That's How The System Works
Chapters 8-9
by Danielle Rose

One of the girls, a Native American, walked past our room. A couple moments letter, she walked back and looked in our room.

“Hello. Who are you?” she asked. Her voice was the second voice I had heard when the girls entered the house.

I pointed at my chest. “I’m Amber. That’s Kim.”

Kimmy waved her hand. “Hi. We’re new here.”

“Yeah, I kind of figured that one out,” said the girl with a giggle. “I’m Jessica. My friends call me Jessie for short.”

“Nice to meet you,” I said. Kim simply nodded in agreement.

“Likewise,” said Jessica. “So, when did you two get here?”

Djinn Game

When three old men find a magic lamp, the genie grants each a wish. Each makes a wish based on how he lived his life, and each, in his own way, GETS what he wished for.

This is the first of a series. The characters differ from story to story, though. What ties the series together is the game "Wits and Wishes" that the djinn play. The object of the game is to outwit the human master and "bend" the wish for the amusement of the djinn.

Seren Dee Petty Chapter 2

Thanks everyone for being so kind about my first ever posting on BCTS, especially for the wonderful comments n PMs I think I’ve replied to y’all n I hope you like this second slice…. Take care my baby.

This crazy Friday was raising so many unanswered questions. Was this business running on child labour? How did Ms Wilson know his girl name when he’d only been given it less than an hour ago? Exactly who, or what, is the agency? Did he really have to come back tomorrow and if so, as Joseph or Seren?

Lost in the Mists of Time
By Fiona Murray
I lost sight of Andrew and the soldier. I adjusted where I was pointing the pistol towards the officer who was drawing his sword and fired. As the smoke cleared, I saw Andrew coming out of a crouched run quickly batted the soldier’s musket away with his left arm and hacked him with his broadsword. I saw the officer lying dead by the door and fainted.

The Solo tag on my two recent standalone stories keeps getting reset to Series. I realise the titles are confusing as they seem to suggest a series, but they are both standalone stories and should be marked as Solo.

The titles of both commence A decade of Big Busts followed by a number, so I can understand why people should think them a series - in one sense they are, but the stories are unrelated to each other except by their publishing history.

Comic or not comic? That is the question

Hey ho, you learn as you live, I guess. What I intended was a story in pictures, so I used, or misused the word comic. What would describe what i want more?

I am open for suggestions.

Hi chaps and chapesses. It's been a while and I have to admit, I'm really embarrassed for not having accosted you with something for ages, but I just don't seem to be able to concentrate the way I did. Not to harp on about it, but the car accident really did something to me and ever since, I've had the devil's own job writing.

I've managed a couple of blogs and started ... well, I've tried to start many story ideas that have just wound up going round in ever-decreasing edits until I stop, thoroughly disheartened that I can't get anything together.

I've been very guilty in the past of posting my own stories but really not reading other peoples. Most of it had to do with time restraints and also this annoying tendency I have to get other people's 'voice' stuck in my head. If I start reading someone, whether mainstream or online, I will tend to start writing in their cadence and using their structure and tone often, so, usually when I am writing I generally don't read anything.

Expat Shield

Well, I don't think I'm breaking the law. Someone mentioned the program "Waterloo Road" and I decided that I wish to watch it, but somehow, this sort of programing is blocked between the North Amercan Colonies and the UK. Had heard of a thing called URL Anonomizer and downloaded Expat Shield, hoping it would be useful for several countries.

At first, I knew it gave me a url in London, but now I think it might be San Francisco, but I can still get UK programing. This means I probably do not know what I am doing.

So, does a URL of 10.200.xx.xx mean anything?

CHAPTER 2

I heard a noise outside and looked out a window. A ship was lowering what I assumed to be the gate. I guess that I was expecting something like those star gates in an old movie I remembered. This was nothing like that. In fact, it had a strange resemblance to a certain device I had been in 3 years ago although about ten times larger. I guess this confirms where the technology came from: the ruins. That was why Mary and I are here. It seems the ruins were built by an ancient civilization that for some reason I have a similar genetic makeup to. This allowed me to operate the devices found in the ruins and no one else, at least so far. Looking at the gate, I had a bad feeling.

That's How The System Works
Chapters 6-7
by Danielle Rose

“What I’m about to tell you cannot leave this room,” I said.

“You have my word,” replied Kim.

“I’m not sure how it happened. One night, I’m sitting in a police station after being taken from my grandfather’s house by the police, and the next thing I know, I’m not who I used to be,” I said.

"What do you mean by not who you used to be?"

"I haven't always been Amber. That night I came to Orangewood was my first night being Amber," I said.

"Who were you before?"

"I was somebody else. Somebody who didn't know the first thing about being a girl."

“If you’re going to sit there and tell me you used to be a boy, I’m going to hurl this book at you.” Kim said, with a look of amusement while picking up the novel I had been reading.

Pulling my knees up to my chest and putting my arms up in a defensive posture, I took a deep breath and closed my eyes tight. “I used to be a boy.”
