Chapter 95

Finals week: The culmination of the last eight months of study and boredom, dissections and derivations.

For the seniors, it was the last week of an entire lifetime. Eveything they had ever known would be finished. Some would go to college, some would get a job, but all of them would live on.

Bobbie sat in the first of her final exams. Questions about the two party system and the Constitution led to an essay question on the legality of campaign reform laws. She wanted to laugh out loud as she finished her eighth paragraph and handed in her test.

I take a deep breath as I enter the vast hospital and quickly find my way to the clean private room, briefly stopping when I see the middle-aged man stood outside.

"Hi Mark!" I say to the smartly-dressed man, who greets me with a handshake and a smile.

"Hello Stuart!" The man warmly replies. "Jamie's currently being seen by her nurse, but she should done any minute."

"That's why you're out here instead of in there, then?" I chuckle.

Anyone watching would have been very confused. I must have changed about three times and was clearly becoming very agitated, and yet an observer might well have been completely nonplussed as to why.

When I arrived at the rehearsal studio Eoin was already there chatting amiably with Kirk and a bunch of the USC kids. I really didn't know much about Kirk or Eoin's history, and I presume Katherine never gave it any thought, but judging by their easy banter, I guessed they knew each other from way back.... probably from their musical theater days back east. They seemed to be regaling the USC students with war stories, and it was immediately apparent that this group was quickly fusing into a team.
