One Dozen Roses will have an Interactive Table of Contents

.

One Dozen Roses is 36,046 words long. Don't let that deter you. No need to read it all in one setting.

Each story is somewhere between 2000 words and 5000 words. It is possible to read one story at a time, close the file, come back and use the Table of Contents to jump to the next story.

Just now, I had reason to search, "cowgirls don't get mad". Along with the (single) result that I was looking for, the search system offered this suggestion: "cowgirl donut get mad".

I was surprised that the single result was a Bru story. But it had the sequence I was looking for.

Settling on a name.

Hello out there,

It was brought to my attention that the naming I was going for wasn't the best and I agree wholeheartedly. "Magnus and the Misfits" isn't a good name especially because it uses the main character's first name. He doesn't like his first name so I really don't want it in the title.

So, I've settled on a name. "Walker's Path"

I really like this name. It really showcases the direction I want to go with the story. I'm afraid that it might be a little too on the nose though.

Please let me know what you think?

And the news keeps getting worse

So I have an update from last blog.

Dad is getting worse to the point that the doctors gave us a choice. He stays in a care place on a machine, which he doesn't want. Or he comes home for Hospice and lives out his time at home. So as of right now he is here and resting on the bed. He has maybe a couple weeks due to them stopping dialysis.

I will try to post soon, but life is about to get hard for a while

Mark Twain and the Power of Words

Supposedly, upon meeting Harriet Beecher Stowe -- Lincoln said about Uncle Tom's Cabin -- "So you're the woman who wrote that little book that started this great war."

A few months ago I read Uncle Tom's Cabin as part of my research to write a book about a transperson during the Civil War. I was shocked by the emotions elicited. It was frightening to think how the reader would have reacted in the 1800s.

Audio Recording

Back in the dark ages did some voice recording. We won't call it singing. Almost three months ago I lost my voice, my lung capacity, my taste, smell was off too. FYI read where a lady had three tests for the covid and all negative but she knew she had it. Finally her doc agreed even with negative tests. After starting treatment the test came back positive. I only had two negative tests and no medical help getting over it besides home monitoring by my doc. Over two weeks of running an elevated fever, lack of lung capacity, and I finally passed the hump.

New name and more.

Hello out there,

So I ended up renaming the story I'm working on. It was Magnus Walker and the Misfits. I shortened it to Magnus and the Misfits. I'm still not 100% sure about the name of the story so I'm just trying things out. Promise not to change it around too much.

I posted a new episode which is mostly why I'm writing this post. I like to talk with you all is the other reason. I hope you enjoy it!

The wages of sin

I just went through the drive-through at Jack in the Box, as I often do while dropping off my daughter somewhere. I decided to try their jalapeno cheese smothered tater tots. Alas, they didn't provide a plastic spoon to use, and my napkins got a workout. I was happy I hadn't just gotten a manicure!

As often happens, this got me thinking about other guilty pleasures with their own punishments. My wife and I used to joke that the McDLT was NOT a date meal, as you would be wearing your meal. I suppose that could make a date more interesting.... Anyway...

A short essay on the preparation of tea (or why Brits talk about the weather)

In Tammy's latest episode the contentious issue of tea has raised it's ugly head.

This is something we Brits, quite rightly, try not to expose to the world. However the vitriol has been raised to a level in the comments that needs some explanation to our non UK members.

Preparing a cuppa in the UK has historical and regional terminologies, antecedents and traditions that rivals the Japanese Cha-no-yu ceremony.

I have been involved with numerous authors on a soon to be released, "A dozen Roses".

I challenge each of you to pick a favorite character and commit to letting the author know through a comment or PM.

Note you don't have to limit yourself to only one. You will have 13 characters to choose from. Why a baker"s dozen? l'll leave that for you to figure out.

OMG!

So, I just checked to see how my first book is doing on amazon.com and discovered that I Wish is currently #10 in Teen & Young Adult LGBT Fiction in the kindle store. I'm really excited about this, I never really thought that many people would read anything I wrote when I started writing, much less have a book in the top ten of a category like that. So I would like to take a moment to thank Erin and all the girls at Big Closet and DopplerPress and all of my readers for your support. It means a lot to me.

Loss

Well fuck me and my life let me start there. Earlier this morning I spent 2 hours writing a blog trying to explain my anguish and loss during this month. When I came back to reread it I found that it had never published and honestly almost threw my laptop (among other things.) Tell the truth I don't even know why the fuck I'm bothering to write anything again. I mean you know that there are just no words to describe certain situations but I had managed something.

Nasty Material

I was away for a few days but returned to read reviews on my two parting stories "Spinal Tap" and "For Daddy"
These are both objectionable scenarios I admit, which is why I posted them, and posted them when I did.
As a general rule I dislike torture of any kind. I prefer my gender-crossers to be driven by circumstance or persuasion. You will find only three other forced change stories in the 218 stories I have posted here (I think - standing to be corrected).
The thing about "Spinal Tap" is that the mother did it for love, but then there was another...

It's been a long time since I've been here. Life has gotten so crazy I lost a lot of who I am. Once I saw that purple banner though all these memories washed over me. I remember all the kind people who encouraged my writing and gave me amazing advice. I missed being here and I hope to become a regular once more. Since I only wrote stories before I thought it'd be interesting to give blogging a try. The thing I seem to know the most about is just life and living. Todays LA Time 'Calendar' (12/14/2020) section ran a story called 'Moving Beyond he/she in TV Roles' which should be interesting to most that visit Big Closet. What caught my eye was reference to "Sissy: a Coming of Gender Story" - a book published in 2019 AND a Showtime movie.

The LA Times article speaks about the evolution of LGBQT characters becoming visible in films and to the public in general. Readers may find bits & pieces that strike a personal note with them.

John le Carre

Sad to hear of John Le Carre's passing tonight. I was first familiar with his work when Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy was first dramatised by the BBC in 1979 and was hooked on the stories.

It's fair to say I borrowed a little from the genre, particularly for the Unaccounted Gains books.

A real loss to literature. Rest in peace.

the 4 AM curse

When I was training to be a Nurse's Aide, one of the things I was taught was that people with dementia often struggle more at night, and during my time in the job, I confirmed this for myself.

But its one thing when its a stranger who you are being paid to look after, another when its your own mother.

Its been really hard to have my mom wake me at 4 AM almost every day believing that the house is on fire, or Mike is injured, or most often, that Carol is going to come downstairs and throw her out into the street.

last blog

My last blog was about, rather specifically, how in just the uk the language changed over the years. And that "proper" english, by their own terms, is an error. This is due to evolving language.

You will also find that, even innocently, suggesting that someone from the uk has made a mistake you will feel like you have run into an army tank while on a bicycle as they get angry. Not defensive angry and very much will chew you out.

"I'm British and we bloody well know the proper English words not some(blank) from overseas." Literal reply I have gotten more than once.

had a craptastic day

So today was a craptastic day.

Mom started in on how Carol is spying on her and when I tried to reassure her she basically accused me of lying and conspiring to put her in an insane asylum.

then Mike came down tried to talk to her got frustrated and said if she didn't want to see the nurse who is coming on Tuesday or I wanted to eat myself to death he wasn't going to get involved anymore.

Both of these hit me just as I was already struggling with Mr. Nasty, so it made things worse.

I can only hope tomorrow is better.

"Proper" english

There has been, and probably will continue to be, many arguments on who speaks proper English.

This is not about that.

Recently I have been watching some videos from British pathe. Basically video archives from 1930-1970 ish as well as some other videos, again british, from 80s.

Note I am Canadian and therefore part of the "British/English commonwealth". Ie Queen Elizabeth is our queen monarch as well. Our language is a mix of American, British, and french.

Just want to say thanks

Just want to say thanks to whomever it was that marathon read through my stories this past week and clicked to give 'kudos' on every posted part, even though the books have been posted for awhile. It may not seem that big a deal, but for me anyway (not to speak for other authors out of hand here) seeing someone do that really helps maintain motivation to write that next chapter bouncing around in the ol' noggin - especially after a tough mental year (for everyone!) where the temptation to just go 'blah' and binge watch more Netflix or Youtube has been a lot harder to fight off.

okay this morning after mom's nightly waking me up thinking Carol has set a fire in her own bedroom to drive my mom out of the house, I laid on the couch and put on a episode of "Too cute" so I could relax and get back to sleep.

I slept for about 2 hours and woke up to discover I was having what felt like a seizure,

My body shook, stopped, and shook again as if I was getting electrocuted.

After about 5 minutes it stopped, and then after I slept for a while the seizures happened again.

While listening to Terry Goodkind's "The Nicci Chronicles #1" sequel to his "Sword of Truth" series something was said about misunderstanding, misconception, misinterpretation or misperception of information, what is not important

I'm pretty sure that the story was here at BCTS

Story:- Fantasy, involves magic and mythical beings
Setting:- Modern World (I think)

Scene:- Protagonist's elder sibling jumps in front of the attack of the younger and gets hit

It was suggested that I return to this story and write some more. I've done so, like much of my writing, it's freestyle, in other words, it evolves as it goes. I see the characters and follow where they lead me, sometimes it takes me in unexpected directions, episode 9 of this is no exception. I'm not sure when I'll get a chance to write the next one, but I will continue it as time and my other works permit.

I was very happy to find a movie called Switch. this movie was released in 1991 and was one of my first real sources of TG content. I just thought Id share it with all of you.

It's through my bank so I stopped in Monday morning to see what they could find out. Dozens of ten dollars charges were being constantly added to it constantly. Why ten dollars? The date and the security code isn't required if the purchase is under ten dollars. Same reason for the Friday afternoon beginning of the hits. They had the card number but not the security numbers or the date.

For a week, since I got my medical coverage sorted out, I've been trying to find a new doctor, or at the very least someone to renew my prescriptions for my hormones and meds, but so far I can't even get so much as an intake appointment for eight months to a year. The walk-in clinics won't write a new prescription for me either, unless I have a standing one from a local doctor.

Reader Enjoyment

All I know is what I've read in books.

Supposedly, readers get a great deal of enjoyment out of guessing what happens next. How will Emily react when Jacob tells her that she is trans? If the author has made that answer plausible in the story the reader will feel good about continuing. If the answer has been guessed correctly the reader pats herself on the back and reads on -- looking for more self-affirmation.

There has been much discussion about whether are not writing a synopsis is preferable to writing a complete story.

First of all, for those of you who were concerned about me or my blogs, my account has NOT been hacked and the entries were, indeed, made by me.

I believed that I had finally found something that could help a lot of you and was met by what I thought was derision, only to find that it was more concern for me than anything else. I reacted, then, from a place of betrayal and in the face of new information, was shown that I was wrong.

As I lay here trying to sleep, I started thinking about my life - as I am often prone to do. In light of the fact that technically it is Thanksgiving, being nearly 1:30 AM, I started looking at the things that I have to be thankful for.

First, my family is healthy and safe - which in this time and place is something not to be taken lightly. Given that my spouse, two of my sons, and myself all suffered through Covid-19 in late March and early April, and that we are all doing fine now, I am very thankful for the fact that everyone is healthy.

A comment yesterday on one of my stories brought this home to me one more time.

A few years ago, I tried to write a story that would create a pile of revenue for Erin through Doppler Press. That effort failed. I have no interest in reading age regression/baby stories and shouldn’t have tried to write one. I donate my books to Erin and she receives 100% of the revenue. Unlike the other twelve of my books published by Doppler -- this one doesn’t sell much and received poor reviews.

Small SD cards.

I seem to recall one or two people here that used SD cards in their e-reader or something similar, but they had to be very small.

I'm cleaning up a lot of my computer parts and supplies, and I've found a small stack of 128 and 256 MB SD cards (and a single 512 mini SD card). They're too small for my needs, and I still have a 1 GB micro-sd card I can put in an adapter if I need one.

So, if you have a need for small SD cards, drop me a line; I'll delete or mark this as 'completed' once I have someone or multiple someones that can use them.
