This story began 54 years ago, when my sisters, who were 13 and 16, began dressing their 3 year old brother in girls clothes. At first, I believe they probably viewed it as harmless fun, as merely a diversion. But their brother, who had no one else to play with, loved the attention, and it grew to be a frequent event. When they came home from school, there was their little brother to dress up like a doll.

Justine and I sip our waters at the Club 32 with Jamie and Ginny. It had been one year since I had started to wear the cryx. We drink toast after toast as we recount our successes and failures this last year. "Here is to being perfect girls," I told Justine, remembering Alex and Jacob and their failures to make a cryx. "Here is to selling candy bars at gas stations in Illinois," I cheered. And Justine piped in, "And dresses in downtown Chicago." She smiles at me, and then reaches out her hand. "Let's have some fun," she says.

My first two quarters with the company went much like the day I just described. It started with a 5am wake up. I showered and carefully groomed myself. I left the house in khakis and a dress shirt by 6am. By 6:30, I was on the train in Waukegan downtown. I am off the train at 7:30. After a twenty minute walk, I am standing before the doors of Fashionable Inc. Others will crowd around us, a male face or two I recognize from orientation. We will all offer perfunctory greetings, but otherwise we are simple and too the point. At 8am the doors open, and we are up and going in.

I sat back, and enjoyed the peace and quiet for a couple of minutes. I logged onto my computer. I checked my client list. Then, I surfed through the pictures I had for the tablet in the cryx room. At 5:45am, I got up and walked to Meeting Room 2.1. We were all seated and early when Rhonda Matre, President of Associate Training walked in. I think we all did a double take. And we all took deep breaths.
