Pleased with myself...but

Today I went shopping at Target (one of the chain stores in Australia). The thing is that I only recently gave myself the go ahead to crossdress. Even if it has mostly been at home (I live on my own). The only time I went into the city with womens clothes was on halloween, and even then some guy on the train did a double take when seeing me - this sort of freaked me out - I'm really worried about being seen in public.

Just wondering here.

There is fine story by Danielle J titled Duty,Honor, Country, Family that isn't getting any comments. I can tell from the votes that people are reading it. I know it's complex and difficult to comment on, but is it that hard to just leave an "I like it." for Danielle on this one?

The story is well worth the time to read.

I've noticed that different stories appear differently on my cellphone. Just for the record: I have an LG Quantum (just released with Windows Mobile 7). I'll use two examples that are currently on the BC front page: "A Fortuitous Adventure: or, how I got my first job" by Louise Anne and "The Experiment: Part 10" by Donjo. Please note, I'm not singling out these two stories for any reason other than I looked at them on my smartphone.

Out of the Mouth of My Son

I blithely expected my kids to be accepting when I told them I was transgendered; after all, I'd modeled acceptance to them all their lives. So telling them would be a piece of cake! Right??

Wrong

My oldest told my wife the only reason he didn't yell at me when I told him was because we were traveling down the freeway at 75 MPH in a driving rain and I was practically comatose huddled against the door.

My middle son said nothing. Of course that means little since he normally says almost nothing.

I could not have scripted a better day than today.

My nephews and niece showed promptly at our agreed time, saw me for the first time as Cathy... and embraced me and told me they love me and accept me!

We went out and ate, re-hashed old times, insulted one another.. good naturedly of course, and just had a wonderful time. They all knew about my transition before this, but had never actually seen Cathy. Now they have, and I have regained some of my family. I had the chance to explain why I am changing, in a way they understood and accepted. THIS is the best Christmas present I could EVER have gotten, and I am so thankful.

Well, not the Christmas I might have hoped for!

Christmas was very confusing for me. My Dad's oldest sister, the one who held everyone together, passed away after a long illness. In reality, I guess she had been gone for some time, but her actual death was Christmas morning. Was it a good or a bad thing? I'm really not sure, but I'll miss her.
The rest of Christmas went well, I spent the day with the part of my family that doesn't know about Wren, and still sees me as Bear. I'd like to tell them about my writing, but they don't know I do this at all, and I don't know how to tell them. Once again, very confusing.

Les Miserables - 25th anniversary tour

I know this has nothing to do with tg topics, but I wanted to share this any way.

Last Wed night, my parents, my wife, my son and I went to see the new production of Les Miserables, it is currently at the Papermill Playhouse in Millburn, NJ thru this next week, and then continuing on tour thru the US. I believe the next stop is in Philadelphia.

My son had come to enjoy the music from the 10th anniversary concert, but had never had the opportunity to see the show, he was enthralled, it was great to share this with him.

My Dad

Today I went to see my dad for our annual Christmas get together. He told me when I first started transition, that he loved me no matter what. I just wish he could get it through his head that my name is Jennifer now. He sent me a card for my birthday last month addressed to my old male name. I just pitched it in the garbage can. He did the same thing with the Christmas card he sent me this year too. I did the same thing to that one too. I opened my gift he gave me today and the outside of money card envelop said the same thing.

Well, Christmas turned out ok. My daughter and i made a gingerbread train, she opened every present in the world, and generally turned my house upside down (but in a good way), and then the ex came over and we had a civilized Christmas dinner. All in all, a good Christmas. I hope all of you had good ones as well.

Excellent Film that must be seen by all!!

I just watched 'It's a Boy|Girl Thing' and really loved it. The film is a typical body switch story that we have all read at least one. They hate each other, walk a mile in the other's skin and then fall in love with each other. Kind of typical but the acting is superb. I mean both of the main characters were able to convey the gender switch well, with good body language use. They completely sell the story and that made it a lot of fun to watch.

I am just hoping that I am not using too much hyperboly on this.

I just hung up my phone after making lunch plans with two of my nephews and one niece for tomorrow! None of them have seen me since I began my RLT more than two years ago, and I'm, I think justifiably, nervous. Long tailed cat in a roomful of rocking chairs, anyone?

This might be the beginning of a reconciliation with my family, from whom I have been estranged since I began my RLT. I'm so excited right now I don't know if I'll be able to sleep tonight!

Wish me well?

I don't live in any of the mudslide-threatened areas but there have been evacuations and road closings. True, the writing has slowed down, due to life and such but I am trucking along and have more then enough to keep up with the weekly releases. So enjoy the extra chapter and have a great Holiday!!

Then, without trying to, I lost 10 pounds by US Thanksgiving Day, Nov 23.

That is when I really began feeling bad. My Thanksgiving meals consisted of a bowl of soup and 2 peanut butter sandwiches.

Lost comments

I know writers love to have their stories noticed and a comment is perhaps the most appreciated. This isn't a plea for more comments rather a plea for those so carefully written missives to find their way onto the list.

Just recently I've made some erudite(?) comment and found, to my surprise, it wasn't where I expected to find it. At first I thought I'd made some dreadful mistake and Erin had deleted it. Then I realised I'd fallen foul of the double layer posting regimen and clicked off the story without confirming the comment preview.

Is there a way to have the author pages list just stand alone stories and title pages for serials? For instance, my author page would have a link to the title page for 'My Mistake', as well as a link to the title page of the drabbles that I've written called 'Lost Luggage'. I think that might give a cleaner appearance...

thankful at Christmas

Well, I would like to take a break from my regularly scheduled whining and remember all the gifts i have been given this Christmas. These are in no particular order, but here goes:

1: my home. In a time when far too many have none, i have a safe, warm bed, a fridge full of food, lights, TV, internet, and i can dress how i please in it

2: My mom. Her acceptance of me as Dorothy has simply amazed me, and gives me such comfort when i am struggling.

3: My daughter. I love that bundle of energy more than i thought i could love anyone, and i know she feels the same about me.

Good News and Bad News

The good news is that after 19 months of unemployment I finally got a job. Just in time for Christmas, too. It's a research lab doing some very interesting work and my co-workers seem to be a great bunch of people. The pay is even almost the same as the last good job I had. Another plus is that bluejeans are the shop uniform. Not as good as dressing up but a lot better than many places I've worked.

The bad news is that I have had to give up my mornings reading the stories here at BC. Oh well, only 4 more years until I retire and can take up my reading habit again.

Capitalization and Titles

Properly capitalization in the title box really isn't that hard. In most browsers, if you just start typing the new title, it will fill in the most recent one, then you backspace over the number and retype that and the title is correct. But there have been a lot of misspelled, misspaced and miscapitalized titles lately. They look bad on the story and they look bad on the site. Sometimes titles are in ALL CAPS and if they are more than one short word long, I feel that should be fixed, too.

How should I deal with this:

well, the latest piece i produced was by far both the easiest and the hardest. The hardest, because it is NASTY. Despite having no sex, no violence, and no swear words, it is a very, very, hard read. I was a wreck this morning, cried until i could produce no more tears, and then went to work feeling like i was on the brink. Halfway though my shift, this piece started coming, and when i got home, i just had to write it out and exorcise my demons that way. And that's why it was also the easiest to write, it just flowed so fast, i had it done in under 2 hours.

I just thought it would be helpful to talk to some of the newcomers about my point of view in writing. Yes, I am Muslim, and was fairly heavily emersed in that culture until just recently. Why does my story appear blank even though there are thousands of words?

You need blank lines between paragraphs, not just cause it looks better but because of how the internal Drupal parser works. Without line breaks, the parser tries to process the entire post as one single paragraph, runs out of memory and fails. It should give an error message but mostly, it doesn't.

So, please, blank lines between paragraphs for anything longer than about 2000 words.

Bob & Barbara's Drag Show

The TV set in our bedroom died the other night, so I popped out to the local big-box appliance store to grab a new set. Setting it up required rescanning the channel spectrum. I guess I should mention that we don't have cable. Well, along with the other 40-something channels we get, a new one popped up, a noncommercial one that carries and promotes high-quality community access and educational content, most of which is in the 5-minute length category.

Thanks to all for the success of "Santa School"

Well, as of yesterday, "Santa School" has become my most successful piece to date in terms of comments left, surpassing even "The Dead Kid". Fifteen people have taken the time and effort to say something publicly about it, and that is wonderful, and I wish to thank them, as well as everyone who left a kudo. Regardless of how it does in terms of the Christmas contest, it has been an uplifting experience for me. There is only one fly in the ointment so to speak, however. I showed it to my mom, and she said she found it sad.

Trojans

Help anyone! Last night I got hit with a Trojan named System Tool. It is very nasty! Scotty from here gave me some help sending me Malwarebytes Mbam. However, apparently didn't work as my machine is still messed up. I'm running McAfee AV now, but am not hopeful given some of the forums I've tried. Any advice?

Another below average day, Wednesday's are such a drag -- so to speak :)

We've only had SEVENTEEN stories posted today. What's the matter with you people? :)

For the past month, from November 16 to December 15, we've AVERAGED over 19.5 stories a day.

For the past week, we've averaged almost 17000 visitors a day! For the busiest five hours of the day, we're averaging about 1000 visitors an hour. Sometimes, there are as many as 390 people all visiting a page within the same five minute window!

No wonder the searches were bringing us down!

I am sorry, Angel, and you are right in calling me out.

I would like to issue a public apology to Angel. I sent a personal message to another person here that was inadvertently forwarded to her. It was a criticism that was based on nothing but innuendo and was mean spirited and erroneous to boot. That it was sent by accident doesn't change the fact that it was hypocritical of me. I have preached on numerous occasions to be kind and to build each other up. Because of my words, two people have been hurt. The third party deserves an apology as well, but I won't name her here.
