Our picket line was a mile and half from the main camp. It took me around forty five minutes to reach the line. I was surrounded by total darkness. It seemed not a soul was around for miles. It was June 6, 1944 and to say Private John Burton was unhappy would be an understatement. Even though he had heard General Eisenhower's speech on the radio, he really wanted to be elsewhere. Not that he wasn't a red-blooded American and not that he didn't grasp the importance of the mission. It's just that he was convinced there was a German bullet with his name on it. It was a feeling he just couldn't shake. All the trouble his parents went through to raise him, scolding him into good behavior, getting onto him to make good grades. And then all the money and effort Uncle Sam went through to prepare and train him for this exact moment, everything his life was moving towards would come to a wasted end on a beach in France he'd never heard of. He just knew it. And he was mightily annoyed about it.

Being annoyed couldn't describe how John felt when not even ten feet from the landing craft onto the sands of the beach before being cut down by German machine gun fire. Talk about being angry as he fell onto the sand...

And then even more angry when he woke up in another time and place as a naked teen girl...

Everything had started off really good and then Dad started in with his snide little remarks in the limo it was really cool seeing her fire right back at him. I was so proud of her for pretty much breaking her entire pay check to pay for all of the things tonight without dipping into anything else.

We ended up picking up some of my dad’s cronies Leon Panichi and his wife and their twin girls, Geoffrey Scanta and his mid life crisis. Then there was Aubrey Zane and his wife Debora, Deb was still someone I knew a little older than Geoff's mid life crisis but only a little. It must be a "thing" really only Mrs. Panichi and April were over thirty, but not over thirty five.

I knew the girls from the early days at the club and they went to a different school than I ended up going to and Scantha’s mid life crisis Anna was likely only around twenty if that I was soon getting barraged by questions and they had said they had spent the summer in Italy and started showing off just how good their Italian was.

The other’s joined in and I was fending off questions about me and Hunter and football and school and…Yeah…I fell for it.

The little look on Debora’s face as Hunter excused herself and left looking for the bathroom and the cutting little remarks. I see there’s these coy and bitchy little smirks between her and the twins.

She squeezed Mr. Cuddles the bear tightly, putting her mouth against his soft fuzzy body and let out a low squeal. She wanted to scream it from the highest mountain. She had been kissed! The only people to kiss her so far had been relatives. Her parents had sent them to bed shortly after the new year was rung in. Her father hadn't said anything about the kiss, but she could tell by the looks he was giving to both her and Peter, he wasn't happy. She lay there, thinking about how that kiss made her body tingle.

She heard movement from her parent's bedroom and a moment later, her father poked his head out of the curtain that was their bedroom door. He looked at her and she gave him a wave of her fingers, then his gaze swept around the room, as though he was searching for something. Or someone.

“William.” She heard her mother say. “You don't need to check up on her every ten minutes.”

I can recall exactly when my life came apart. That bitch, Lenore Schippers, was ticked off that I'd beaten her onto the girl's basketball team. Especially when the coach told her that even if she had been better at the game, she was worried about her being able to maintain her grades

OK, I can understand being upset about that. But she had to drag her father into it. Mr. Schippers was head of the local MCO office and Lenore gave him this sob story about how I had to be a mutant to have beaten her out and have a 3.8 GPA on top of it.

I thought I was embarrassed when I was told I had to be tested for all this stuff. I was wrong. Real embarrassment was when they dragged me out of gym class saying I was a boy!!

Paradise City, Orange-town, 4:22 PM

It’s after school and I’m coming out of my favorite comic shop having my chocolate milk and make my way to Galaxy dog so I can do my usual, escape from my life with food and the pages of my favorite comics. I know, super geeky but even in this day and age there’s tones of us.

Us being the overweight losers that life passes by. It’s not fair in the slightest. I’m smart, no genius but I’ve got good enough marks on stuff I’m scholarshipped to one of the best schools in the city.

I can’t transfer out because my folks would kill me. Why would I want to transfer out?

The answer to that comes from me getting hit by several milkshakes as two cars full of the elite kids throw stuff at me laughter and yells from the guys and giggles a squeals from the girls.

“You shoulda moved fat ass!”… “Freak!”…. “Geek!”…. “Loser!” Some of the guys.

“Eeeew stop being gross!”….. “You’re fucking disgusting!”….and of course they carouse “Loser!” with the jock guys.

It hurts really, I mean getting bullied and picked on hurts. Being this way hurts, you get shunned by a lot of people when you’re like me. Yeah I could diet and exercise and I’ve tried, but it’s too hard to do sometimes when you try to work out and stuff and run or bike or swim hearing the jeers from the people who bitch at me for not being just like them…It’s really hard to be motivated when you hear stuff like “Earthquake.” and “You’re crushing the frame.” and “Whale.” And honestly I’m not strong enough to work through it and work through the heartbreak.

I step on the chair and feel the rope caress my neck.
