Chapter 24 – The Council

As I watched the green light above the camera turn to red my stomach tried to rebel one more time. I didn’t want to do this. Our grief should have been a private thing, shared only with our family and the small community of our friends. Jan’s death had been hard enough without the media avalanche we were being buried under. I was about to interviewed once again when all I wanted to do was cuddle with Bea and our remaining children as we tried to comfort each other. Someone had to speak out though and I am much more accustomed to public speaking than Bea is.

CHAPTER 3 - The Plan is Exposed

Hatter snuggles close to Shade as he laid next to her. He had asked his boss for the next few days off to stay with Hatter and look after her. He loved being with her. He didn’t care that she was a little crazy or the fact that she could be very vindictive when she went after someone.

Chapter 23 – Dragons

“Dragons,” Granger spat out when Stone and Rayla approached him after his storytelling session. “There are no dragons in the Green valley.”

“Anywhere else?” Stone prodded.

I don’t give a stuff what folk think about me. I’ve heard it all, butch, dyke, tranny, sissy, queer, faggot, weirdo, paedo and a lot more names I can’t be bothered to recall, many of which are mutually exclusive. I’ve never tried to defend myself against it because it’s pointless. You can’t reason with a bigot.

Equipment malfunction has been with mankind since the invention of the wheel. Possibly before with the club, spear, bow and arrows. As science progresses and equipment is in-bedded deeper and deeper into our lives, the one constant is at some point failure will occur. Let's pray the whole tie rod steering mechanism doesn't fall out from under your vehicle while you're traveling down the road. Mine did and it wasn't a story of fiction. Obviously I survived.
This is a tale of one of those equipment failures and it is a story of fiction.

Ash "the Flash" Johnson was an average kid. Went to school, played football, wanted to get into a career writing webcomics and teaching history eventually. The crack of dawn on a Wednesday morning was deceptively calm for the city of Paragon. The main road leading to the Founder’s Creek police station was no different.

Maryann chose to change that.

She burst through the front doors of the station, towing two frightened men by the lasso she had bound them with. With her abrupt entrance, Mary said, “Hello, Paragon’s finest! I’ve come bearing gifts.”

The film was a surprise, in so many ways. Very American, so I missed a lot of the references when I first saw it, as well as extremely dated. I watch it now, and the assumptions it contains about race and class are shockingly clear, but that first viewing spoke directly to me. Dumbo was utterly alone, save for one friend who came from an utterly different world.
