Origins 5: Bendy and the Ink Machine
Note: this is based on the game “Bendy and the Ink Machine” which is available on steam.
On an Earth much like ours, a man had a dream.
He dreamed of making animated films, and eventually, he made that dream come true.
His name was Joey Drew, and his studio created an animated character who would become an icon around the world - Bendy the dancing demon.
Although the studio soon created other characters that became popular - Alice the Angel, Boris the Wolf, and more - none could quite match Bendy’s grip on the people.
Soon, Joey Drew Studios was not just making cartoons, they were making merchandise - Bendy clocks, Bendy toys, just about anything they could think of.
Then Joey Drew wanted to take the next step, and build a theme park, and hired a man named Bertrum Piedmont to build a small version in the studio basement.
It was probably about this time that an animator named Henry Stein left the studio, frustrated that he was not getting credit for his part in creating Bendy and many of the other characters.
Maybe his leaving triggered something inside of Joey, maybe what happened next was inevitable.
Joey joined with a company called the Gent corporation, to create his newest idea. A live version of Bendy. Not someone in a costume, but Bendy himself, brought into the real world.
He had a device called the Ink Machine built, to create a link between the real world and the world of Bendy’s cartoons.
But something went wrong, and the attempt to bring Bendy to life created a misshapen demon instead.
The Gent corporation told Joey the reason this happened was that the version of Bendy they had created lacked a soul.
So Joey Drew did the most horrible thing possible - he told the Gent corporation to take the souls of his employees to make more characters.
Then he laid a trap for Henry, inviting the former animator to return to the studio, knowing that as soon as he entered, he would be transported to the cartoon world, and be forced to deal with the Bendy demon as well as the other people trapped in that realm.
But Henry is a stubborn man, and won't go down easy . .

Live Bendy
Was live Bendy a form of artificial intelligence? No soul, probably means no actual consciousness -- just a machine, but probably a step up from what AI is today, basically regurgitating what it reads or slurps in.
I've often wondered whether C-3PO and R2-D2 were actually conscious, or was programmed to imitate of conscious very well.

based on the gameplay
Demon Bendy acted like a predator, so some instinct if not actual intelligence.
right now, AI has a lot of Artificial, and not much Intelligence.
thanks for the comment, hon. huggles.
Ima gonna root for Henry!
Frustrated artists gotta stick together!

imagine meeting a creation of yours in person
and they are all like "not to nitpick, but ..."
thanks for the comment, Emma, huggles!
Considering what some of my characters are like ...
No I wouldn't like that.
Most of them are nice people and would probably not have so much to complain about. However, some of them have literally got away with murder.
yeah, I hear you, Bru
I think Fluke would drive me crazy - or more crazy than I already am!

Made me wonder
If I could spend an evening with one of my characters, who would it be? Almost certainly not one of the MC’s; there’s too much of me in most of them. But Janet from MaxWarp, or Holweard from Strange Manors . . . yeah, they would be fun!

Rasa woudl be "interesting"
but I'd make sure to have protection.
I thought, “well, sure.”
But then I thought, “oh you mean THAT kind of protection!” ;-)

I Thought I Saw
Bob Hoskins cavorting with Jessica Rabbit, but I could be wrong.
I would have liked to spend time with my character Pete from 'All In A Day's Work' who was a thin disguise for Alison Mary.
cool, hon
