Good to see this

I just reread Part 3 and I’m halfway through Part 4.

But I am curious. Did you change the name of the book? The intro teaser in Part 3 shows it as Refiner’s Fire.

Anyway, it’s beautifully written!

The cremation scene really brings back memories. When my wife died a few years ago (stroke, not Covid-19), we arranged a cremation as she had wished. They wanted to pack her up and haul her out right away. But I asked them to leave her overnight.
When things had settled down, I went in the room by myself, closed the door, and sang a few songs to her as I had been doing the previous weeks.
That gave me personal closure.

All the best!

Thanks, Gillian!

It always felt to me like that scene was the emotional heart of the story, especially coupled with the love scene that immediately preceded it. And the music anchored the whole thing. Maybe love and death are the melody and countermelody of our lives . . . .

There’s a funny story about the name change, but it will always be “Refiner’s Fire” in my heart. By whatever name, I’m glad you enjoyed it. :)
