… Tonight, you're mine completely
You give your love so sweetly
Tonight, the light of love is in your eyes
But will you love me tomorrow?
“Janey? Is there…What…” Cal stammered as he looked at his wife with pleading eyes. Of course something was off. After reveling each other’s arms for a seemingly endless time, Janey had turned away. Her sobs belied the previous hour; leaving Cal lost in the moment. She sat up and turned back to face him.
“I’ve been so afraid of losing you, Cal.”
“But…. You know…you know I love you.” Cal said. He went to embrace her, but her arms stiffened against him.
“Cal? I know that she loves me…” Janey pointed to their reflection in the mirror over the dresser across from the bed. Two distraught if attractive women in their thirties sat side by side.
“I don’t understand, Janey.” Cal went to embrace her and she relented; her face only slightly turned away.
“I know she loves me.” Janey pointed to Cal’s reflection. I know and I love her for that. But will he go away? Will he still love me tomorrow?” Janey used her open hand to point once again at Cal’s reflection.
“We…I’m the same person I’ve always been.” Cal let out a long sigh.
“Don’t you start with that, Cal. You’re not the only one in this equation. If you’re frustrated, how do you think I feel?” She pointed to her own reflection; her image revealing more than just a bit of hurt.
“We have a daughter who looks up to him…to her Dad.” Janey shook her head.
“I have a nephew who adores his uncle. You have a mother who loves her only son.”
“I…I can’t be those people any longer.” Cal sighed; his expression looked scared. It was as if by merely acknowledging that part of him, whomever else he was inside would be once again relegated to darkness. Janey turned and touched his cheek gently.
… Is this a lasting treasure
Or just a moment's pleasure?
Can I believe the magic of your sighs?
Will you still love me tomorrow?
“I’m not saying to go away. I just want to be sure that he…” She patted Cal’s chest.
“That the man I love… the person I married…would be around.” She left her hand resting on his face as his tears streamed down through her fingers.
Cal stood up and spoke,
“I…I… I don’t want to hurt you. I promised it wouldn’t happen and now it has.” He walked to the dresser and stared at his reflection. He shook his head and began to disrobe. Before Janey had a chance to continue, he had grabbed a towel off the dresser and was wiping the makeup from his face.
“It was never a good idea, Janey. I am so sorry.”
“No, Cal. It was a poorly planned idea.” She stood up and walked over to him. She touched his face once again.
“I’m not afraid of her, Cal. She’s you.” He went to speak and she placed her finger over his mouth.
“But you’ve known her all your life and I only just met her on your birthday in June.” Janey squeezed his shoulders from behind; her embrace was almost a threatening benign hug from a sister.
“I… I don’t want to hurt you.” He pleaded.
“You already have….hurt is built into love, Cal.” He turned around; tears still flowing off his chin.
“But I want to get past my fears. You…WE mean too much to us to stop.” She pointed once again to their reflection. Makeup and nightclothes were gone, leaving her husband standing before her; clad only in panties.
“WE are too important. Our daughter is too important. Our lives and everything and everyone are too important,” she said as she embraced him again; still tentative and sisterly. She looked yet again at their reflection. Her husband had indeed disrobed but Cal could not remove the presence of the woman whom Janey embraced.
… Tonight with words unspoken
You say that I'm the only one
But will my heart be broken
When the night (when the night)
Meets the mor- (meets the morning sun)
Adjustments would be made. Nothing would stay the same even as the importance of who they were would grow. Acceptance would change in the manner of expression even as the intensity of love grew.
Janey did not push Callie away even as Calvin retreated. She might not understand yet what it was to love a woman… to be a wife to another woman. But she wanted to remain a wife to the soul whom she married. The person.
… I'd like to know that your love
Is love I can be sure of
So tell me now, and I won't ask again
Will you still love me tomorrow?
“We should ask Lisa if she has time for a session this week, okay?” Janey handed Cal…Callie her robe.
The hows, whys, and whats of their relationship lay before them. The timing of change and such would reveal itself surely as the next day brings the dawn. And clarity would come… face to face…heart to heart… and maybe once and a while?
With words unspoken...
… So tell me now, and I won't ask again
Will you still love me tomorrow?
Will you still love me tomorrow?
Will you still love me-

Wow.
You packed quite a punch into a short space, ‘Drea. To get to that moment, only to suddenly be certain you’ve made a terrible mistake . . . and then, somehow to get past that and still go forward?
Powerful, and scary, and hopeful. Which is about as good a description of “love” as any, isn’t it?

dam, you got me sniffling. huggles, Drea!
Where's That Damn Kleenex
When I need it. Oh wait! maybe it's stuck to the inside of the car's windscreen.
Oh, 'Drea, you always manage to pack all these conflicting emotions and doubts into your stories. Heart to heart says it all. That will get them through it.
Good story
Most marriages don’t survive this kind of thing. If they do, this is probably how. Two people finding a way to get through the hurt and pain.
Good story. Thank you.

I just read this story again and that time stuck in my mind. Isn't that when all our doubts and fears rise to the surface?
Coming Out
Only gets harder the longer you leave it. "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" is a question that has to be answered. This story gives a hopeful answer. Janie and Callie will overcome that question.
