“Are you certain this is the right path?”

Two figures crept down a narrow underground passageway, shoes slipping across shallow puddles lining the curved concrete floor. Their coats, one jet black and the other a lighter brown, flickered in the weak light offered only by a white crystal held forward by the taller and much darker-skinned man.

“They didn’t provide a map, Callas. I told you the same instructions they told me, and your memory is as perfect as mine. If you think we’ve misapplied the sequence, you should’ve spoken up.”

“Hmm.”

Emily couldn’t keep from smiling through most of the morning. The breakfast and the coffee on the bus was such a pleasant surprise for her that it still made her feel a warm and happy feeling inside.

It really sort of took the things she’d been feeling too about Kira and sort of framed them in her head in a new way. She knew that she might be crushing on Kira. But there’s a big difference between knowing that you’re crushing on someone and doing anything about it.

I suppose in those few minutes I managed to learn pretty much everything I wondered about concerning wearing a strapless ball gown. I walked around the house for fifteen minutes to half an hour without my feet, legs, or back bugging me. I actually felt kind of pretty and didn’t have a bit of that undressed feeling I had when I was first trying on the gowns. I began imagining Cathy dressed in a nice party dress, her hair down like mine as we were presented to the maddening throng as Lady Stevens and her daughter Catherine. That brought a smile to my face.

“Oh, I don’t expect you to shoot unless you want to take a gun safety class first,” she said, wrapping her arm around my shoulders. “I just wanted you to come down so you wouldn’t worry about me going all gun crazy or anything. Ow…

I’m getting my thoughts together or trying to after getting whacked by the thingy. I’m a little punch drunk I think and I feel this…

I open my eyes and The tips of it’s tentacles around this nasty looking mouth are glowing purple and I feel it hit me hard…this sensation of all these spikes being driven into my head, into my brain!

I scream and roll around as I’m having the worst migraine attack ever!

I can feel it drilling, pushing and prying into me…

Drilling and trying to get into my mind.
