Moira McDougal
for my sister Ronnie
To the Tune of Eleanor Rigby
Moira McDougal looks at her Sisters
and wonders if she'll ever be.
"What about me?
Stares in the mirror, missing the sad little
girl who she'd never become;
At least not at home.
All the dreams and wishes;
When will they all come true?
Nothing more than this is…
It's up to me and you.
Mr. McDougal, yelling at Martin
along with a harsh hateful stare.
Why didn't he care?
Missing the picture, despising the sweet
lovely daughter he already had;
So terribly sad.
Her yearnings and her dreams
Where do they all come from?
From whence her heart, it seems
The girl she should become.
Ah, look at all of those rejected
Treasures they all should have protected
Martin McDougal died soon thereafter;
replaced by the girl meant to be
Finally free.
Moira McDougal, valued by Sisters and
Brothers from far and from near;
Treasured so dear.
All the dreams and wishes.
When will they all come true?
Nothing more than this is…
It's up to me and you.

Thank you, Andrea
Food for thought. I wonder if other songs will fire the muse? My story "She's not you' was inspired by a Garth Brooks song.
Take care,
Susie
It Is Sad When
Your family can not accept the true you. At least, we can be ourselves, here.

ALISON 'a wonderful tune to which you have brought your beautiful words,as always.Acceptance is a word that some people
will never come to terms with-----if it doesn't suit their values.May the Lord be your Shepherd and thank you.Alison

very moving
And every bit as beautiful as McCartney's original...
Maybe we need to redo the entire Beatles song book, starting with I WANNA PAINT YOUR NAILS, through the psychedelic years ("Do what you like, like falling off a bike- see how they fly! I am the Stanman, they are the Stanmen; I am the Aardvark- Goo Goo Ga Joob!") and all the way to LET IT B-CUP ......... Okay, maybe not. Mine would tend to just be goofy, whereas yours actually say something...

What can I say...
...you always seem to speak for so many with so few words.
Lil' sister Kelly
P.S. At least we can be ourselves here. ;)
Have I mentioned...
...that "Eleanor Rigby" is one of my three favorite Beatles songs? I can't remember.
In any case, it is, and this is a wonderful song, both on it's own, and in the tribute to the other song.
*hugs*! and love. ^__^

Thanks for sharing that
- your new version fits quite well!
43 years after they first sung Eleanor Rigby, and still today it has the same incredible magic, the totally different, theme and sound to it. I remember being struck at the time by how different this was from every kind of popular song that had gone before - nearly all were crooners moaning about their girlfriends no longer loving them and oh boo hoo, and they were frankly BORING. Then the Fab Four appeared on the scene and addressed themes that nobody before had the imagination, the insight, or the courage to address, in popular songs, before.
No wonder even after 43 years we can listen to them and be amazed.
I remember one of the Pink Floyd earlier songs, Arnold Lane, which was about a cross dresser who collected clothing from washing lines... We dont seem to have so many songs for or about TVs now though, its nearly all Rapp and violent pieces with hard beats and low on melody. This seems odd as there are more of us than before. This Rapp stuff - they often dont even sing them, just talk or shout. I must be getting old as I dont find this really proper music even, but I guess it just reflects the violence of our post-civilized apocalyptic societies as they crash.
