Bishop slices through the water with an ease she finds more than a little disturbing. Her new body moves far too well through the warm, chlorinated wetness of the hotel pool. Lap after lap, all alone in her black one-piece from the pricey ladies shop in the lobby, her world growing smaller and smaller with each passing moment until it feels like she’s the only person in the universe. It’s just her and the warmth and the sounds muted by the water in her ears, and it feels so good to be alone in the here and now. Without company. Without context.

Without the world trying to label her and put her in what it thinks is her place.

CHAPTER 72
Steph was intrigued by Simon’s proposal.

“I know he’s a good bloke, but with all this ‘excellence’ towards us abominations, is he perhaps trying to snare us for his sky pixie? Find some really top-class sinners to save?”

I turned and watched them leave. The woman was holding his hand like he was a child. That was weird, because while he had been in school the one thing that he had always objected to was being treated as a child. Something else had changed besides that, he was much more outgoing, and happy. Much different from the person I had met four and half years ago.

I looked up to see Tad with an evil grin on his face. What on earth was he doing here. He looked over at Jim.

“Is this your new boy friend, girly-boy?”

It had been a couple of weeks since Bob had asked all of us to keep an eye on Dave, and I hadn't seen him since except in passing. The first weekend he was working, and then last weekend he said he had to go talk to one of his old professors. I guess that's good, it means that he spent all of that time as Dave, not Sissy.
