Back burner is bubbling...

I currently have ... I think ... a couple dozen story ideas sitting on my back burner. One of those stories has been bubbling recently. The current working title I have for it is "Ward of the State".

In this story, being homeless is ... not exactly a crime, but it *is* an issue the state (of Norcal?) governor promised to "fix" as one of his campaign promises. Once he's been inaugurated, a law is passed, where anyone who is homeless is automatically declared a ward of the state, without regard to the age of the person.

I lost a friend yesterday

So I lost a friend yesterday.

To give you guys some context, a couple of years ago I joined a local writing group.

We would get together once a week and share pieces of our writing and provide feedback to each other.

We had to put things on hold during COVID, but the leader of the group and I kept in touch, and she was responsible for me getting my short story published.

Well, while we were talking on the phone, I apparently said something that hurt her feelings, and the next time we talked, I thought we had cleared the air and everything was okay again.

You Are a Meany, Personal info, I am the Goat and We Are Made of Stardust

Hopefully, I am able to put a lot of information in this short blog. Here is an update on You Are a Meany. Chapter 30 has finally gone to the editor earlier today.
The delay comes from me making a decision in my personal life. I am starting towards a new career. When I go to the computer to write I end up looking up information about the choice. I want to find out as much information on it. In taking online classes and reading first-hand accounts of the issues of this profession I am finding out more about myself.

Tortured For Being Who We Are.

Author:

I am more fortunate than many of you who will never get the opportunity to live as yourselves. For those who reveal ourselves willingly or accidentally, the cost is often rejection, exclusion, and emotional torture as if they pulled our fingernails out. Many years on, thoughts of the ones we once thought loved us but didn't don't come very often. Thoughts of ending it must be fought off but we trudge on in the hopes that the past will punish us less tomorrow.

A garden? I've been watching a British program called "Escape To The Country". There are several things that strike me, but one is the tendency to call everything around the houses a "garden". When you are looking at an acre and a half of land, that isn't a garden, that's a yard, and a freaken' big one at that! For all of us Americans, that's 65,340 sq. feet or 7260 sq. yards.

I just woke up from an amazing dream. It started off with me fending off some shadowy figures with powerful vocal attacks (sorta like Black Canary), then for some reason, one of the longer vocal attacks turned into singing. I've already forgotten the lyrics, but I know the song was called 'Breathless'.

Hi everyone,

Sorry I haven't posted any new chapters lately. I've been busy with my family and the the farm over the last few weeks. It seems that my oldest two daughters and their husbands all thought it would be a great idea to visit at the same time. (July 1-9) Between them being here and working with the 4H Kids plus having to make repairs to the fence line I haven't had a lot of time to write. With my youngest daughter Karen watching me like a hawk I have only been able to get about 400-500 words written per day with the work load.

N.L. Paradox's Huge Stories

I happened upon the Author's stories while rooting around on Amazon. I do not know how old the stories are or where the Author comes from. The stories I've read so far are really large, 500 pages or more. They are well written and easy to read. I'm intelligent enough to interpret the sometimes colloquial terms for Transgender when to me, sometimes the person referred to is Intersex. I've been unable to find the Author anywhere but on Amazon. Is the Author familiar to anyone here? The stories pleasantly stand alone even if the TG references were not there.

His mom, his friend, his friends mom and he went on many vacations together as kids. I know they were at the beach, maybe the Grand Canyon. On the vacations, he dressed as a girl because he wanted to not because of his mom. He also had a girls name. His dad was no longer around. He stopped dressing like a girl because people kept telling his mom he shouldn't and maybe his father too. Not sure the last part.

Has Bike lost its attraction

I am beginning to wonder if Bike has had its day. It's interesting because when I stopped writing it for a year or two, I had regular pleas to start posting it again, but peculiarly, the people who lobbied hardest no longer seemed interested in commenting, so I presume they were no longer reading it. Comments are the only payment we receive as authors and I notice the number of reads and comments are dropping although the kudos stay about the same.

Do I continue posting Bike, or has it had its day? I am asking for your opinions.

It calmed down, but after I'd taken a few more steps it happened again.

I told mom, and had her take over the driving, but it didn't happen again.

Writing as Tag Wrestling

As mentioned in my prior blog about my third Amazon collection “Misfortune and Other Romances of the Old West” the opening story "All her Misfortune” was a joint effort between me and the artist known as Joyce Melton. As I already said it she told me little about a plot she had in mind for a story other than it started with a street kid in Chicago in the mid 19th century escaping from a crime scene and heading west, and she sent me the cover she had drawn up. I have to say that (as it sometimes does with me) I saw the image, and something clicked. I started writing.

I recently posted the first chapter of a story where one of the main characters (Ian) had suffered both physical and emotional abuse. I've been working on it for almost a year now, and have only made it through three chapters. Part of the reason it took so long to get that far, was because it was emotionally draining to write. "Fitness Class" was a solo. Or at least, I could have sworn it was.

But here I am, posting a follow up about a third the original's size. The "universe" does not have a name (other than "Fitness Class"), but there it is.

Most of my stories seem to me to be complete when I write them, the length varies, but usually getting them to proper Novelette length (17500 words or more) would be a struggle. They begin at the beginning, move through the scenes I've invented, and then they end, and that's how long they are.

The good guy was Alex Foxx, a soon-to-be freshman in college who Jazz meets when he accidentally clotheslines her a a store. He's the all-round good guy who parents love
The lost guy was Kris Geremehl, her former boyfriend who has grown up over the years. They share a secret of a past abortion. Jazz's parents forced her and he didn't come to her rescue--not that he could do too much as a thirteen year old.
