You're turned into a girl but...

I have a curious question that may develope into something more.

So let's say you're playing an MMO and you have made your character as a female (or male as you prefer) and you've been enjoying yourself. Suddenly you find yourself yanked into the world of the game, where you are not only the gender you chose in character creation but also the same class and race.

Would you want to leave? Would you try? What would you do in this new existence?

Jamie Austin passed away

Mike Austin, aka Jamie Austin, passed away this week after a lengthy illness. Jamie was a makeover artist, a very good one actually, and I post this simply because there are probably males here that Jamie worked her magic on and were unaware of her death. I was fortunate enough to attend several Southern Comfort Converences and similar events, and somehow was able to get an appointment with her at a couple of them. Before her health began failing several years ago, her shop was in a barn near Glamour Boutique in Boston.

In Flanders Fields

In honor of Remembrance day, here is "In Flanders Fields",

IN FLANDERS FIELDS POEM
The World’s Most Famous WAR MEMORIAL POEM
By Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks still bravely singing fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead: Short days ago,
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved: and now we lie
In Flanders fields!

A GOOD DAY!!

Haha. I not only got called Ma'am on the phone today... the prick talked baby talk to me when telling me how to do something techie! I had a good giggle with the other woman in the conference when both of us gave him hell for being sexist and insulting in the same breath.

A good day. My respirologist said my sleep apnea was well controlled. A doubly good day.

Pain and too many worries

Another pain filled day, and I discovered I really walk funny. My right foot sometimes goes from side to side rather than say back to front or front to back, and when that's not happening my right leg is going in some completely other direction than my left one.

To make things even more stressful, I came home to discover my dog is limping quite badly too.

Declining chapter reads

I've noted how many authors get discouraged about how readership drops off after the first chapter is posted. I did some research and discovered some interesting facts about the way the system does and doesn't count page views.

First of all we know a number of people open the first chapter and decided the story isn't their cup of tea and stop reading. Then there are others who read each chapter and open it up individually and while there is often continued dropoff it isn't as severe as from the first chapter to the second.

I'm sorry - I just have to vent.

As you probably know, I live in Switzerland.

But I am English.

I have a few interests in the UK, and I have trusted my brother with looking after them. A job he has been doing for nearly 20 years now.

I have today had a shock and a surprise.

It looks like my brother has ripped off my sister and I to the tune of about £10,000 to £12,000.

I'm usually an advocate for "Every Vote Counts,"

And that if you don't vote when you can, you shouldn't (not CAN'T, never 'can't,') complain most of the time, but this year....

This year.

I was registered on time. I've been following things, planning to cast my own vote (the 'Deez Nutz' ticket, if anyone's curious.) But when it came down to actually going today, seeing every single Trump sign up and down the roads, knowing just how the ticket would fall regardless of whatever I did.

Call me a coward, but I stayed home.

I couldn't really see a niche for this. But I'm not sure about most people. But, I'll be pleased when this is all over. Luckily living in the UK I've not had the same problem as most of my Countrymen. My Mother-In-Law bless her, I so love that lady. Said well thankfully it doesn't really concern us meaning Brits. But like I said well as our closest ally, I don't care what anyone thinks, we are close allies. It means a great deal to the UK who wins.

Rachel Torres series

Given the very tepid response to my most recent story in the Rachel Torres series I think I'm going to cease writing on that one. I write for my pleasure but also for the pleasure of the readers here and if I don't get any feedback and very little response in the way of views than I see no reason in continuing. I've noticed that the number of views I get for every new chapter of something drops rather sharply so it's time for me to think hard about continuing at all.

Congrats!

When I wrote my first blog entry, I went into it with the thought I would speak about three things. As time has gone on, I realized I haven’t done any of it. The first thing I was going to do was talk about my stories. For some reason my ego stops me from doing that. I don’t want to sound like I am bragging about my story,so I kind of shelved that idea. I will answer any questions that people have, but I don’t want to blow my own horn. The closest I have come to this is the mini story I added the other day as a companion piece to Alexa.

Beta Readers

I've just completed a draft of a new story for Hatbox called "Aunt T's" and need beta readers.

The story involves the semi forced feminization of a late thirties male.

I need an unsullied eye to find those inconsistencies that invariably happen.

I don't get any of the Hatbox revenue . . . so consider any help you give me an ultimate gift to Erin. Hatbox usually attracts more subscriptions when new material is offered.

This story is a bit dark . . . but travels toward the sun.

Hi all,

some of you may have read a little deeper into some of my outpourings and recognised that I am often driven by music. Not that EVERY lyric in all the songs is appropriate, but I get a lot of inspiration and indeed a certain amount of soul-ease from songs.

This blog even has an appropriate message in song, so I will open with this one ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIL8PxLmjm4 (which is an appropriate entry for the title of this blog) ... and close with another!

Acronymonius or apropos of nothing

In this age of Twitter and texting everything seems to get reduced to a few short letters or worse, an emoji. The beauty of words gets lost when reduced to a few short letters.

I am sure that it lends a certain verisimilitude to a story to drop in the current vernacular of acronyms but somehow LOL does not carry the same impact as imagining someone actually laughing out loud. In this attention deficit designed world I am sure there are many who assign their own meanings to common acronyms thus widening the breach of understanding rather than narrowing it.

I just wrote a six paragraph comment, took me a good 15-20 minutes and several tissues. Rechecked and ready to go, I hit Preview. What I got back was that damn 503 error. When everything came back it goes without saying (but I'm going to) my piece was gone. As I wrote it from the heart and in the right mood I know I won't be able to rewrite it.

It was just after midnight CST, and if my memory serves me correctly it happened at about the same time a couple of days ago.
Is there a set time for this to happen?

Sometimes "Just Do It" Isn't Enough

I am SO. FREAKING. BEHIND.

I think everyone here's seen just how dead my writing, or even reading on the site has been of late. I could make excuses, but there's really only one reason behind it all: I just can't seem to make myself do it.

PFH? 1/3 done. Phoenix Soars? 2/3. I have various other projects hovering between 1/4 and 3/4 done, and plans for oh so many more, but it seems like if I manage 500 words in a month any more I've pushed myself hard. It's just... ugh.

Does anyone know of a few good long stories to get lost in?

I love science fiction and fantasy and can get lost in stories for days if they are good enough, but I have been having trouble finding another book. The last long story I read was Somewhere Else Entirely, but since then, I've been going from novel to novel about once a day. It's certainly a craving of mine and one I happily submit to.

Do any of you have books that you get lost in for days on end or know of novels that are of that length?

Not sure how other writers intertwine imagination, real life events, and images to fill in their stories. Unless I am writing about things in the future, I use things I have done, seen, or have seen others do as I write. Fiction and life mixed well until it blends into a story.

That said, here are some mental images to add to the writers imagination.

The long or short change

Question.

Do people have a preference for how soon a gender change occurs in a story especially if it is a long story?

I'm curious because I have stories where the gender change occurs quickly, and ones where it's not until almost the end that it takes place. I myself don't have a preference. Since I was thinking about how I feel about it, I started to wonder what other peeps prefer or think on this subject.

Sorry!

I've written a few bedtime stories for my kids probably pretty much like all parents. My eldest son was my biggest challenge and is pretty much the reason that I did this. I went inside, and a guy standing at the sink said, "Ma'am, I think you're in the wrong bathroom."

I turned interesting shades of red, retreated, and checked my cart again while waiting for the bathroom to be clear.

One of my favourite characters is a deep, loving man of fierce protectiveness and uncommon good sense. His name is Arwel Powell, and one of the best descriptions of him is as an iceberg, showing very little of the depth of his personality on the surface. Well I have been friends with a person that actually does work for MicroSoft in Seattle and verified that the callers are scammers. Now I do all I can to frustrate them on the phone. For those of you who even care to read these blogs then watch and read as I explain what has happened over the last month and why I haven't been around as much as I'd like to be.

To start I guess I should mention a few things. First I was diagnosed with Parkinson's about a month ago. Secondly i'm mute(not deaf there is a difference) which means I can't talk. I lost my means of talking at 12 years old. This has been eating me up for a while and it drove me to the brink of suicide. It took a fellow BC'er talking me out of it to come to my senses.

A superhero's costume is altered by an evil tailor.
A crossdresser's wish comes true in an unexpected way.
Two people dress as each other for Halloween.
A character in a long running soap opera comes to life.
A special Halloween costume shop is run by an old guy in a bathrobe.

Middle East War Years

I've been thinking about a chapter of the Hala Story that deals with very cynical account of the years from 2020 though about 2050. One of my protagonists would be involved in more war in Syria, Iraq, and Turkey with Daesh and finally the Russians. Thank God the US runs out of money to prosecute this war.

Not really sure I even want to write this chapter because I think there are enough Vets on this site that it would just traumatize them. Maybe all this can be handled in a paragraph or two. There is no glory in war.

Sometimes, I don't make the best choices.

Like today, after the church service, our "Affirm" group was showing a video on hate crimes and interviews with the guys who committed them explaining why they did it.

I should probably have known it would be too much for me, but I was curious, so I stayed to watch.

Yeah, that didn't go so well.

I lasted less than halfway through before I had to go and sit outside.

Fortunately, I have wonderful people at my church, and so I got several hugs and prayers to help stabilize me so I could drive home.
