink!"

"I have one just like it."

"Not in pink!"

"Its not even something I can use!"

"But its pink!"

And on and on it goes.

I blame Jaci for this voice. Its gotta be her fault ....

Need some help with the Jaci/Dottie stories

I've had a couple of people ask me about putting the Jaci/Dottie stories in chronological order, and I think its a good idea, but I'm not sure how to make it work. Part of the problem is I struggle with the "weight" thing, and part is that the stories are done by more than just me, so I cant get into say Jaci's stories and edit them so they fall in the right places.

Help, anybody?

Darn. I messed up. I finally realized how. It took me a couple days, but I got there eventually. After trying my new breastforms on with every different bra I have, and I have several of different sizes, types, and brands, the reality is finally sinking in. I think I ordered the wrong ones.

Updated Destiny ebook

For anyone that is interested I've uploaded updated versions of the eBook (in pdf and epub format) for the final book in my Ragnarok Rising trilogy, Destiny: Legacy of a Spellbinder. The changes are not major, but they are there. The text is now identical to the previous minor revisions already made here on the web version and I've made some changes to the formatting.

I've updated the links on all the affected organizer pages.

A completely ignorant computer question.

So, I've almost always run my getting to be, ancient, Dell XPS 430 64bit computer with two screens. So, I frequently will answer an email, or comment on a blog by opening the original blog on one screen and then opening the same blog on the other screen for purposes of answering said blog, or email.

So, I am wondering how it is possible to view the same URL twice on the same computer and have it not get terribly confused?

Today I am angry.

I find it incomprehensible that some people can't be decent when commenting or blogging. Remember, when you WRITE something, there is nothing that indicates anything but the WORDS you use. There are no other indicators that could soften the impact of words that appear unkind or severely critical. Normally, when people communicate, there are visual and verbal cues that can soften the impact of words that might otherwise seem unkind. When you write, all there is, is the words.

About Holly Hart

My blog the other day was very brief. Although I knew her death was coming I was still in shock when I wrote the blog. She was one of my virtual sisters in the Evil Witch family. She was my roommate for almost six years. She took in homeless; I was one of them. She edited, and in many cases improved the English of many writers here. She was the virtual mother of Penny Cardin, Heather Rose Brown and Shannon Johnson. Her alter ego was in some of the Little Kids Kamp stories. She tried to unsuccessfully change, for another person, a gold star to a Congressional Medal of Honor.

'Grace' by Nancy Cole on Kindle

Earlier this year I wrote a short story entitled ‘Grace.’ Since then I have changed the ending of Chapter 3 and expanded the story. For those of you who are fans of Downton Abby and can’t wait until next season I expect you’ll be able to satisfy your Edwardian itch with Grace.

The full version is now available in the Kindle version from Amazon.com and in paperback from Lulu.co.

Gifts to keep BC running

It's the middle of August and we still aren't halfway to our goal for July. There've been a lot of unexpected medical expenses and while the hardware fund has collected some money, that last $500 was from me.

I want everyone to know how much we appreciate your gifts, we couldn't do this without help. Piper's work on the servers has made BC stable and reasonably fast. If you appreciate that work and can afford to, a few dollars would be a great help.

Thanks and hugs,
Erin

Another Day In Paradise

Here I am, fairly late at night, had maybe one wine too many, tears streaming down my face as I listen to Phil Collins' "Another Day In Paradise", a song that I love, but it always makes me feel so guilty.

The destitute woman pleads for help and the man pretends he doesn't hear and ignores her. Which of us at some time hasn't done the same? Ignored that desperate plea for help because it was too embarrassing or inconvenient, or too much trouble.

Those of you who started transitioning in the 80's, can you tell me a little about your experience, treatments available, time frames involved and any state requirements (doesn't matter which state). No, I did not discover time travel, I am writing an actual transgendered woman into Angel and would like to know what was different vs what's available now. Thank you for your help.

It's funny how stories emerge.

I don't believe in muses, writing is a cerebral thing and it's something I've always done. I've written Bike most days for the past six years to prove to myself it can be done without loads of drama, or special conditions - I just sit there for an hour/ ninety minutes and out pops the next episode. In some ways it's easier than writing from scratch because my characters are well established and I have plot lines I can continue or even pick up from a while back.

Before I say (write?) anything else, I'd like to extend my thanks publicly to Jaci and Dorothy for allowing me to be part of their crazy little gathering. Yes, folks, I actually survived an online conversation with those two. Though I have to say my participation was mainly limited to laughing hysterically at their antics--more, in fact, than I believe I've done in a long time.

Well, since I'm shy and unassuming: Happy Birthday to Me!

Today is the big 70 for me, and all things considered, it beats the heck out of the alternative. Those who knew me as a teen looked at me, shook their heads and said, "That crazy SOB will never see 30". Well to all of them: Raspberries!

I'm still around and going strong, and whats more I've had fun every day of my life. Though I gripe and bluster a bit on occasion, What's the point of being 70 if you can't be a little curmudgeonly once and a while? But I want you all to know that I love and respect everyone here and that you are all my adopted family.
