7 Years of College Down the Drain

Blog About:

Author:

We live in a society where honest and decent people are afraid to become police officers, teachers, health workers, or firemen for fear of getting caught up in a YouTube moment. I began this year, my first as a teacher, with such high hopes. I felt a strong urge to give back to my community. I wanted to inspire young minds to read and learn and gain the fruits of knowledge in the same way I was inspired.

Now, I am seriously re-thinking my career choice. I owe 55k in student loan debt and am looking at job opportunities outside of the classroom.

Why?

Patricia?

The warehouse I work out of sells excess pallets to a Hispanic gentleman. I have often helped him load. The pallets tend to get tippy as they come off the dock plate and I helped steady them. About half way through the loading process, he asked, "What's your name?" I answered, "Pat." He then asked, "Patricia?" Since it was work where I try to maintain a male persona, I corrected, "Patrick." He smiled and nodded and went back to work.

I just came across the transition of radio presenter Stephanie Hirst and it included such positive support from her friends and fans that it bears posting as a balance to all the reports of violence and rejection

We are at the time of year at my job where we can enroll or change our health plans and such. This year they are including a online questionnaire that's supposed to be from the feds. it's supposed to give someone a chance to freely and discretely list any and all disabilities so they know where to send resource's. there is also going to be a part where people can list any sexual and gender identities. it's supposed to be confidential and voluntary. I have spoken with a woman that I work with who is a lesbian. I've only told her that I'm bi.

T-man at my local Safeway.

I've suspected for some time that there was trans-person working at my local Safeway. The individual has always looked very androgynous. I guess the age to be about mid to late twenties. If this person was male, the lower age would be my guess. Even more confusing was that early on the name seemed to be Holly, but later, it became apparent that the name was Hollister, which I took to be a male name.

Wearing men's clothing

Those of you who bother to read my blog on a semi regular basis, are aware that I don't wear men's clothes at all, except at work. That doesn't mean that I don't present a masculine image on occasion, such as church and family events. (Not all my family is aware of my trans nature.)

As some of you have heard, those Trans-people are everywhere in the News and on the Streets.

What you may not have read or heard yet is, 'they' (read 'us') are now in the White House, location of much of the Untied States' political clout.

So the other day I was talking the GM of my McDonald's I am a shift manager at the McDonald's that I work in. I was pointing out that the toys that we have at this time are the most split that we have ever had. ((Skylanders//My little pet shop.)) They are the most that I have seen girls asking for the boy's toy and boy's asking for the girl's toy granted in some ways these toys are gender neutral though little pet shop is geared to girls boys little animals as well. And skylanders is for both boys and girls.

I know. It's been a VERY long time since I've logged in here. I've been reading stories as and when I can, but my internet hasn't and still isn't particularly reliable. For about a year there I couldn't get my laptop to go on the internet at all, and my phone screen is just way too small to view this site well.

How Things Work: BigCloset and DopplerPress Edition

So with the posting of a simple question there has been a lot of discussion lately about who is involved with BigCloset, and Doppler Press and how everything works with the new corporate structures.

Because of the confusion we thought we'd post a blog explaining how it all works, for the most part.

Talking of ships and the sea. Food for thought.

Just read an article about ships and their ever increasing size.

Here's the link. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-30696685

She's deemed too big for any US port, now that's food for thought. 1340 feet long 160 feet wide. Well over four football pitches long and much wider than a football pitch. Bigger by far than USS Nimitz.

Just docked in UK, next to Holland and Germany then back to China. At least the crew can get ashore from those ships, not like tankers and ore-carriers.

A Mirical That Didn't Last

100 years ago there was a Christmas peace between the Germans and British. The good news is that it happened. The bad news is the politicians and generals at the time ended it quickly:

Dealing with issues of my job and how it is affecting me personally.

I am a Co-Facilitator of a 'Vet 2 Vet' Peer Support Group at two of the VA Hospitals in the Boston area for Transgender Veterans and other LGBT Veterans that wish to join us also. I have not super active with the group for a while, because I was in school for 9 months and had to miss meeting due to classes. Then I became homeless and entered a program myself at the VA to deal with some of my own personal issues. Now I am missing the groups, because I am taking a Certification Program, offered by the state.

I Just got a new job that is to start on the 27th of this month. While was on my to a backup interview just in case something changed in the status of a job then my car died on the way. I am trying to get it towed to a repair place and have it fixed which looks like it was an alternator issue.

I am hoping my sister can help get it towed for me and pay for the repairs until I get a paycheck then buy a another car because this one is in reposession status.

My new job pays well over 60,000 a year but I need the car to last until I get the first check then get another car.

I am sure many of you are aware we are part time antique dealers specializing in silver. We had done shows for about 20 years before my prostate surgery. For the last five years we've been doing only on-line auctions; however, a few months ago we decided to rent a showcase in one of the nicer antique malls in the area. It basically is giving us a chance to sell a rather large accumulated inventory. We had aske the operators of the mall about getting a larger showcase, and a couple of weeks ago one became available. Two weeks ago Saturday we moved our inventory into the larger case.

Bradley Manning Transgender

Bradley Manning, the soldier who released classified documents to Wikileaks' trial is now in the sentencing phase. Apparently, he is using as part of his justification for acting as he did that he is transgender. The stories I've read on different sites and heard on the news seem to conflict in what he is asking for or saying. But basically, as I understand it, he is using his claim to be transgender to indicate some level of incapcity which should have a bearing on his sentence. (I am using he and not another pronoun since his claim is confusing).

It was actually confirmed February 22, but Sweetie and I haven't been telling anyone. We weren't really keeping it a secret, but we would only tell people if they asked. So we've been able to keep it quiet for a while. Which was something we thought was important. I being a post-op TG girl wasn't the issue (as very, very few here know), but the fact that we were in a same-sex relationship was. Especially in a very conservative, predominantly-catholic country like the Philippines. (Guess that's the advantage of Washington DC - people are more blasé about such things back home.) And adding this to the mix will just make us doubly... controversial... So we though keeping this quiet was important.

But that's impossible now.

A little while ago (June 5, 10:58pm eastern) I got an e-mail from Laika. From out of the blue, actually.

Her e-mail was a little funny - it didn't have a subject-title, it was also sent to four other people that I didn't know (who is DALENEK1 anyway), and the e-mail's content was just a hotlink to an ad about a raspberry diet supplement.

And a few minutes after that, my iPad started asking me to re-confirm/re-enter the passowords for my other e-mail profiles. Hmmm... that's funny. Anyway, I didn't, and nothing bad happened when I didn't re-enter the passwords... Hmmm...

I cannot therefore help but think that Laika and I were being spoofed.

A Little Princess

If anyone happens to be in the Northern California region, come and see our production of a new musical theater adaptation of Francis Hodgson Burnett's "A Little Princess" at the Sacramento Theatre Company (in Sacramento, CA... if that weren't obvious). It's a wonderful story about never giving up on your dreams, about imagination and curiosity and understanding other people even if you don't agree with their choices. On top of that, it's a beautiful production with gorgeous music.

If you need more details on how to get tickets or find the theater, PM me.
