thanks, but no thanks

thanks, but no thanks.
i need no validation from you
i know who i am
i've known all along
so I get to decide what is true...

about me.

thanks, but no thanks.
i'm not asking for your opinion
i know who i am
i know that i'm real
and i don't live in your dominion...

not me.

thanks, but no thanks.
i'm real, i'm not a pretender
i know who i am
i've known all along
and i won't let you define my gender

i'm me.

thanks, but no thanks
please stop telling me you accept me
the more that you do
the less that it means
and it sounds more like you disrepect me...

yes, me.

thanks, but no thanks.
your words have lost all their meaning
you hear what you want
despite what I say
and when you speak it feels quite demeaning

to me.

thanks, but no thanks
please don't presume to define what I say
I can speak for myself
to convey what I believe
so please just turn and walk away...

from me

So poetic.

ALISON

As i read through this, one thought came to my mind------how I would have loved to
hear the late (and great) Sir Noel Coward reciting your poem.He would have really
brought out the strength and majesty of your words, and he would have enjoyed
doing it with the panache and style that you and he share.

Morning Mom...Morning Gram...

There is nothing worse than being pigeon holed by people who barely know who they are. The only validation we truly need is our own. Drea...you score a major league hit yet once again.

Ouch! Double Ouch!

Snicker! Snicker! Need I say more?

Won't work of course,

Hugs,

Thanks and thanks again

I can't remember how many times I felt this way. As if I couldn't get by without someone telling me that I was okay by them. Once is good, twice likely very good, but after a while it was like they were telling me "never mind that your family thinks you're a freak since I accept you." I appreciate a person trying to be kind but nothing will take away the pain of my family no longer loving me, no matter how well intended. Belle

Consider the Source

When the source is a jackass, there is no affirmation. When the source is a fool, what validation can he bring to the conversation?

When the source is respected, someone you love, a person you trust . . . the opinion means everything.

I keep thinking of the theme song for Mr. Ed.

An ass is an ass, I pass, I pass.
No one can listen to an ass, I pass. . . .

You do this so much better than I can, so I'm sure you get the idea.

I'm reminded of the Lincoln quote "When you wrestle with a pig you both get dirty - but the pig likes it."

There is also the possibility that yet another Tranny has walked away from a relationship.

I believe that was Robert A Heinlein, in "Time Enough for Love".

Heinlein was probably quoting

Either G.B. Shaw or Cyrus Ching, apparently both said something like it; Shaw in reference to arguing with critics and Ching in reference to labor negotiations. Maybe they both had an older source.

Ching and Shaw

Out of interest I looked it up, to read the following acerbic quote:

"The place of origin is known - Ireland. Just because something was not said first in America does not mean it does not have an origin."

thanks for this

This is the poem of a strong person, secure in themselves. Maybe one day it will be one I can say ....

Thank you, 'Drea.

great idea Alison

Alison's right! I couldn't agree more... in fact, there's a whole world of voices out there that could be asked to read for us, your works, Andrea! G x
