As I am often want to do. It has always been inherent in my civilian career to stay on top of the happenings both domestically and internationally, as everything impacts our supply chains - a fact only those of us who deal with logistics gave thought to prior to the Covid pandemic, but which quickly became evident to others a few years back.
During my daily perusal of the news, I happened upon an article regarding J.D. Vance (JD apparently standing for Junior Donald, as in Trump) giving a news conference in Los Angeles. In this news conference, Vance once again perpetrated the lie that Los Angeles was in chaos, and only Trump’s intercession with the National Guard and Marines had kept the city from burning to the ground - this of course based on repeated looping of the same video of three cars burning over and over again. Vance then referred to a man he knows and has worked with in the Senate, Alex Padilla, as “Jose” Padilla - an obviously bigoted comment from a man who is supposed to represent everyone in this country!
I am reminded of a quote from a letter by John Adams to his wife Abigail written on July 7, 1775. In the letter, Adam’s tells his wife, “Cities may be rebuilt, and a People reduced to Poverty, may acquire fresh Property: But a Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never be restored. Liberty once lost is lost forever. When the People once surrender their share in the Legislature, and their Right of defending the Limitations upon the Government, and of resisting every Encroachment upon them, they can never regain it.”
It took the Nazi’s less than eight weeks to dismantle a Constitutional Government in Germany in 1938. We must resist Trump and his cronies. Stand up and be counted, write your Representatives, write a letter to the editor of your local paper, standup and be counted, protest, march, and for God’s sake VOTE for your rights in the next interim election! We must rid Washington of the scared sycophants who are allowing the injustices Trump and his ilk are perpetrating on us!
