Let's take the time to appreciate Marilyn. A fantastic writer and someone I hope I can call a friend.

A very happy birthday indeed!

In the year or so that I've been reading Maeryn's stories, I've been engaged by her wit, dazzled by her humor, and reduced to a puddle by the raw emotions she can pull out writing that is both extraordinary and understated. So many amazing stories! Buyer's Remorse, which brought sensitivity and realism to, of all things, a magical transformation story. Seven Dresses, telling the story of a transgirl's journey through the lens of dresses she wore at seven seminal (ovial?) moments. The Chosen -- wonderful fanfic involving transformation and a new teenage girl who kicks vampire ass. Suicide Survivor, a highly original tale where a trans girl and a transwoman, each facing death, get the chance for one life together. She contributed six magnificent short stories to last year's NYE contest, including the witty and hysterical Second Star to the Right and my personal favorite, the touching and poignant story of friendship, trust, and sacrifice, Yes, Ma'am. Lately I've been coming back to a line from that story again and again: "Sometimes, hope is a choice. Something you take on faith."

So, happy birthday, Maeryn, to you and to Gillian, your fair "girl inside." Thank you for all you've written, and for all that you are -- a blessing to this entire, fragile, precious community!
