Since a phone center does not present a visual face to the customer base, and the pay isn't all that great, businesses are often desperate enough for intelligent people with a decent work ethic, that they often overlook considerations that other employers find important.

My SO worked nights for a while at flowers.com, and one of the staff there was a transitioning lady. Unfortunately, over the phone she still sounded quite masculine, so she was required to use her male name when answering. But it was a small price to pay, considering the fact that she was able to pay her bills while pursuring her transition.

She was not well accepted by her co workers, however. So be prepared for a lonely existence, though perhaps you might have better luck on that score.
