This story takes place in the world described in The Cynthia Chronicles. It is now twelve years since the conclusion of Cynthia and the High School Years — Part 2. Bobbie (Schmedlap) Anderson is playing in the most important golf tournament in her young life. Since turning pro after her graduation from college, she set the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tour on fire, winning just about everything in sight. Now she is playing in both the LPGA and PGA, and continuing to win. As you read, you will find out how she arrived at where she is. She has done it with the support of her husband and high school sweetheart, Andy Anderson, who is a pretty good golfer, too. She is now locked in a head to head battle with a male chauvinist golfer who has made it known that the idea of a woman golfer on the PGA is repugnant, especially in this particular tournament. It doesn’t help that Bobbie has defeated him in the past. Some of you may recognize what tournament they are playing in right away. It won’t be kept from you for very long, if you don’t know.

For the last few months, Bobbie has been receiving threatening notes, vowing to expose her as a witch. If it was done, it would destroy her and Andy’s careers as professional golfers. It would also cause serious damage to the magic world, and would probably lead to the destruction of professional sports, in general. Who could be doing this, and why? What can Cindy, Bobbie, The Wizard, and the rest of their friends, magical and non-magical do to prevent this disaster?

The bulk of this story takes place over one day. There are eighteen chapters (holes), plus the Nineteenth Hole. I then added four more chapters to follow what happened to the antagonists over the following years. Those last four chapters might become part of a future story.

Sunday, March 3, 1872

Trisha pulled her nightgown off over her head and tossed it onto the bed before quickly stepping into her drawers. Church services began in about 90 minutes, and she wanted to get there early, to bask in the praise for the dance the night before. As she reached for her camisole, she looked over to see how Kaitlin was doing.

"Trisha," Kaitlin said loudly, pointing, "what the devil is that on your chest?"

Thirty days goes really fast when you're having fun. I guess with school and everything, these four weeks just flew by. Tomorrow we had to be in court again for mother's sentencing. We don't have to be there, but I want to be, because, well, she is my mother. Maybe she can get help where she is going, if she wants it. But mother went to the state hospital to have a psychiatric evaluation. I wonder what the doctor is going to say. Well, we will find out tomorrow.

In Parts One and Two, Barb capitalizes on her son Kyle’s desire for a moped (a motor scooter) to propose a deal: If he wears girls’ clothes for a month, then he can get one. He makes the deal on the understanding that he can choose the clothes. He figures he will be able to find a masculine look, just as long as he wears sweatshirts bulky enough to hide the bras his mother adds to the deal. Kyle sees an easy win; his mother hopes that somehow the knowledge that he is wearing girls’ clothes will tame her reckless son.

Chapter 8

Sasha dresses for his first day as a girl as he begins bonding sister-to-sister with Sonia and girl-to-girl with their friends.

In Part One, Barb caught Kyle masturbating to a lingerie advertisement. Out of embarrassment, he began to rant against girls’ clothing, with the implication that it was so boyish, so unisex, that there was no way he could have been aroused by it. Barb is disturbed by his sexist language and arguments, and has difficulty figuring out how a mother who had once dressed her son in panties and tights could have produced such a male chauvinist. She fears for his life, so reckless has the fourteen-year-old become.

Marty found Tammy stretched out on the girl’s room floor. Being the concerned and loving partner she was, Marty jammed Tammy in the ribs several times with the toe of her shoe before announcing to the gathered crowd that yes…indeed…she was alive.

The sun settles beyond the horizon. The forest is quiet except for the sound of some insects doing their evening calls. There is no sound of birds in the air, just some butterflies fluttering among the trees. The forest air is still and dark. In a clearing there is a cottage with its light on. A butterfly decides to take a rest on the window sill. Another butterfly rests on a log near a corner of the cottage. Out in front of the cottage are several horses tied to a wood post railing.
