On the Flip Side, Chapter 6

Chapter 6

"You know your father didn't mean it," my stepmother said as I sat on the swing on their porch.

"He meant every word, Marie!" I said.

"You have to see things from his perspective, Luke," she said. "You don't know how embarrassed he was when he saw you on CNN. His friends let him have it really hard."

"No harder than me," I said. "Does he think I like to be called names? Does he think I like being picked on? Does he think I like being beat up?"

Skipper! Chapter 11

Skipper! by Beverly Taff

This chapter describes how Beverly argues with Judge Elizabeth about the inhumanity in the family courts and later gives Herself, Margaret and Sian the sweet delight of putting Judge Elizabeth on the receiving end of a typical Court-room style inquisition.

Finally Finding Myself Part 2 (Updated)

Finally Finding Myself Chapter 2

Jamie held his breath and hoped the girl outside the stall would go away. "Do you need help?" The last thing Jamie needed was more people coming in here and catching him in the girl's room. Jamie squeaked out "I'm OK."

"You don't sound OK. My name's Karen. I'm here for you if you need someone to pour your heart out to."

Quote in a story that makes me laugh!

As I sat and read Susan Grafton's excellent A is for Alibi, I came across this gem:

"The only cleavage I got left, I sit on,"

I was mid sip on a cup of coffee as I read ( I shouldn't do that!) and I nearly covered the sofa with cofee.

Anyone else have any wonderful quotes they can remember like that?

Hugs

Sue

What About Love?

I didn’t feel good about what I’d done. Strike that. I felt absolutely awful about what I’d done, what Jimmy and coach Morrison had encouraged me to do even when I knew in my soul it was wrong. I‘d damn near killed that poor girl. Her punctured lung and compound fracture were entirely the result of my insanely hard hit, a hit I knew I should have pulled because I saw the kick go clean…

On the Flip Side, Chapter 5

Chapter 5

"Good, you guys are here," Melanie Piper said when Jessi Mears and I arrived for our shift during the "Santa's Toy Give-away" our sorority was sponsoring for underprivileged children in our community.

The pledges were to be "Santa's helpers," helping Santa Claus pass our gifts to children. It sounded like a worthwhile cause on a Saturday morning after ballet class.

"Jessi, you'll be getting Amber's uniform as soon as they're done," Melanie said. "Lucas, you're getting Caroline's."

Okay, Maggie would want me to be honest here and tell you I came up with this story concept. But since the writing started happening we have sent so many emails back and forth I think we are responsible for slowing down the internet by at least 1%. So if your connection is slowing down - it's all Maggie's fault. We are having an absolute ball writing this.

So I've taken the February challenge and tried something with it...

The something is this...

I'm trying to be very spare with the storytelling, sketchy even, and allowing, even demanding the music to supply the emotional content. I'm not entirely happy with the results and anyone who has an idea how I could address my artistic shortcomings re this endeavour is welcome to say their piece.

Thanks.

The Champions

Another musical interlude.....

Halftime was over and we were down by 10. I gave a quick shout out to Karla who relayed it to Geoff. I had a hard time getting the guys to wait, but when they heard the opening strains of the song I’d asked for, they changed somehow. A batch of somewhat dispirited football players turned into a team of… Geee, I don’t know, but definitely something predatory and very nasty. They were stomping in unison and charged onto the field as the bleachers shook beneath the crowd.

Duty, Honor, Country, Family - Part 16

“Gabrielle-san, your plan on the surface sounds like a solid one.”

“Thank you, Inspector. But?”

“It is still dangerous and fraught with many risks. I and the Yokohama police can not give you any assistance.”

Gabrielle had expected this statement to come from Inspector Yoshida’s mouth. “Inspector, I wasn’t here to ask for your help, just to advise you of what I planned on doing.”

Things Greta Says

If you like the hilarity of the average conversation in Cathy's household in "Bike", you'll probably like this...

Greta is the four year old daughter of UK satirical musician / comedian Mitch Benn and his wife Clara. Like most four year olds, she often produces unintentionally hilarious comments - but whereas in most families these are quickly forgotten, in their household one of the parents will often tweet it for posterity (editing where necessary to fit within the 140 character limit).

Part 2 of 10 - A Youth and a Smith

To subvert your will to vengeance requires you to throw yourself to something with no understanding of mercy. So it will use you, take from you your very being, in the pursuit of its end. And if victory is achieved, then vengeance will toss you aside, unneeded and forgotten.

After there is something to be something avenged. Then there needs to be someone who seeks it and someone to be the tool of that vengeance

Chapter 03

"Andrew, there you are. Why did you run off like that?" Sorcerer Gabriel rushes up gasping for breath even as he finally reaches the location where Andrew, for no apparent reason, has stopped.

"I wanted to find a mirror so I might let her see me."

"Well, there’s one right there, go ahead if you are able. I doubt it, however, as the energy required for such a link will need time to replenish before you may attempt it again."

"I have already done it, Sorcerer Gabriel. She said she thinks I’m handsome and then I lost control again."

What I learned

I was taught family doesn't matter,
I always thought family was a burden.
I was taught that parents will favor one child over another,
I always thought I wasn’t relevant.
I was taught that life wasn’t important,
I always thought my life wasn’t important.
I was taught … wrong,
I have learned that I am important, relevant and family is not a burden.

Nothing Else Matters.

Well, somebody mentioned writing a story centered a round a song. This one has always spoken powerfully to me.

We had been together since Junior High, but I was still scared. Make that terrified. It was the first time ever that any of my classmates would ever see me as I truly am, as I had always wanted to be. I knew I had the love of a good man, one who had wanted to have me on his arm for the Junior prom. And he’d made it clear he’d be crushed if I didn’t come this time and I loved him so much and… anyway, I said yes when he asked me.

Chapter I - Michael.

I had gotten up late this Saturday morning, and my mother was already at work. I went in the bathroom and took a shower. I shampooed my hair twice and conditioned it twice. After it was dry, I went in my room, and got out a nice powder blue bra and panty set, my powder blue half slip and dress, got a pair of nylons and my black leather slingbacks. I put on my lingerie, and sat down to do my makeup. As I was working on my eyes, the memory of how I got this far came back to me.

If you ever wonder what its doing over in London, want to check the weather, do they really get snow? watch the double decker busses cross the bridge, tour boats on the Thames, maybe catch the bridge up? Or just to see the tide height against the bridge.
This is one of the better real time live cams:

Enjoy, hey, maybe we could get Angharad and friends to walk across the bridge to the sidewalk on the other side of the road this side of the near tower, jump up and down and wave frantically at the camera at a preset time and date? :-)

Sex-Change Medical Costs Are Tax-Deductible, U.S. Court Rules

This was on YaHoo News this Morning! Richard

Feb. 3 (Bloomberg) -- Costs incurred in sex-change operations and procedures are tax-deductible, the U.S. Tax Court ruled.

The Washington-based court ruled yesterday that hormone therapies and sex reassignment surgeries are necessary to treat gender identity disorder, a disease, in the case of a Boston- area man who became a woman named Rhiannon O’Donnabhain.

“The Court is persuaded that petitioner’s sex reassignment surgery was medically necessary,” Judge Joseph Gale wrote in a 69-page decision for the majority.
