I’ve got quarantine fever......

Well, luckily, I don’t really have a fever - just a case of cabin fever, so to speak.

So both of my sons have been through a two or three day cycle of low grade fever - around 100.3F for both of them. But both are back to normal now, and feeling better. The youngest, who started first is doing really well. His brother, my oldest, is about two days behind him and says he is still feeling a little run down.

Who's Your Data?

I’m a prisoner in my home with time on my hands.

Over the years, I’ve made the statement many times that there is very little correlation between the quality of writing and the number of hits, quotes, and kudos.

To test this -- I took the last ten stories I’ve posted on BC. . .that still are posted as free stories and listed them in order of the best to worst. They’re my stories, I can do that. Unlike kids, having a favorite story is allowed.

dysphoria dream

So last night I dreamed I was at a church function. I was upstairs, cleaning up a bunch of toy trucks, and then went downstairs to see that all the girls had turned the dining area into a fancy tea party. My dysphoria hit me like a physical blow, and I dumped my load of toy trucks on a counter and staggered back upstairs. I woke weeping.

'First Day' Australian tv program

Any Australian readers might be interested in a four-part tv program on ABC Me, yes that's the children's channel, at 4.30pm, Monday 30th March through to Thursday 2nd April in 30 minute episodes. It's about a young trans girl starting high school and doing her best to fit it and not stand out. Despite being told the school is inclusive, she had to use the sick room toilets since parents of other girls mightn't like her using the girls' ones. I'm guessing that might be just one of her problems. The lead character is played by a transgender girl.

Free books (not TG)

An author I follow elsewhere is offering some of his books for free. His books are usually based around the main char having some sort of super power either in this world or an alternate universe. The author is PS Power. You can find details of his books on Amazon.

To go on a list to get the books:
email me at [email protected] and I will manually add you to the list. That will get you a copy of new books, short stories, pen name books as they come out, and any back list book that I fix with a new edit.

Movies released around the time of CV to pass self-isolation. Recommendations.

As Emma released in theaters around my area a week or two before CV lockdown it hit VOD almost immediately. This was a wonderful Romantic Comedy which I enjoyed thoroughly with Anya Taylor Joy as the title character being a delight. Every other character fell into place almost perfectly, especially Mr.Knightly with a look of scruffy hansomeness which endears one to him. An incredible set design displays a melange of pastels with impeccable colonial houses that are surely aged but look brand new. The costumes present a sumptuous feast for the eyes.

Scientific Consensus aka Head Chopped Off

The latest about experts, "experts", and talking heads leads me to risk having my head chopped off again, about scientific consensus.

Specifically, I refer to the consensus of scientists working in the subject matter at hand. Consensus means at least 90% agreement -- not mere majority agreement, and especially not "majority rules". 90% agreement, maybe more. (There are always, for various reasons, holdouts.)

Nez Perce care

I've followed "Trials and Tribulations of a Girl" for quite a while. A while back, I was talking with the wife of a Nez Perce Native who works here in Portland. I mentioned to her that I'd been doing research on my own Heritage and think it is Apache, or Navajo, but could be Cherokee. Oklahoma where my GrandParents were from, has 39 different Native American groups in it. My Spirit favors Navajo, but none of us know for sure. I told her that I thought I was Two Spirit and when she talked to her husband, he told her that I would be seen as totally normal in Nez Perce culture.

Author MIA somewhere?

Yesterday under the random solo list, a story by Randalynn appeared that I didn't remember reading, so I went ahead and read it. Once I started reading, I recognized most of the characters and had read some or most the stories they were in.
The question is; "Where is Randalynn"? It has been a while, literally months since the last post and longer since a new story part. I ask because I enjoyed the stories.

Progress Blog - Just started Charlie's Trails - a sequel to Charlie's Twist

Okay, I've not done this before, but I thought I'd while away the time and start a new book and keep a log of progress as I started.
This is day one and I started one hour ago @ 12:45 GMT .... I am now up to 2228 words.

The Book is called Charlie's Trials and is Book 2 in the Limbo Series.

Going on from the blog entry by Melanie yesterday about keeping up with the news trends and the dreaded Virus, I thought I'd write something wholly contemporary and include everything that is happening in the news.

Why bother?

I keep several short stories going so I have something to turn to when I need a break from working on a book. I was working on such a story this evening when a depressing thought struck me. The world these stories take place in no longer exists. And I'm not sure if it comes back. Most of my stories take place in the "now". But the "now" in the stories I've started, including the book I'm working on is no longer reality. So why am I bothering?

Is the Ratio of Readers to Authors Unbalanced?

We might be living in the Golden Age of Authors on BC.

But - do we have enough readers?

And - what percentage of readers are total takers, downloading the stories with no intent of ever commenting or leaving a kudos?

There has NEVER been a high correlation between the number of kudos and comments and the quality of a story. That said. . .there have been some mighty fine stories posted lately that have gone relatively unnoticed. And - it seems to me the number of hits for stories seems to have gone down lately as well.

I will be posting the latest Chapter of You are a Meany tomorrow. I did not have time to write because I was studying for taking the Life in The UK test. I was scheduled to take it this past Saturday but it got postponed. It did get reschedule for the middle of April. Now I have to call the Home Office to see what to do about my visa. I need to take the test to submit my paperwork. I was actually happy. After taking the test the only thing I would have had to do was to hit send on my visa application then wait for the Home Office to tell me to get my new biometrics card.

Boris Johnson announced this evening that the UK is in lockdown with immediate effect. I was due to move house on Thursday. Everything is in boxes. It looks like I'm going to have to stay here and pay for a house 50 miles away as well with no prospect of selling this house.
Plus, local Government in the UK charges double on empty properties.

So, my 25 year old son - our youngest - starting running a fever of 100.3 last night. It’s just a low grade fever, plus he is achey and tired, but he definitely is sick. Now it could be Covid-19, or it could be the flu, or something else. We had to call it in to Public Health, but all we can do is feed him Tylenol (Paracetamol for those of you across the pond), force fluids, feed him, and keep him warm.

World circumstances require us to hunker down, self quarantine, social distance, etc.

With that in mind there's a few things we can do at home to pass the time. I've been viewing a pair of Bald Eagles in So. California. Their nest overlooks Big Bear Lake, CA and makes for a pleasant 'screen saver' when they are not in their nest.

One of the site moderators has created virtual jig saw puzzles. Very pleasant and children can play too. Here's the puzzle link:

Missing text in Antonette's Story

It was kindly brought to my attention by the Cropredy Kid that there seemed to be something missing in Chapter 1 of 'Antonette's Story' and to my surprise and chagrin, I discovered that quite a bit of text at the end of the chapter wasn't there, although I distinctly remember writing it. I have now written it again and inserted it in the last part of the chapter. I hope that makes Chapter 2 have more sense.

Dot the movie star?

So last night I dreamed a pretty interesting dream. It started with me seemingly on board a space station desperately trying to prevent an explosion that would kill everyone on board. But then I was sitting in a movie theater, watching me save the day. I left the theater, and encountered a small girl dressed as my character. She recognized me, and I gave her an autograph.

Kinda neat, no?

I am going to be publishing some of my stories and was wondering about book covers. So far I have been using pictures that I have found on unsplash and I have been pretty happy with them, but, if it wasn't too expensive I thought it might look even better with someone who was more artistic designing them. So... does anyone know how much that costs and who would be a good collaborator?

Tommy and the Coronavirus (COVID-19)

With almost everything from the schools to the colleges to the bars to the sit-down restaurants in this state, Ohio, being shut down, the grandkids will be here a lot. This may slow down publishing new chapters of 'Tommy - The Trials and Tribulations of a Girl?' a little bit. Hopefully, the schools will only be closed for three weeks and the rest of the school year.

There will be chapters of Tommy, but with two pre-teens in the house, it's hard to work on things.

Just wondering what makes the music business such a fertile field for the authors here when it comes to young prodigies.

This blog is based entirely on my memory, which is fallible, and I have certainly missed many stories. However, my impression is that the frequency of stories about a young M2F person making a splash in music as a performer is much higher than other fields with the possible exception of modelling.

There isn't really any huge changes, just fixing typos and changing it to books of a series called the Huntress chronicles, also changed the name of the first chapter to Mother knows best. Because I really liked the name of "To save a monster" as the name of the whole first book.

Again, you do NOT need to reread anything, it's just some cosmetic changes, I am still working on the next book's chapter, I hope to be finished with it before may but I might be finished before that. I'm so glad all of you could enjoy this bizarre journey with me. I hope you enjoy what's coming next.

writing what you don't know

They say to write about what you know. Just as important is not to write about what you are completely ignorant of. Do some research or look like a total idiot. This was triggered by a description of rabbit hunting in a story not on this site. The protagonist was hunting rabbits over bait from a blind with a shotgun. When a rabbit came in sight he carefully waited to take a clean shot when the rabbit was fully enguaged with the carrot. If this doesn't have you rolling on the floor laughing you have never been a hunter and know nothing of rabbits.

So far, I am "well" for me. I am COPD, and a bunch of stuff. I have good inhalers and use them. I live very close to two Hospitals and have been self isolating for over a week. Please be careful. I love you all.

WHY ARE YOU WRITING?

I'm not sure how many authors were writing to BCTS twenty years ago (yr 2000). Can't even guess how many are here now. What I can observe is there are a whole passel of new authors posting stories. That said, let me say this one more time as I have explained many times before. If you are writing strictly for the knudos and comments, I wish you lots of luck. You are more than likely going to be disappointed. Trying to drive this home to you authors is like giving advice on how to drive to someone who has been driving for years. It doesn't register.

1250!

As I write this, my latest story, "Family Jewels" has 1250 reads and 81 kudos.

And not a single comment.

I know that I've ranted about this before but COME ON!

I'm grateful for the kudos, but WHY aren't there any comments? Weren't any of those 1250 readers moved enough by the story to say something about it?

Even something negative.

I don't appreciate comments that say "Your story stank." No writer does. And, truth to tell, comments where the person seems to take delight in pointing out typos are no fun either.
