I noticed Sean’s clothes a little near the end of our fifth grade year. On weekends he’d come over to my house wearing shirts I’d see his seventh grade sister wearing the year before and shorts; I know I had seen similar shorts on girls.

And he works for the Cartel. You can be sure he won't be the only metahuman to go bad." "And what will you do after that?" "I'll go after the Carpaci family. With me dead, the D.A.'s whole case falls apart. They'll be rubbing his nose in it."

Chapter 12

It’s a long night. Taylor’s attack went on and lasted most of the night. He either passed out from the pain of it all or it finally let him go. He slowly began to untense and unwind about 3:40 AM, we’d gone to bed about 10 so that was almost six hours of holding him and being only able to offer him my small comforts as I held him and watched as he went through hell.

I learned a hard lesson tonight. I learned what it’s like to watch somebody you love more than breathing go through something like this and not being able to do anything about it.

Gunfire was almost constant as I stared down the hall I knew held a very powerful Telepath though I still wasn’t able to see him and chewed on ideas to make things more difficult for him.

CHAPTER 15

The pod door swinging open caused me to open my eyes. Linda was smiling down at me.

“Feeling better, Mary?”

I sat up and noticed that my injuries from that beating Karen gave me seemed to have pretty much healed. The pod was a good medical unit.

“Yes, much. Where are we?”

Linda laughed.

“You are not going to believe it. We just landed outside Basteria.”

My eyes opened wide.
