Roger was taken from the courtroom, and he had a look of hatred on his face as he passed Renée. Naomi took him to the girls side of the detention center to wait for the deputies that would take him to Pine Meadows. Dressed as he was, the boys side would not have been a good idea. As Naomi turned Roger over to the matron, she was told she had a phone call.

CHAPTER 62
It was all too much. That was the short form, but the longer story was far worse. Kirst was there, my statement was taken, and all the time I felt like a piece of rubbish chucked out on the roadside. Who was I bloody kidding? I had splashed around in the happy little pond of my friends’ approval, and now I was out in the real world, and it had teeth.

I come out of what was a dead drug induced sleep. You know that sleep where you just know you were out of it entirely. That’s a bit unsettling or it’s always been that way for me and I’m floaty in that body stoned kind of way.

I hear C.C.R.’s Midnight Special dropping away to the sounds of the base radio stations chatter. I’m hurting and thankfully I know where I am and I’m not freaking out. I close my eyes again not sleeping but I don’t know, if you’re military you’ll get this.

CHAPTER 17
“Maman…”

“Yes, my sweet?”

“There is...at school, there is a boy…”

“Ah. I had hoped…but, alas, that day had to come. Does he know?”

“About my state? No, I think not”

“No, silly girl, does he know that you are looking at him?”

Mostly just a filler today.

I awoke this morning, and I felt very good. I became concerned that whoever had been playing with my emotions was at it again. Grandma said no, the amulet was working well. By that time, my good mood was ruined. I have to check with my grandmother to see if I’m happy?

Someone is seriously going to pay.

I walked into the kitchen, and I was almost immediately pounced on by my mother. As she did her best to smother me in a hug, my bad mood disappeared.
