There is plenty of free televisions on craigslist that you can get if you mind the old tube style.

If it's a flat panel, one of the capacitors on the power board blew. If it's a tube, then it could be any number of components, including just the main fuse.
I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.

I think that I will never see,
A thing so sad as my TV.
It looks so lonely sitting there,
In desparate need of some repair.
And yet it is my happy day,
the TV repairman is on his way!
And mine refuses to die....
Hmmmph! A "pop" and yours dies. Mine survived a fall off the shelf. I'm practically begging it to expire, so I have an excuse to buy something made in this decade. But it continues to mock me.
I guess it's true. You can't kill evil.
