Transformation Conversation

Author’s note. You may notice some similarities between this story and a story that was recently republished. What follows is not in any way intended as a criticism of that story, but just what I think I would do in that situation.

I stood before two women, newly transformed into one myself, and I had to acknowledge two truths.

Magic was real - there was no other way to explain my transformation, and secondly, my spirit, my soul, my sense of self had always been female - there was no other way to explain my happiness, my sense of “rightness”, my joy in my new form.

But there was something else the two women had told me that was nagging at me, and although I was nervous, I had to bring it up.

“I’m very grateful for what you’ve done for me. But, at the risk of sounding greedy, I do have a request.”

“What is it?”

“My ex. You said she had a male spirit. Please fix her. Give her the same gift you have given me.”

“But she was so cruel to you!” The younger woman exclaimed.

“Yes, but how much of that was because of her unhappiness in her gender? And she must have sensed my own struggles with my gender, and that must have seemed to her like I was rejecting the very thing she wanted most in life - to be a man.”

There was a long pause, then the older woman said, “You pass the test.”

“Test?” I asked.

“By transforming you, in a sense we became responsible for you. And we wanted to be sure that the person you had become. You have rewarded our faith, by showing compassion. It shall be done.”

I smiled, and said, “Thank you.”

“Now, I can go on with my new life.”

End.
