Origins #5: Bendy and the Ink Machine

Origins 5: Bendy and the Ink Machine

Note: this is based on the game “Bendy and the Ink Machine” which is available on steam.

On an Earth much like ours, a man had a dream.

He dreamed of making animated films, and eventually, he made that dream come true.

His name was Joey Drew, and his studio created an animated character who would become an icon around the world - Bendy the dancing demon.

Although the studio soon created other characters that became popular - Alice the Angel, Boris the Wolf, and more - none could quite match Bendy’s grip on the people.

Soon, Joey Drew Studios was not just making cartoons, they were making merchandise - Bendy clocks, Bendy toys, just about anything they could think of.

Then Joey Drew wanted to take the next step, and build a theme park, and hired a man named Bertrum Piedmont to build a small version in the studio basement.

It was probably about this time that an animator named Henry Stein left the studio, frustrated that he was not getting credit for his part in creating Bendy and many of the other characters.

Maybe his leaving triggered something inside of Joey, maybe what happened next was inevitable.

Joey joined with a company called the Gent corporation, to create his newest idea. A live version of Bendy. Not someone in a costume, but Bendy himself, brought into the real world.

He had a device called the Ink Machine built, to create a link between the real world and the world of Bendy’s cartoons.

But something went wrong, and the attempt to bring Bendy to life created a misshapen demon instead.

The Gent corporation told Joey the reason this happened was that the version of Bendy they had created lacked a soul.

So Joey Drew did the most horrible thing possible - he told the Gent corporation to take the souls of his employees to make more characters.

Then he laid a trap for Henry, inviting the former animator to return to the studio, knowing that as soon as he entered, he would be transported to the cartoon world, and be forced to deal with the Bendy demon as well as the other people trapped in that realm.

But Henry is a stubborn man, and won't go down easy . .
