I’m Haunted by Columbine’s Story “An Awakening”

My spouse has been trying to get me to tour the St. Paul Cathedral. I’ve resisted. Fifty years ago, in my twenties, I lived for a year in an eight-plex -- two hundred yards from the Cathedral and never once set foot in it.

I was raised Catholic and seriously considered becoming a monk. I spent a week in an abbey. The older I got, the less I wanted to have anything to do with Catholicism, or any other traditional church.

The St. Paul Cathedral makes me nauseous.

Gov Abbott Exec Order

Erin, ladies remove this if it's out of line for this channel.
Abbott passed the same exec orders Gov Stitt did years ago.

Thus I reached out to equalitytexas.org and explained how I worked past Gov Stitt's exec order when he had done the exact same thing. Received a response thanking me and inviting me to join. I'm not going to but it was a kind of them to offer.

Golden Age Masks Excerpt

An excerpt from The Modern Age, an unfinished novel set in the Thirties of the Masks universe:

"Wow," whispered Dutch, looking over the edge of the roof at the street far below. He glanced back at the Night Master, who was preparing to throw a grapple wrapped in rags across the gap between the buildings. "You've done this before?"

"Many times," the Night Master replied, as he sent the padded hook whistling through the air. It caught on a vent pipe projecting from the roof of the penthouse of the lower, neighboring building.

Week off

Hey there, everyone.

I've got a busy week ahead and probably won't have much if any time to write or post, and since my birthday is on Thursday and the long weekend is ahead as well, I'm going to just take the week off and try to reconnect with my muse and recharge my batteries. I will return to my usual posting/writing schedule after Labour Day.

Stats

many of you may know of my love for statistics, being a maths graduate and all. Earlier today I ran the statistics for my stories again (a fairly time-consuming process but usually done in well under half an hour). What's interesting is comparing them to the last time I did the stats, which was May 13 2023.

In that time (17 months and 13 days) I've only posted 12 additional chapters (amusingly, I have sixteen in my backlog right now*) increasing from 258 to 270. However, on my existing chapters:

Is That All There Is

Do the tragedies never stop?

Based on scientific principles -- as explained by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. -- my transgender life has been caused by chemicals in water.

His arguments have been so compelling that I’ve stopped drinking water.

Now, before you start warning me about the consequences of anti-aqua, please let me tell you -- I’d rather die of dehydration than allow the evil and vast water conglomerate to suck out my morality through gender disruption.

I could “bearly” stand the news that RFK has suspended his presidential campaign.

Chemo: Day 4

So, I've decided to name this pump I have to haul around twice a month Kuato, cause it's joined to me at the hip. (Bonus points if you get the reference.) So, the most serious side effect I've had so far is my blood pressure, which had gotten normal was quite elevated today. Almost to the point where they didn't want to treat. My Oncologist wants to me to schedule with my Primary care to have my Lisinopril I take daily doubled from 5mg to 10mg.

NOT A SUICIDE NOTE

I have been told by non family members that I am super strong and it is amazing that I survived, even excelled at times. My own family has "Ghosted" me, and despite that I fire back at them that after due consideration they were not "worth" it. Nearing the end of my life at times I wish that I had done other things with it. To my children: I'd like my seed back. They have misused it.

It often wonder how the population of BCTS got so strong and how I came to be even grudgingly accepted here. I know that what I write is pure excrement...I'm trying as hard as I can.

high stress day

So today was a high stress day. First, we had to get up early so we could take my aunt shopping, and then Sharon called, and asked us to help her get her laundry done as her machine is broken,

We got through that, despite the heat, then Sharon wanted to go to a restaurant on the other side of town, so we made our way there, only for Sharon to cause an issue with our server. so we left without getting food. So back across town to get her and Sam some food, drop them off at home, and finally head home ourselves.

I am probably going to have to see my doctor

As if packing wasn't stressful enough, I think I am going to have to make time for a doctor's visit because of my right foot. I found out today I can't handle being in any kind of shoe that doesn't have some support, so my open toed sandals are a no.

Sighs . . .

Cereal

I’m beginning to think that I’m evil.

I have finally written a cereal on purpose and not just ad hoc. Not that the readers will be able to tell the difference.

Of course it’s a “Bru” cereal which is why I’m not calling it a serial.

Some will think it will snap, crackle and pop while others will think it’s just soggy. Most who read will find themselves in the shoes of Oliver Twist in the orphanage.

“Conform!” really was a pilot. Depending on the response I’d post the rest (I’m not saying whether the criteria was “below” or “above” a certain limit).

Story recomendation from the archives of Tiffany Shar

As I mentioned in my last post Thank you for a blast from the past to Tiffany Shar I am currently re-reading some of the stories posted many “turnings of the seasons” back. Some of these I not read in over a decade. On re-reading them now, I remember having read them in the past. This fact is also confirmed by the fact many of parts have a Kudos registered to my user ID.

Voice Training

For those who seek to sound like the gender they present. It's possible to train one's voice to be different from the voice they were born with and grew up with. Think of singers. Opera singers are some of the best when one thinks of the sounds we humans emit. Even those who do Country or Classical songs train so their records, or now days DVDs sell. Think of those who do voice for animated characters. The Simpsons, it was a female who did Bart. She does several other voice overs also.

Tiffany Shar's Bears Know Best

I cleaned up Tiffany Shar's Bear's Know Best story from all of those little OSC squares from 2010-2012 when BCTS was NOT as stable as it is now. Also, I removed the lulu.com links and placed the amazon store page address there for you to purchase from as well. The author will have to change the included text for ea chapter to reflect this as well.

Thank you for a blast from the past to Tiffany Shar

Thanks to a recent story chapter post by Tiffany Shar I started re-reading her previous contributions and got a serious blast from the past! After re-reading Suddenly Royal from a contest in 2020 in order to establish context for the sequel that Tiffany just recently started to post here on BigCloset TopShelf.

For the Authors

I do not know how many on here are like me. I am here to read, and say very little. I do not think I have anything worth saying. I have stories in my head, but I would never be able to put them on paper the way some of these phenomenal authors do.
My question for the authors. Other than the kudos or buying the books from Amazon, what is there that a reader can do to encourage you. I am thinking especially of times when an author is struggling to think through what to write or how to continue a story. How can I as a reader be an encouragement to the authors.

Issues With Kindle Charges.

In the last few weeks I've gotten warnings from Amazon Kindle about "Problems with my payment". I've checked my bank balance and there should be no issue. No certain author. It makes me feel reluctant to use Kindle. In the past, Kindle has been my GO TO resource.

This reminds me of a REM hit, "It's the end of the world as we know it".

Chemo: Day 3

So, here we are at Chemo Day 3. First the good news. Doctor is VERY pleased with my numbers. He's going to schedule me a PET scan after my next infusion (Chemo Day 4) instead of waiting for six months. Fingers crossed that news will be good! So far cold sensitivity has been my greatest side effect, if you don't count all the time of coming and going and hauling around the slow dose pump from now until Thursday.

Homeward bound

Well we are back in Berlin ahead of our flight back to Blighty tomorrow it’s been warm today travelling down from Hamburg, it was 30c when we got to the capital! And it’s been very humid too so not the most comfortable of days.

We have some more time in Berlin tomorrow before a tea time departure back to Bristol.

What have we done since Sunday? Well on Monday we spent best part of 7 hours in the model railway before finishing the day with a couple of hours in the nearby Maritime Museum. A warm day but we were in air conditioned luxury for most of it.

problems with my walk

So I have been having more issues with my walk.

Now, I have always walked weird, because my knees are slightly pointing away from each other, making me walk like I was moseying into town after a week of riding a fat horse. But lately, it seems like it has gotten worse, as my right foot is not only pointing further away from straight, I am now walking on the side of my foot.

The other leg is a little straighter, but it's also the one with more issues with arthritis, which causes problems on that side as well.

Predicting World Events

On the BCTS site and the larger Internet, there are citizens from literally every part of the world. Despite my own cautious belief in a higher order of things, human activity, earthquakes, volcanoes, tornadoes, hurricanes and other chilling events, I'll admit to being quite tense and sleepless at times.

Then there are the nutty conspiracy theorists that at times make life all the harder.

Story fragment

Just came up with this little snippet of a story and wanted to share.

The Encounter
My guest had gone to clean up, so I went to the kitchen to make us some food, but before I could finish, I heard a scream coming from the bathroom.

I walked over to it, and when there was another scream, I tried the door.

Fortunately, my guest had not locked it, so I went in to find her cowering in a corner, naked, and pointing at the shower.

Apologies are in order.

The last time I posted, I think I might have rubbed some people the wrong way with what I said. At that point in time I hadn’t really been thinking about the whole picture with what I had said.

Since that last post I’ve done some heavy soul searching. And I’ve come to the conclusion that I need to apologize for how I came across in my last post.

I feel like I may have rushed that post into existence.

The character lineup of Arctic Fox 3: Pursuit of the Dream

So a little while ago, I decided to do some AI work on the characters of The Arctic Fox. Specifically, Arctic Fox 3, but of course, some of the characters are in the other books as well. Having pictures of the characters allows me to keep a picture of the in my mind so any descriptions of them are consistent.

Since I had the pictures available, I decided to put them in a blog, so if anyone wants a reference to what the people look like when you’re reading the stories, you have it.

Re-charging the grey matter

Or what Maddy did next

So for the last few days we have been based in Hamburg, I say based, so far we’ve not seen much of the place beyond the Hauptbahnhof! Instead we’ve been out and about exploring.

Thursday we went to Lueneberg @ an hour to the south. It was hot and sunny as we explored the old salt town founded in the 11th century and home to the oldest ‘potions’ shop in the world which dates from the 16th century.

Author responses to comments and speculation

How do you — as an author, reader, or both — feel about authors responding to comments? It’s something I’m struggling with quite a bit. And I don’t mean just saying, “Thanks for the nice comment!” when someone says something kind, I mean when they’re theorising about what the secrets behind motivations are, what someone’s (or even the story’s) real purpose is, ‘whodunnit?” etc.

Technical help needed

Sorry to make my first blog post a request for help but I'm a bit lost.

I've posted two chapters for a story so far, and I can't seem to edit them or link them together.
I also don't have a way to get to them quickly, I have to go to Free Stories and scroll down the page, which I don't think is supposed to happen.

Any have an idea what I'm doing wrong?

Thank you!

Gone

But not forgotten

So on Monday we set off on our long planned trip to Berlin and Hamburg, both, as it happens, destinations that Dad loved to visit. We’ve had time in the capital and I write this from our ICE train taking us to Hamburg.

It’s been a bittersweet time, we went to Potsdam yesterday which I first visited with Dad in @ 2007 and going around Berlin I was remembering visits with both my parents in the intervening years, happy memories at least.

In Search Of... Christmas Story Help?!

So, I'm doing something that I've never done before. I'm putting out an S.O.S. You see, once, long ago, back when I haunted all of the Harvest Moon Roleplay Forums that seemed to everywhere, and the many slice of life Roleplay Forums that were always popular, I was known for my moving, emotionally backed Christmas stories. And when I started writing on D.A (Devient Art) I would go all for my yearly Christmas story, I would commission an artist for the cover-art and pull out of the stops.

Horror In Southport

I was shocked to read of the attacks in Southport, UK. Three innocent lives taken, with eight more children and adults injured at a dance class celebrating the music of Taylor Swift. And the attacker's identity is being concealed because he is only 17! That's old enough to be tried as an adult here in the US! Name and shame!

I am sort of flattered: I stumbled onto a Forced Fem story on You tube that is almost word for word my "Autobiography", and "You Did What To Me".

I messaged them but do not intend to ask You tube to take it down.

Some of you may be offended if their work is stolen like this.

I am not sure what to do.

home page story teasers question

Since the last site mini-crash, has anyone noticed or questioned why the TEASERS on the home page repeats the newest 5-6 selections?

This is a minor issue but if it's a simple fix, it'd be much appreciated.

I'll admit I don't read every story and use the teasers to weed out stories that aren't in the themes I have little interest.

Thank you

Where Are The Aliens ???

Today, sitting in a group of (Sunday) people numbering about 50 people, both male and female, and seeing the obvious genetic variations, it came to me. We Are The Aliens !!! Said group of people have made a lot of money pushing Genetic testing to the tune of around $150 per person. Other people, purportedly expert scientists, say they have spent years digging through ancient ruins.

It seems obvious to me that "we" are the Aliens. Pardon my repetition.

I feel a story coming on.

How Safe Will We Be?

Depending on what will happen in the USA in the next 120 days, how safe will those of our ilk be here in America. I briefly looked into fleeing to Israel, but that is not practical for me, and perhaps not safe. I was considering Tel Aviv. I was just looking at going to western or central Canada, but that just seems impractical to me.

So, perhaps it is best to just say where I am and hope for the best.

"I Don't Like You" (2 chapters remain)
"Circle in the Sand" (3 chapters remain, plus a COMPLETE rewrite of the current one posted)
"When You Close Your Eyes (2 chapters remain)
