II. Lonely Heart

I stayed up half the night trying to figure out what I would say. Melissa was the outgoing one. She would simply walk up to him and just “take him”—envision that how you will. I couldn’t do that. I hadn’t tried since fifth grade and ended up stuttering my way through it all, but recovered as he had gone into a sneezing fit, nearly blacked out and went to the school nurse.

So, we left off with me babysitting my two cousins and my mom telling me she wanted to talk when she came to get me the next morning.

All through that night my mind kept going through things to say and what might happen the next day. I did not get a lot of sleep because of the upcoming event that was about to take place. But even though I knew I was about to get into trouble I still went snooping through my aunt’s dresser that night trying to find a pair of her pantyhose. Unfortunately, I was unable to find any.

When the quarantine started, over ten weeks ago, I began dressing 100% of the time as my alter ego feminine self: ‘Donna’. I’m retired, single, in my mid 60’s, a quarantined crossdresser and I’m bored. “I don't want you to get you haircut,” my mother said. She was suddenly very serious, and I could see that something was wrong. It seemed like fear in her eyes.

“It's just a haircut, Mom,” I said. I was struggling to see what the big issue was. But there was something very wrong. I looked at her in a way that I thought demanded an answer.

“I don’t think I’ve ever heard Patty laughing so hard.

“Well, that settles it,” my mom said grinning at Mrs. Garner.

I’d guessed wrong. I looked at Mrs. Garner and saw she was smiling from ear to ear with a glint in her eyes. Patty was laughing hysterically and Amy was giggling. I looked at my mommy and she was putting away the baby items in what used to be Patty’s diaper bag and I realized with shame that it was now my diaper bag.

I began crying. I’d just agreed to be a baby girl and everyone thought it was my choice.
