Wow, been a while.

To those it may concern:

Well, first of all, thanks for reading this. As you know, I haven't published anything since the tail end of January. I know, I had a good turn going. Well, as things do on occasion, everything came to a screeching halt. I haven't touched ChangeDay: Advent since then, nor my more acclaimed Dream Come True. Of course, this is not because I didn't want to or that writer's block caught me.

I never got to know this guy very well when I was at college, but he was a well-loved figure on campus, even for those of us who weren't religious. Now he's gone we're all poorer for his passing. Would that everyone in various churches was as tolerant and giving.

Here's a lovely interview from a few years back. One of Stephen Colbert's finer moments, and that's saying something.

A bit confused Re U.S school system.

I am currently reading a most enjoyable series where the protagonist is in seventh grade.

As a Brit I have not grasped the age of this pupil (student?)

In Britain we start school at the age of five and attend "primary one. WE stay in primary school up to primary seven when at the age of twelve we move on to secondary school. (The big school) This is where we proceed through secondary one to secondary four where we leave at sixteen. There is an option to stay on for an extra two years i.e until the age of eighteen but it is not mandatory.

well, i was rather stupid. I have been fighting tooth pain the last couple of days, and i had the chance to go to see a dentist today, and didn't take it. Equality assessment

To state 'the bleeding obvious', I am not going to discuss my employment in detail here, so please think before you reply to this. I have an issue at work regarding what is called an equality assessment. Under UK law, changes in working practices or conditions require an equality impact assessment. This is ostensibly a way of seeing whether a change adversely affects a particular group, such as the disabled, married folk, or TLGB (MY turn to choose the order of the initials)

In fact, it's kind of the opposite. I just scrolled down my "My Stories" page and near the bottom is a page that has suddenly over 50 daily hits. That's not bad for something a month old. But this is something 3 years, 4 months, 1 week, and 3 days old. Wow.

Apparently, there's been a recent interest in my poetry today. Thank you, folks!

How much research?

Hiya,

I was wondering how many of you do research for your stories? How much research do you generally do when putting details into your stories? I do research for details I add to my stories, like street names, notable places in the locales my characters are in, etc. Do you do this, or do you work around these type of details?

thanks,

BigCloset Drupal 6 Upgrade

Well, it's becoming more and more obvious that we need to upgrade to Drupal 6. We've got several Drupal 6 sites now running, Stardust is on 6. So, it's time to upgrade TopShelf.

We're going to do a dummy version first, probably this week and then later, in a week or a month when we're convinced it's going to work, take BCTS down while we do the conversion on live data.

XOOM ! Any comments?

Well, with my laptop in the pit, I have been thinking about alternatives, and then today I saw Steve Jobes speaking about the new Ipad. $499 opened my ears a little. It'll have Wifi and Cell Network internet available. So, completely ignoring the fact that the release date is the 11th I went looking for one to ask questions. Did you know that Verizon is selling the Ipad? Well, I went into the store and started asking all sorts of laptop questions, and then the people there said, "Let's talk about the XOOM?"

I Just Read An Article on MSNBC.com

I just read an article about how more and more companies are offering SRS and Breast Augmentation for Transsexual employees in their Health Insurance plans. It talked about Wells Fargo Bank, Coca Cola,AT&T, New York Life, and others are offering SRS as a means to promote tolerance and diversity. I left a comment on the article, but I can tell you that it definitely brought out the bigots in full force on the comments page. Most of them, had absolutely no experience with the issue and spouted off from their own point of view.

Of rings, and things

So, I was looking at rings on the internet, trying to find the perfect one for Madam Zeela to make for Gretchen.

It's not exactly what I was envisioning (which was something closer to http://tinyurl.com/4g98447) but I fell in love with the following one, and want to get everyone's opinion.

http://tinyurl.com/45gytys.

Or, do you have a preference of your own?

Zeela does not want to go with a traditional diamond setting, and has a "large stone" that she wants to use.

Anyway, as always, your input is appreciated :)

With the advent of the first BC V-1 a thought occurs. Recently, I have been working with an author on a re-write and an issue arose regarding comma use.

I had recommended the grammatical use of the comma in a specific application. The author used the comma as a pause indicator in dialog. When I responded to the author, I brought out the issue, but left the final decision on usage to him.

Are there standards for commenting on BigCloset?

More or less. Reparable things like typos, punctuation errors, typography, or presentation errors (spacing, non-appearance of images, etc.) should not be mentioned in public comments because that would necessitate an admin removing the comment after the fault is fixed. You wouldn't paint a sign on the forehead of someone's baby saying, "Stinky diaper!" when a whispered word to a caregiver would be much more appreciated.

The April 2nd BCTS Get Together is coming

I'm still working on options for bad weather, but somehow or another we're going to make it work out.

If nothing else, we may have a couple of tents to go over the tables at the park. They still need to be checked out. But hopefully we will not have to worry about them.

I'm still looking for a place we can go indoors if we have to. The place I thought of first, does not have a separate room we can use, but I haven't put on a full court press yet.

The workflow will be nomination, choices and priorities, permission, conference with author, editing revisions, approval from author, final edit, proofing, layout, final approvals.

Stories that get hung up in the process will probably be allowed to slip to the next volume. We now have about 150 stories nominated, though some of them are too long. At any rate, we have no dearth of stories to go into Volume 1. :)

Last night we were fortunate enough to view The King's Speech. What performances by Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush! Even though I live across the pond, I was familiar with some of the acrimony between Elizabeth II's mother, and Edward and Wallis Simpson. I know that it carried over to the Queen. Neither of the brother's wanted to be king. Many say that The Queen Mother blamed Edward for George's early death. The fact that he was addicted to cigarettes certainly contributed to that. I don't think I was aware of George VI's speech impediment.

Email notifactions for Private Messages?

Once upon a time, when I received a PM on the site, I got an email to notify me of the message. Now adays, I get a notification when I'm logged in, but not in my email.

Not complaining, just kinda wondering... I get way too much email as it is...
